Cardinals/Astros NLCS Thread

Recommended Posts

I was thinking the difference in the series was the Astros have no offense and the Cards do.

They had huge opportunities blown in the 3rd and 4th innings, that could've at least resulted in a tie at the end of regulation. The fact is, both teams had opportunites but the Cards capitalized on them and the Stros didn't.

Oh well, tomorrow's do or die for Houston.

Some of the games being on FX in this series and my intense hate of the Angels almost makes it impossible to watch this series. Here in the LA area, you wouldn't even know this series is taking place.

One interesting aspect here is the idea that Houston's pitching is so much better than STL. If I'm not mistaken weren't the Cardinals #1 in the NL in pitching this year?

I made my thoughts on the Astros known after the 18 inning affair the other day. I hope the Cardinals sweep.

Pretty good win by the Cards tonight. Carpenter pitched well and some usual late drama by Izzy. The only problem I saw was that Houston's lead off men kept getting on base. Sooner or later that may hurt you.

I don't know if tomorrow is do or die for the Astros yet.

Number two. The Astros were first.

The excuse being given for the Astros' loss this morning in the media here is Andy Pettitte took a line drive to the knee during batting practice yesterday that was swollen and bruised, thus causing him problems with his delivery last night.

I knew there'd be one. Couldn't just be that the Cardinals have some pretty good hitters.

Question: why did Garner send up Vizcaino to hit in the 9th last night? Their best chance of pulling the game out in that situation was a home run and they use Vizcaino?

I too question the Vizcaino move. Does he ever get hits? Why not put Bagwell up there?

And I do think tonight's do or die. The Astros have to win one on the road eventually if they want to win the series, and going home in a 2-0 hole never helps. A 1-1 tie gives them road confidence and momentum going back to Houston. Plus, if Oswalt gets tagged with a loss, the Cards are taking the games out of the hands of the big 3, which everyone pretty much agrees is the main thing the Astros have going for them.

I'm ok with Vizcaino hitting in the ninth...if there are less than two outs. With less than two outs, there's a pretty good chance Biggio would have made it to the plate and he would have a decent shot at a home run.

But with two outs, your chances are less because not only does Vizcaino have to get on base, but Biggio has to get the big hit as well. I think there's less chance of both those things happening than Bagwell smacking a home run in his only shot. But maybe I'm wrong.

Astros three outs away from tieing this series up one game a piece.

One plus for both these series, are the games have been pretty fast for playoff baseball. I'd except reguardless of the matchup, the same will be said for the World Series.

Man, one game this series the Stros will stop fucking around with guys on base and just light up the Cards. There might be only one game like that, but with all these opportunities, they will come through eventually. Tonight they did just enough to win, but still wasted addtional scoring chances. The pitching came through in a big way, and hopefully will continue to stay at a high level.

I feel Saturday's game is another must win for Houston because the Cards can steal all the momentum back with victory.

Much like Game 1, could the St. Louis Cardinals pitchers please get a lead-off man out? Bit them in the ass last night.

Game 3 should be pretty good, and I think both teams are gonna give Morris & Clemens a tough time.

Pfft. "Pre-Game". Like I wanna hear more about David Eckstein's intangibles. Just play the fucking games.

Don't you want to hear Jeannie Zylasklossaosksoak's thoughts on the upcoming contest? And then hear her recap the other game at the 7th inning stretch even though they show the score in the corner of the screen every 2 minutes and I could just switch channels anyway?

Zylasko: Polish (well, I'm assuming) for "Rupert's Knob Polisher"

My favorite was in the 8th of the Astros/Cards game, they had a "gamebreak" and showed highlights of the Angels/White Sox game that happened 24 hours ago.

On the news last night following the game, they asked Daron Sutton about The Questionable Call, and he said that it was a perfectly good call and nothing was done wrong. Well, shit, now that Daron fuckin' Sutton says so, that seals it.

The series is only 2-1 Stros...why the fuck does it sound like ESPN's Baseball Tonight posse is almost handing this thing to Houston?

Analysts have been picking Houston since this postseason started. Having a great front three is great, but A. It is not the only aspect of a club, B. the Cardinals' staff is really damned good as well, and C. historically great pitching rotations do not dominate the postseason. The Braves played Glavine, Maddux and Smoltz into one world championship. Why do we still fall for it?
