OAO 10/15 Impact Thread

This skit was just typical TNA stupidity and their infatuation with WWE bashing.  Are the people on the TNA booking committee and production team a bunch of homophobes or something? This whole list idea and overall segment was stupid anyways. TNA wants to attract the casuals very badly. Well, I don't think the casuals would really have any clue about these names and some of their connections or what TNA was trying to get across with this segment. This is just nothing more than people like Bill Banks, Jeremy Borash, Dave Sahadi, Jarrett, etc. worrying about furthering their own little personal grudges and feeding their egos.

Not really. Sure, they quickly went up the guest list and there were a few smarkish comments, but the segment accomplished what it set out to do. It was a funeral for the Dudley Boyz career, further established TNA's heels as being mutual friends, and added character to the formerly blander than bland America's Most Wanted.

Either way, I was entertained by it. It reminded me of a time when the E didn't take itself quite so seriously, when DX hadn't burned themselves out by constantly doing over-the-top segments, say early 97?

That being said, TNA does need to keep such segments to a minimum for now. Sure they used to do these things regularly with 3LK, and I can see that they definitely needed to flesh out the characters of everyone involved with the segment with AMW in particular, but that can start TNA going down a slippery slope of doing more of them when they should keep the focus in the ring.

I am eagerly awaiting Joe's debut next week, though I won't be able to see it until Monday night.

Looked like he actually botched it to me. His foot seemed to slip, and Daniels even tried to catch him as he fell.

I did notice that Daniels reached for AJ when I reached the show, but PWI says the slip was on purpose. Here's what Mike Johnson wrote:

For those who asked, the spot where AJ Styles "slipped" on the ropes on Impact while facing Christopher Daniels was a planned spot to allow Daniels to retreat from the ring.

Loved the gauntlet match. Yes, AJ's punches are on par with Lance Storm - but to me wrestling isn't about punches. If I wanted punches I'd watch more boxing.

The only thing that still doesn't grab me is Monty Brown. I really don't like this guy, and that fucking coat has to go. Yeah I get the cat reference, but c'mon - it just looks ridiculous! Are you the Alpha Male or the Godfather?

I thought that funeral segment was different and good to see TNA try some things like that once in awhile to help expand some needed character development. The tongue in cheek references to things were well done and in general it seemed to accomplish its task of explaining the AMW turn more than anything. I think some here are totally overanalyzing the segment to the point where its ridiculous but to each their own. If you didnt enjoy it, I guess thats just how it is.

Otherwise the show as a whole was not too bad. They are forced to cram so much into an hour though that it makes it hard for it to all make sense after you watch it, but it still is a fun hour to sit through. The production now is so good though on a side note, and honestly I think Spike needs to seriously consider trying TNA out on Monday nights soon. Judging by the last 3 shows and how much they try to fit in with an hour, TNA is in serious need of a second hour to either make some of the matches a tad longer and/or just get the storylines and angles over more.

There's no fucking way they planned to botch a spot. He landed on his fucking shoulder! Did he plan that too? Did they plan for the botched spot to catch Daniels off guard so that he reached for AJ when he slipped? PWI is full of shit.

I loved the funeral skit. Blew away any 'comedy' skit WWE have done in the last five or six years.

Agreed. Any time other feds can take good shots at the E is all good in my book, I just hope they don't overdo it.

...because it wouldn't make sense for Daniels to just teleport to the ramp mid Styles promo?

"Five or six years"

Edge, Christian, Foley, and Angle's stuff all owned this.

Man, for a guy who gripes about the idiocy of the boards, you don't really alleviate the problem.

Same here. WWE's comedy is either too forced or just plain unfunny.

Yep. these type of statements are ludicrous. There was also the HBK spoof on Hogan and that one skit with McMahon, Sheldon and Trish on the NFL.

BTW, the talk of AJ Styles planning a botched spot ,rather than it being truly a bothced spot is hilarious. Yeah, so the way to build heat on a heel is for the heel to make a cowardly escape after the babyface bothces a spot and looks like a clutz. Yeah right. This sounds like a Jeremy Borash or Bill Banks style spin job.

I think he was supposed to blow a spot, but honestly I think he blew it ALOT worse than he meant to. It was obviously a cue for Daniels to hightail it and they chose not to edit it out, but there was no way that AJ was suppose to be landing anything there. I mean, look at where daniels was standing. WTF was he going to do?

Man, I really don't get this.

People got AMPED for TNA's chance at the big time, we were all excited, we were mostly all behind them, rooting for them...

So why did everyone drop the fucking hammer on them? TNA has not been bad these past three weeks, but you wouldn't know that by reading the net. What do people want TNA to BE? It certainly seems like they can't win with what their doing, so what in the world could they be doing better that is under their control?

I mean...Don't you guys think you're being overly harsh for a promotion that just got national TV, just got improved production? Their TRYING to be different, and entertain us. Isn't that enough anymore?

Edit: I don't so much mean here completely, but it feels like any site I goto, I'm reading something negative. I'm curious as to why that is.

I'd agree with it being better than anything WWE has done in years.

I love Mick Foley and E&C back in the day, I still do but as funny as their segments were, them arguing about weight limits and talking about soda was just to eat up air time.

Not only was the funeral segment funny but they explained a heel turn, in the funniest way possible and yet still using a logical reason. They built up the 3D/AMW feud because of the humiliation that Team 3D were served. And they allowed guys who haven't had the chance to show personality before, being given the ball and running with it.

You're being funny but you're also getting feuds over, you'r getting a heel turn over, you're getting talent over. And all that crammed in a couple of minutes.

And it's rewatchable because it's impossible to catch all the little touches and everyone's performances in your first viewing. That's fucking Lost territory.

Personally, I think MikeSC is right when he says WWE did funnier skits with Foley/Edge/Christian and the Rock but that literally was five years ago.

And Hawk52, I think TNA is doing a great job so far since moving onto Spike. People may complain but I think part of that is just adjusting to something that isn't quite Sportz Entertainment but also isn't quite ROH/Puro style stuff. It lies somewhere in the middle.

This is the third week I've been watching impact and I can honestly say it's already more entertaining than Raw, even Smackdown. I may sound corny but the one hour timelimit really makes it total non-stop action.

I liked the funeral skit. It had a nice shoot feel to it. I also enjoyed the non politically correct aspect of it. Nicely done.

That was my first viewing of TNA. I had been anxiously waiting for TNA to air on a 'non-pay' format and forgot about it until alst weeks show. I was the biggest wcw mark and a huge ecw fan forced to watch only the wwe and miss some of my old favorites and I gotta say I was not impressed.

Now I know that they are a low budget operation and can't affored to do it teh best possible way, but the produciton values were crappy. It was hard to hear announcers and the ring volume was off. I dounno, maybe I'm to used to the mega-bucks productions of vince and co., so I'm not gonna let this upset me too much.

They have too many small guys acting big. Christoper Daniels, the Dark Angel? for real? There is a reason he never made it to the big dance. AJ Styles? I've been hearing this kid's name for years and I finally got a chance to see him, again..? where have i seen him before? was he a cruiserweight somewhere? ECW? it was nice to see Sabu vs. Rhyno even though teh match was not what i expected.

that whole funeral thing seemed totally cheesy and poor. it was retarded and boring in my opinion. now granted, i don't know who these guys are, apart from jarrett, but it was more annoying than anything and it never seemed to end.

I'm totally confused by this show's storylines and after what i saw last week, this show has nothing left to do but improve.

end grade 2 out of 5.

TNA doesn't drown out their fans. That could be the reason why the sound sounded off to you....or your tv sucks one or the other.

You work for WWE don't you? The Fallen Angel Christopher Daniels is one of the top wrestling talents in the world. He has worked for the WWE in jobber matches and landed a contract with WCW before they folded. Him and Mike Modest had a good opening match on a Nitro until Scott Stiener came out and ruined it. You know for saying you were a big WCW fan, you should reconize Aj Styles since he was getting pushed in their cruiserweight divison. At the moment you make it sound like you didn't watch all that much of WCW or ECW but a hell of a lot of WWE since your a fan of the big men.

that whole funeral thing seemed totally cheesy and poor. it was retarded and boring in my opinion. now granted, i don't know who these guys are, apart from jarrett, but it was more annoying than anything and it never seemed to end.

Its kinda hard to judge a segment when you have no idea whats going on. Espically since you don't know who the people who are who are involved in the segment and again, if you were a ECW/WCW fan how the hell do you not know who James Mitchell is? He was in both promotions.

I'm totally confused by this show's storylines and after what i saw last week, this show has nothing left to do but improve.

end grade 2 out of 5.

How the hell were you confused on what the storylines were. Everything was explained!

Monty Brown is having a match with Lance Hoyt at the ppv, thats why Hoyt came out after Brown's match. This had been explained a few times.

Sabu and Rhino are involved in a match with Abyss and Jeff Hardy at the ppv as well, this was explained too.

Jarrett and America's Most Wanted destoryed Team 3D last week, that was the entire purpose of the funeral skit, which was awesome. This was explained THROUGHOUT the show.

Chris Daniels in the gauntlet match happen because Daniels is facing Aj Styles in a 30 minute iron man match for the X divison title at the PPV. Daniels said he could beat any person of Aj's choosing, therefore we had the gauntlet match. This was explained right before the match even happen.

Bently is facing two others (Sabin and Williams) in a ultimate X match at the ppv, he faced David Young because Young is basically a glorified TNA Jobber. Williams came out and attacked Bently because...HE'S FACING HIM IN A MATCH AT THE PPV. Sabin made the traci save because he's a face.

......seriously how the hell did you miss all of that, when everything was explained during the show? I don't think you can rate the show at all since you couldn't even figure out the storylines that were explained by the annoucers over and over again.
