Of course, the Red Sox aren't turning into the Yankees.

Arroyo and Youkilis for Torii Hunter is like the Yankees? Elaborate, plz, b/c when I think of Yankees, I think of overpaying for veterans, not making good trades.

It's the idea that your team has the god-given right to acquire a big name for every single hole you have in the ballclub. No center fielder? Let's get Torii Hunter! Need a pitcher? Let's trade for Curt Schilling or Randy Johnson! Need a set-up man? B.J. Ryan! There are such things as role players that other teams settle for. I don't think it's the teams as much as the fantasy baseball mentality of the fans and sports radio.

So saying the Red Sox are turning into the Yankees is a stretch- we already went over their fanbase, and you seem to agree that its not the teams.

For someone who doesn't pay attention to theoretical trades during the offseason, why are you getting worked up over what one guy said in passing on a local sports television station?

The Mets received Tike Redman from the Pirates for cash.

I'm not getting worked up, just trying to explain why fans are beginning to view the Red Sox and the Yankees in the same light. Understand that I am one of those who has defended the Yankees' massive spending in the past, and will do the same with the Red Sox. But I think it is frustrating when fans of mid-level teams never hear about their own teams in on such deals.

4yr/$43 mil or 5yr/$50 mil? That is insane. Why would the Mets even begin to think of a 5th year on that deal? I hope that no one gets stupid enough to blame the Phillies for losing him to this deal, I won't hold my breath though.

Gonzalez, Haigwood, and two draft picks in the span of a week. This time next year the Phils might have a legitimate farm system.

I think the Phillies are creating a solid team. They are trying to make logical deals that fills holes. Not like the Mets who are acting like a fantasy team just throwing players on a team.

um, they've only added 1 starting first baseman and 1 reliever so far. Not exactly "throwing a team together"

There is going to be serious backlash against the Mets this offseason. I can tell already. It's going to make it even more humiliating next year if they don't win. But you have to remember the Mets wouldn't be doing this (Wilpon letting the payroll get this out of control?) if they weren't starting their own network next season.

And for all the "Mets are too old" stuff that is going to come up, they're young in CF, SS, and 3B. Can't defend the age of the pitching staff though.

Damn it. I was really hoping they wouldn't sign Wagner (or, at the very least, sign him to a reasonable contract). $10 million plus for a closer is insane.

Oh man, this is getting catty.

And Burnitz was decent in his last season with the Mets. He was actually one of the stronger offensive players on the team before they got rid of him. Get it right.
