Toshiaki Koala Posted November 10, 2005 Report Posted November 10, 2005 Neutral Milk Hotel, in the aeroplane Over the sea "ghost", "(untitled)", "two headed boy, pt. 2" <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ITAOTS, Two-Headed Boy Part 1, and Holland 1945 would be the ultimate 1-2-3 punch if they weren't separated by The Fool. But it flows better the way it is.
The Czech Republic Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 bump Rain Dogs Singapore-Clap Hands-Cemetery Polka Pleased To Meet Me I.O.U.-Alex Chilton-I Don't Know Another Green World Sky Saw-On Fire Island-St. Elmo's Fire Those are all 1, 2, and 3, in addition to being sequential. Neat! Berlin Lady Day-Men Of Good Fortune-Caroline Says I Funeral Neighborhood 1-Neighborhood 2-Une Année Sans Lumiere-Neighborhood 3 is a 1-2-3-4! punch, but Neighborhood 4 never gets off the ground so no 5. And besides once you're calling half an album really awesome you're treading beyond the premise anyway.
Lord of The Curry Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 Ghostface Killah- Fishscale 3. Kilo's 4. The Champ 6. 9 Milli Bros. (There's a skit on track 5 so I'm not gonna count that.)

The Czech Republic Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 Ghostface Killah- Fishscale 3. Kilo's 4. The Champ 6. 9 Milli Bros. (There's a skit on track 5 so I'm not gonna count that.) Call me Anglesault on this one, but somebody's gonna have to explain this whole "skits on albums" thing to me. I'm not even gonna raise a stink about it, because I like this thread concept, and I don't want to derail it like I derail all the other music threads. So just clear this up for me and we'll be back on our way. I mean, everyone says they're dumb and don't add anything to it. So what's the point of skits?
Lord of The Curry Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 Comedy? Interlinking songs? Wasting time?
Edwin MacPhisto Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 Yeah. That skit in question is actually only, like, 6 seconds long. They fit in rap albums since it's generally such an emphatically vocal medium, and while often just a waste of time, they can be great. Actually, I think the new Ghostface album uses them pretty well--extremely brief transitional pieces, or thematic introductions to songs that follow (i.e. "Bad Mouth Kid" and "Whip You With a Strap"). I feel that rap skits had their heyday with Niggaz4life, The Chronic, and Doggystyle, and a lot of the Ice Cube and Eazy-E stuff in that same period was similarly good.

CheesalaIsGood Posted April 11, 2006 Report Posted April 11, 2006 Therapy? Their cd "Troublegum" from 94. The first 3 tracks "Knives" "Screamager" and "Hellbelly". Great kick off to a great record.
Ravenbomb Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 Since when is Rocks a compilation album? Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out what Ravenbomb was thinking on that one.... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He's probably thinking about "Gems." Yeah, I was thinking of "Gems"

Though it hardly matters, as that's the best album by ratio for my money of all time.
Vampiro69 Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 U2, The Joshua Tree, "Where The Streets Have No Name", "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For", "With Or Without You" (followed by "Bullet The Blue Sky") Awesomeness. This is the exact album I thought of when I saw this topic.
Guest Sylvan Grenier Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 Yeah, you and the whole board. Probably the most famous 1-2-3 punch in rock, especially notable since after "Bullet The Blue Sky" the whole thing just peters out.
Henry Spencer Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 Man, I fucking hate Bullet The Blue Sky. Granted, I'm not a U2 fan at all, but could somebody please explain to me why that song is held in such high regard by their fans?
Guest Sylvan Grenier Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 I can tell you it's not because of "ONE HUNDRED! TEW HUNDRED!"
Skywarp! Posted April 15, 2006 Report Posted April 15, 2006 Weezer - "Pinkerton": Across the Sea, The Good Life, El Scorcho (alternatively: The Good Life, El Scorcho, Pink Triangle) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> o i bet u could say n e 3 songs from pinkerton apply! =w= <3! I know you're being sarcastic, but no. The center of that album is quality, while the ends are a bit uneven.
Guest Gunsmoke Bill Posted April 15, 2006 Report Posted April 15, 2006 Tom Waits - Closing Time 'Ol' 55' 'I Hope That I Don't Fall in Love With You' 'Virginia Avenue' Just go with it. The melody machine bust a cog or two before the final hit.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted April 15, 2006 Report Posted April 15, 2006 I can tell you it's not because of "ONE HUNDRED! TEW HUNDRED!" I think it might be because, for a lot of U2 fans, that about as heavy as music gets, so it's kind of a novelty? I like some of the swooshy guitar sounds.

Guest Gunsmoke Bill Posted April 17, 2006 Report Posted April 17, 2006 By the way, to hell with the first two albums; the Stooges never offered up a better example than tracks 4, 5 & 6 on Raw Power. 5, 6, 7's feasible also, but I prefer 'Penetration' to 'Shake Appeal'.
