the max 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2005 Sturm's older than Thornton. So is Primeau. Stuart is the same age. They traded a 26 year old borderline franchise player for depth. I just cannot understand it.
Guest Report post Posted December 1, 2005 I knew Sturm's been around for a while, but I thought he was younger. I'm wrong. The ramifications of this trade out West are huge. The Sharks got that extra player they needed to make a cup run.
the max 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2005 The Sharks still have to turn things around, otherwise this will be a waste of a trade for them as well. Losing Stuart is a blow for them, but...well...while they have MOC on their recent call list....maybe they want Gill too...
Guest Report post Posted December 1, 2005 I'd take Gill. Better than Nathan Dempsey.
the max 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2005 I'd trade Gill straight up for Dempsey.
Guest Report post Posted December 1, 2005 We should make it happen. How much does Hal Gill make?
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2005 Wasn't sure if I was supposed to post this in the November or December thread ... but since everyone else is talking in this one, I figured I would, too. Not to sound like I'm being overly dramatic, but it's a trade like this that makes me question remaining a B's fan. While the Bourque trade broke my heart, it was obvious that that season was over and Ray deserved a chance to win the Cup, plus it brought some legit talent back to Boston. This trade: is happening WAY too early in the season, has NOTHING to do with rewarding a long-time legendary talent with a chance to win a Cup, and does NOT bring legit talent back to the team, IMO. Sturm & Stuart are decent, but Stuart is not a #1 D-man, which is what trading a person like Thornton should bring back in return. And Sturm is no better than a second liner. And don't even get me started on Primeau, the guy is a journeyman checking line center, which the B's had too many of to begin with. The three players that they picked up will finish with less points & a worse +/- than Joe ... mark my words. The team is saying that they needed depth ... but unless they define depth as "our top line isn't much better than our 4th line" they haven't met that goal. At this point, they are a one-line team, and even that line isn't much better than a 2nd line. On top of that, they're still a piss-poor defensive unit. For at least the time being, I'm not going to consider myself a Bruins fan. They traded the cornerstone of their team, and got far too little in return. I'm apathetic if they win or lose ... this team could go undefeated the rest of the season and I still would be unable to give a shit. Go Sharks.

nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2005 The same way that I was willing to root for the Bruins when they weren't going to be a playoff team, I'm willing to root for the Sharks even though that they (most likely) won't be a playoff team.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2005 Leafs meet Atlanta for round 3 tonight. I think the whole bad blood has been resolved, but hopefully the Leafs can lay another asswhooping on them.
