FFVII: Advent Children

Recommended Posts

I've seen it twice. It's not the most terrific story at all, but I swear to God: This movie has the best action scenes I've ever seen. Which is saying something, since the last 45 minutes of the damn movie is a fight scene. It's truly great, makes me want to play FFVII for a 4th time, and makes me yearn for a sequel. If you love or hate the game, as long as you're familiar with it, the action scenes fucking deliver. In fact, if you hate FF, you should probably just watch the action scenes.

Just awesome. Makes me want to nut in my shorts.

I am not going to see it till it actually comes out but I have read the spoilers. It sounds like what I've always wanted.

The best action scenes you've ever seen? I think that's really pushing it, compared to the stuff LOTR and Star Wars etc have put out. I thought the movie was alright, worth watching but that's about it. And hearing "Cuh-loud-oo" 100 times wasn't really fun.

It's plot is fanfiction level, and the action scenes are total cheese anime style, but it's still worth seeing for the animation. That's about it.

I bought a very nice, totally legal I'm sure, copt on eBay. It was cheap. Subbing was fairly good. I'll definitely be buying the real version if it has some decent special features. Hopefully

Lance Bass won't play Sephiroth again

I can't wait, from what I've seen, it will definitely make up for that crap that was the Spirits Within and the FFVII ending.

Has anyone seen this yet? The moment when

Sephiroth appers

Is so badass.

The Sephiroth music kicks up, 'Long time, Cloud',

fucking awesome.

I think that honestly anyone should see this as a popcorn movie. Just fast-forward to the action sequences (which i think take up about an hour of a 1.5 hour movie, so it shouldn't be hard) It's such a fun, kickass movie. Any fight sequence in the Matrix is its bitch.

Same here, Lushus. As I've heard, it's not faithful to the FF series of games, so I guess maybe it's because I have no attachment to those, but I thought it was a decent movie. It kept me entertained enough to watch it a few times.

yeah, that's pretty much it, if you can get past the fact that it shares the same name and creator as the games themselves while having nothing to do with the games and just watch the movie, it's a pretty darn good storywise and certainly animationwise...it could easily be the first portion of a big Final Fantasy game...

So, did anyone pick this up Tuesday? I really enoyed the movie, and the Turks were my favorite part. I don't remember Rude and Reno being such dorks in the game, but I really enjoyed them in the movie. The fight scenes were done brilliantly with way too much action happening way too fast on the screen. The fight with Sephiroth was short and sweet, and just as epic as I had hoped it would be. If you haven't seen this yet, you owe it to yourself to watch it at least once.

As far as the Spirits Within, it wasn't because it wasn't related to any of the games story-wise that I didn't like it. It was because the plot made absolutely zero sense. It reminded me of Titan A.E. The filmakers put all their time and effort into making the movie LOOK good, without bothering to throw together a coherent plot.

How much screentime does Aeris get? Because I caught Mena Suvari's rendition of Aeris in KH2 and it's fucking terrible.

At least George Newburn I hear makes an excellent Seph.

Is it "Tee-fah" or (as Legendary Frog pronounces it) "Tiff-ah"?

I'll probably just watch the action sequences from the copy a friend bought.

The time it took to release it over here is pretty ridiculous. Probably half the people or more who really cared downloaded it last year.

I am terribly offended by Mena Suvari's performance of Aerith in KH2.

I mean, just as someone who enjoys voice acting.

I mean, it's the worst I can recall.

The WORST.

I'll probably pick this up at some point this week while it's still on sale...I'm weird in the sense that I can DL and burn music all day long, but I gotta have the actual DVD store release of a movie.

Shining Force 3: http://shiningforceacting.ytmnd.com/

Also just as bad is Castle Shikigami 2 on PS2, which is like 10 bucks and worth every penny.

However, for a professional actress, it's definitely horrendous. It just screams "I'm embarrassed to be doing acting for a video game, so I'm going to 1/8 ass it."

Mena's about the worst individual voice actor I've ever heard, but the game that takes the cake for me was Stella Deus, which was a nightmare of bad phrasing, disinterested delivery, and inane scripting.

Suvari did a good enough job. I never played KH2 to hear her supposed horrid voice acting. Aeris gets around 5-7 minutes of screen time.

Sephiroth comes across as cold and evil. Newburn did a very good job.

Tee-Fah

I've always found it funny how in college, they teach you that sticking to your deadlines is the only way to suceed in the business world. Yet all these game companies constantly push back their biggest releases, and can hardly ever stick to a deadline.

the English voice acting is just incredibly bad. Some of the voice actors are OK, but their performances are spoiled because it doesn't match the lips right, its basically like an anime with the dubbed vs subtitles option.

Halfway through i switched to Japanese with subtitles and could relax without getting distracted (cause their lips fit what I was hearing I guess). i ended up rewatching the first half in japanese with subtitles and it was much better.

I liked it, but there was almost too much Reno and the Turks and not enough of Barrett and Cid and the rest. Cloud's character arc was kind of interesting, I guess he wouldn't go back into the fight or get with Tifa and the rest of hte 'family' cause he was haunted by his 'failure' to save aeris.

Loved the whole gang coming together to take out the summon monster. I really dug the early character stuff with Cloud the 2nd time around and would like to have seen another half hour of depth, maybe with Barrett and Marlene or something.

Saw it, didn't nut in my shorts over it but thought it was pretty damn good. I had no problem with the English voice acting, including Suvari who did a perfectly acceptable job, except for the weird decision to make Cait Sith talk in a thick Scottish accent. I do wish there was a little less Turks and a little more of the FFVII main cast, but there were indeed a couple of major mark-out moments (the summoned monster fight, Sephiroth appearing).

muthafuckin Best Buy is sold out of them, gonna have to try a couple of other spots, hopefully not everyone is sold out.

Good luck finding it. I ended up having to go to K-Mart to get ahold of one.

I just called another Best Buy store and they had just gotten some more copies in...muthafuckas couldn't hold one lousy copy for like the next 20 minutes for me.

The best part of the movie: Rude getting his shades stepped on, inspiring the only facial expression he makes for the whole movie. (abject horror). NExt scene, Reno and the clones are talking, and in the background, you see Rude pull out a new pair of shades and put them on. Genius.

I went and bought it from walmart last night, they had plenty of copies. I LOVED IT! I thought the english voice acting was fine, the turks kicked ass and the fight scenes were awesome. Very pleased with it, haven't watched the deleted scenes yet though.

Again, I just can't put into words how awesome Reno and Rude were. Theyre easily the best parts of the movie. They go from being suave 'muscle' for the Shinra Corporation to complete goobers. Rude having a spare pair of shades, and Reno getting toyed-with by Cloud were great moments.
