UZI Suicide Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 I'm sitting here watching a simulated news conference with Steve Phillips acting as the Boston Red Sox GM, taking questions from "press people" (ESPN anchors like Jeremy Schaap and others) WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH ESPN?!!??! EDIT: They just had "technical difficulties", but said they'll return to it at the 2 AM Sportscenter.. also they're doing it again tommorrow with Phillips pretending to be the Yankees GM.
LooseCannon25 Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 They're so fuckin full of themselves it's ridiculous. They think they're more important than the actual sports and teams they cover.
Vern Gagne Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 Steve Phillips looks like an evil twin. This sounds lame. Incorporatng the Bud Light Football add into the NFL highlights was pretty fucking embarassing has well.
2GOLD Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 This is right up there with their "interview" with Babe Ruth.
Failed Bridge Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 they've become to sports what MTV became to music.
MillenniumMan831 Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 I don't mean this to be a wiseass . . . but what's the purpose of doing a simulated press conference? I mean if it was supposed to be a humorous spoof, that's one thing, but it wasn't. Really really bizarre.
Guest Leelee Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 Stop watching Sportscenter. I know it's a hard habit to break, but the show is just a parody now. It's pathetic attempts by their "experts" to get all their gimmicks over. ESPNEWS is still worthwhile. Although, it's just a matter of time before ESPN fucks that up too.
nl5xsk1 Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 As much as I detest using a wrestling analogy, ESPN News is like what Heat or Velocity were ... ignored enough that there's limited chance of it getting fucked up. They won't change something that they seem to not care about.
Guest Leelee Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 I would have thought the same about ESPN Classic. How hard is it to shove tapes in of old crap you have? But, no, let's throw in recent poker, B-level live events, and Arliss.
Guest Leelee Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 It's not bad, but it doesn't belong on Classic. Just like how the French Open doesn't belong on there. Fuck ESPN for telling me Cold Pizza > Grand Slam Tennis.
Damaramu Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 Fuck ESPN for a lot of shit. They just look for the next big thing. If the Pats don't make the playoffs this year they'll be like "Beliwho?"
2GOLD Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 Arli$$ was an entertaining show <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Any show that has Jessica Alba dressed in a tennis shirt officially wins in my opinion. Course, Alba straddling Robert Wuhl was very disturbing.
Slayer Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 Did they actually have those two hittin' it in the show?
2GOLD Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 Did they actually have those two hittin' it in the show? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes, yes they did. ETA: AH CRAP! It was Shannon Elizabeth. Well, same applies. Robert Wuhl being straddled by Shannon Elizabeth is JUST as scary. And I swear, those two almost looked like twins before Shannon's surgery.
Precious Roy Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 Incorporatng the Bud Light Football add into the NFL highlights was pretty fucking embarassing has well. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> that song wasn't even good as part of the commercial. people like beer and hot twins, they couldn't give a shit about that annoying hack song. but when it goes from being part of an outdated promotion to plastered all over ESPN every monday it just makes me want to take a sliced up bud can to my ears I haven't seen these fake press conferences yet, thankfully
iggymcfly Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 I try to stay away from ESPN on Sunday on Monday, as I certainly do hate that fucking song. Basically, I flip by, and stay if they're talking about college football or showing college football. Otherwise, I just keep on going.
The Czech Republic Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 THEY DO NOT STILL USE THAT FUCKING SONG. YOU'RE KIDDING. I! LOVE! Owens movin' quick! Suckin' Brady's dick! Bledsoe throwin' picks! AND TWEE-INS! was an absolute lowlight of autumn 2004 for me.
Brett Favre Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 The simulated press conferences would be a good idea if they gave you actual answers instead "The Yankees will be looking to upgrade center field, no doubt." WTF is that?
Damaramu Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 Another thing about ESPN made me mad. And I know you're all going to be like "oh shut up OU homer" but it's pretty valid. During their New Year's video(well before the orange bowl) they showed gratuitous highlights of USC and Auburn but not one single clip of OU. It was like they were saying "hey we think Auburn is getting screwed and we want to drive our point home." And then during the pre-game of the Orange Bowl they go on about how OU will blow USC out. Then after the Orange Bowl they say "Well we told you that OU wasn't that good" It just shows the high and mighty hypocritical nature of ESPN.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 The simulated press conferences would be a good idea if they gave you actual answers instead "The Yankees will be looking to upgrade center field, no doubt." WTF is that? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Just once I'd like to hear a GM say "we're going to downgrade our outfield and probably grab some scrubs for our bullpen." I'd get a kick out of that. Speaking of Bernie, I was surprised to learn today that he's logged more seasons as the Yankees' primary center fielder than any other player, including Mantle and Dimaggio.

AND TWEE-INS! was an absolute lowlight of autumn 2004 for me. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes, they do. And it's pretty sad, because it's usually up by the 7pm Sportscenter.

Hes been basically injury free his whole career.
BX Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 Goddamn, I hate that song. I REALLY fucking hate that song. That song makes me want to beat myself with a baseball bat, all the time yelling, "You stupid fucks! You stupid fucks!"
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 Yeah, I flipped on Sportscenter this morning, heard that song, and shut it off. I can eat my eggs in silence if need be.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 What the hell is ESPN going to do next year when they cant show NFL highlights until 12:01 am Monday Morning because NBC bought the exclusive rights to the air NFL sunday game highlights with the SNF package? CBS and FOX I think can air highlights as well for their postgame shows, but ESPN was blocked. Simulated highlights using Madden 2007..? Actually, thats probably what they'll do.
Damaramu Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 Why do they always refer to everybody as "the media" like they aren't a part of it? Granted they aren't journalist at ESPN but they're still members of the media.
Robert Posted November 9, 2005 Report Posted November 9, 2005 Yeah, it's gotting pretty bad for something that was actually good. I'm watching ESPN News, and on the bottom thing on the right, all I see is: Terell Owens to have meeting with abritrator on Nov 18th. There running the TO/Rosenhaus press conference since it aired, and it's getting brutal. They some of the most annoying people on (Jarowkski, Irvin, Jackson, Stephen A Smith, Mayne,Schelereth or whoever he is) and I only watch it for three things: PTI, Around The Horn, College Football pre-game and games. I'm even getting sick and tired of the people who I used to like: Berman, Scott, and Mike/Mike.
Precious Roy Posted November 9, 2005 Report Posted November 9, 2005 I just caught the Cubs version, Jesus this shit is stupid. I'd love to hear the actual GMs comments on this tripe
