MDH257 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2005 No 'Chicken Little' - Kids see suicide From N.Y. Daily News Saturday, November 5 A Times Square movie theater laid an egg at a showing of "Chicken Little" last night. Adults and kids expecting to watch Disney's G-rated animated flick at the AMC Empire 25 theater on 42nd St. were instead presented with a foreign film that opened with a young man committing suicide. "It's pandemonium," Joshua Gallo, 30, told the Daily News as he rushed out of the theater with his 5-year-old son and 1-year-old daughter. "The kids are crying. The mothers are screaming for the managers to stop the film." Terrified children didn't know what to do as they watched a young boy hang himself from a tree at the 8:45 p.m. screening. After five minutes, "Andrea," a Spanish drama opening today, was turned off and "Chicken Little" was played. Patrons got a coupon for a free movie.

Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2005 took the daughter to Chicken Little on Saturday...Madagascar was leagues better...
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2005 I don't get why Joshua Gallo was taking his 5 year old and 1 year old kids to an 8:45 pm movie. Isn't that a bit late for young kids?
Failed Bridge 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2005 Kids 3 years old and younger shouldn't be taken to a theater regardless what's playing. They can't keep quiet and they won't even remember the experience.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2005 I don't agree, my daughter hasn't even turned 3 (turns 3 tuesday) and I took her to Madagascar, Chicken Little and even Star Wars 3 and she sat through every single one of them without a fuss...
Guest Evolution Report post Posted November 7, 2005 She's in a minority. Even if a child is silent during the movie, some parents take it upon themselves to explain the action to their child in a loud manner. A parent and his children actually almost walked out of Wallace & Gromit because of the Madagascar short before it. Unrelated, but kinda funny. Wallace & Gromit is good, by the way. Guest netslob Report post Posted November 7, 2005 so all the character on the screne did was hang himself? big deal. what's so terrifying about that? if he blew his head off or slit something, ok, i can see that scaring a kid, but hanging? kids these days are pussies. Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2005 That's so awesome and tragic at the same time. That's worth more than a free damn cupon
Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2005 I know it's messed up, but I laughed my ass off about this. Just that bad news over happy music type thing I guess. And I agree with Black Lushus's decision to bring a 3 year old to a theatre for Chicken Little. That's not a bad thing. Now, my wife has 3rd grade students (she's a teacher) who's parents have taken them to see Saw II, that is fucked up.
The Mandarin 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2005 That's horrible. Kids don't need to see pretentious foreign films. If my kids saw The Barbarian Invasions instead of Monsters Inc., I would be absolutely furious.

Ripper 0 Report post Posted November 8, 2005 it doesn't matter the presentation. Kids watching suicide isn't what the parents intended for the night to be. Its funny to me now, but if that was my kid, I would be pissed
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted November 8, 2005 At least it wasn't Three...Extremes The best part is that they were given free passes. "My child saw suicide!" "Oh, well here's some free passes...carry on"
slimm44 0 Report post Posted November 8, 2005 This isnt as extreme but on vacation in Colorado I went to see The Faculty and it was one of those 3 theater places that showed Babe, Faculty and something else. While I was in the movie, two kids walked in and sat down with their mom, and after a couple minutes, during some disturbing scene, they get up and go 'This isn't Babe?!' and left...I found it pretty funny
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted November 8, 2005 Well, no, a hanging isn't necesarily very graphic, although one thing that could have happened is the parents obviously don't want their kids to see that and they reacted strongly, with the kids just reacting to their parents being upset. That can happen.
Special K 0 Report post Posted November 8, 2005 It could've been.... Race Bannon: Do me a favor, Brock. Brock Samson: Anything, old friend. Race Bannon: Tell... Jonny... I love... [Race dies, and all bow their heads. A pause, and a loud farting sound plays] Dean Venture: Ewww! I didn't know they... Ew! Brock Samson: Yeah, they never show that part on TV. kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2005 Here's something that happened to me when I used to work at the theater. I was selling tickets, and it was some three-day-weekend holiday. We sold out of a 1 p.m. showing of Madeline, which if you're not familar with the character, was popular a few years ago. Anyway, kids were coming to this movie dressed up in outfits like this: And their parents were taking pictures of them. Well, when I came out of the box office at 2 p.m., which was when the ticket seller took his or her break, I noticed there was a somber mood in the lobby. I asked someone what happened and was told that our manager, who was in charge of running all eight projection machines, accidently put in the movie that was going to be shown in the evening for theater #6, instead of putting in Madeline, which was the movie to be shown for theater #6's 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. showings. Theater #6's evening feature? Baseketball. And it played for about 5-10 minutes before a patron came out and asked an usher "Is somebody supposed to be peeing in Madeline?" Oh, and theaters are real anal about giving cash refunds, so the free passes aren't surprising...
SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2005 Oh, and theaters are real anal about giving cash refunds, so the free passes aren't surprising... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You know what they're even MORE anal about? Letting people use them. The projector broke when I took my then-girlfirend to see A Bug's Life, and they gave me a free pass. When we tried to use it to see The Phantom Menace a few months later, it required a 10 minute debate with the theater manager before I was allowed to exchange the pass for an actual ticket. Tawren 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2005 Back in 2000, I went to WWE No Way Out at a Famous Players theatre in Calgary. After the show, they changed the station (they were receiving the image via satellite and projecting it onto the screen) to porn. This chick was giving a guy a blowjob. They cut the image off after about a minute. I thought it was funny and left, but many parents were complaining. A week later, I got two free passes to Backlash in the mail. How did the theatre know I was there? To this day, I have no idea.

kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted November 10, 2005 You know what they're even MORE anal about? Letting people use them. You're right about that, although my place was pretty cool with the passes. Our first-run theaters on the other hand would be next-to-impossible, from what I heard. What was their reasoning, if you remember? Perhaps the manager was trying to warn you about seeing it...
