T.O. suspended for the rest of the season

ESPN.com

PHILADELPHIA -- Terrell Owens will not play for the Philadelphia Eagles again this season.

Coach Andy Reid announced Monday that Owens had been suspended by the team for four games for conduct detrimental to the team, the maximum games allowed by league rules, and would not return to the team for the remainder of the season.

The four-game suspension includes Sunday night's loss to the Redskins.

Owens has informed the Eagles, according to Reid, that the players' union has said it will be filing a grievance on his behalf for this action.

Reid said in his weekly press conference that despite this week's incidents, T.O. was given every opportunity to avoid being suspended but failed to make use of them.

Reid declined to comment on the details that led to Owens' suspension.

i just don't understand what kind of defense the players union is gonna have "Umm, Terrell is a model citizen and consummate teammate with not a negative thing to say regarding the Eagles Organization?" sheesh.

The PA files a grievance for everything, even when they know that they won't win. It's par for the course, and not surprising at all.

He's still going to get paid, so they're just telling him proactively that he's deactivated for each game after the suspension ends.

Man, I bet Ravens fans are dancing in the streets that TO was 'too good' for their team, eh?

Lol, so TO is still getting paid for every game... that's really showing him!

They'd be better off because if TO said that Boller/Wright sucked... who would disagree?!

Despite what most team's fans say... you wish he was on your team. And I still don't see a problem with him as long as he constantly performs on the field. Alienate the asshole, and just ignore the shit he says.

Easier said than done. Football is all about chemistry and it's kind of hard to get good chemistry with one of your top guys throwing the quarterback under a bus every chance he gets and challenging guys to fights in the weight room. TO has got to be one of, if not the biggest locker room cancer in sports.

I still find it funny that people thought he'd be different once he joined the Eagles.

Question is, which team will be dumb enough to take him next. I'm gonna guess Denver.

well technically he'll only get paid for 12 games of this season, and something tells me the Eagles will look to make him pay back the signing bonus he got. I can't see another team even willing to give him a multi-year contract. He'll get a low single year offer from some bottom of the barrel team if that.

Actually, I don't think he'll be paid during the suspension time. So he will end up losing close to a million from the deal, not to mention the rest of the loot he cost himself by being an assclown.

Oh, I know the Players Union files for everything, regardless of the outcome, I just find the idea of them appealing ridiculous.

From what I read the Eagles are suspending him for 4 games (without pay) and then deactivating him for the rest of the season. Teams can only suspend without pay for 4 games in a season. Hence the separate statements "TO is suspended for 4 games AND will not be back with the team this season."

EDIT: and i bet the grievance has to do with the suspension/money lost than the actual not playing for the team situation. But it's doubtful he'll get his money back, because there's a recorded history of disaparaging comments towards the team which will not play well in his favor.

they could suspend him for another 4 games if they allowed him to come back and he performed another stunt like the last. They're just not going to give that scenerio a chance of occuring.

Challenging guys to fights is a problem... I didn't know about that. And there's likely more reasons that we don't know about. Oh well. It's a shame with Terrell.

Yeah, last thursday or friday, he went into the weight room and said something to the effect that he thought some guys were faking injuries and sort of directed it at Hugh Douglas. They had to be pulled apart and as TO was being led out of the weight room, he challenged any of the Eagles that if they wanted some, to come get some.

Yeah, Trotter is a guy you really don't want to call out. He'd clean TO's clock something fierce. Although he's small, Brian Dawkins doesn't look like a guy to fuck with either.

"The People's Champion" Freddy Mitchell chimed in on ESPN News. It's all the media's fault, and he's really a good guy. Mitchell is sad this has happened to such a good guy. I'm sold, poor T.O.

This coming from Fred Ex, the guy who can't even make an nfl team? Who got passed over on the packers in favor of Taco Wallace?!?!

crazy as it may sound, the Eagles are just punishing themselves. In TO's mind this suspension vindicates him, he's too far gone to take anything from it.

as where he may go next season, teams will be lining up for a shot at him, don't kid yourselves. Hell, I'd like to see New England go after him, I don't care how stupid that sounds

Bill Belichick wouldn't touch him with a thousand-foot pole.

As for the rest, I don't think the Eagles are doing this as punishment -- they just legitimately want to get rid of the guy, as he's now become way more troublesome off the field than valuable on it.

what a mistake. the eagles put all of their eggs into the donavon mcnabb basket. sure owens said some ridiculous stuff & calling on your teammates to fight is idiotic, but everyone took mcnabbs side. but mcnabb did choke in the superbowl. mcnabb hasn't played well this year. maybe it is time someone questioned his heart. or his ability to get the job done. owens got it done in the superbowl, and his efforts were largely forgotten by the team.

anyway

owens will be a raider next year. he'll sign a short term contract for little money to prove his worth again.

No way does TO suit up with the Silver and Black. Just, no way.

I think the dumb thing the Iggles did was re-sign Westbrook when this off-season will have *the* best assortment of RB ace's in the league. Westbrook's a fuckin back-up compared to Shaun Alexander, someone who's worth locking up for many years.

TO is too good, someone will take a chance at him. The Raiders isn't that far off since Al Davis could give two shits if you murder babies, just so long as you are contributing to winning football games. It's not like Norv Turner has any control over that team anyways.

I disagree... I bet some teams believe they can save TO. The difference between TO and other troubled players, is that there's no question the guy will play for you and strongly improve your receiving unit. At least for a few weeks before he finds something to get attention over.
