Batista out indefinitely

WWE World champion Batista suffered a muscle tear in his back at tonight's Smackdown taping in Indiana. During a show closing angle, Batista was hit with a double chokeslam. When Randy Orton came down to the ring for their post-taping dark match, Batista was still down and remained on the mat for some time. They did a quick three minute match which featured Orton on offense followed by a quick spinebuster for the pin.

 

When Batista returned to the locker room, it was said that he had obviously torn his latissimus dorsi, a muscle on the upper back that connects under each arm. The muscle was said to have appeared to have rolled up. Batista was in a lot of pain. WWE was making arrangements to have him checked out tomorrow, presumably by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Alabama, who has treated major injuries for a number of WWE stars.

Does anyone here know how long it takes to recover from something like this?

Depending on how serious, 4 months to a year is what I'd guess, though he could be out much longer.

Well, although I like Batista and never would wish injury upon any wrestler even if I didn't like them, the positive side is that we'll likely see Orton, Guerrero, or if we're really lucky, Edge (shut up) as World Champion.

Well, I'm pretty sure that if you tear it off the bone which would be extremely severe, I figure it would take him a year. If it's a small tear, he could be up and running in about four to eight weeks.

 

I figure his physique is going to take a hit from thiis, so he's going to need to get in top flight shape.

This happened to Ben Sheets (a pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers) in late August. He, at least, missed the last six weeks of the season.

 

Brewers team physician Dr. William Raasch said the injury typically requires four weeks to two months to heal.

 

Then again, you can make your Brewers physician jokes here. Anyway, Sheets, missed the last six weeks of the season.

Edge is injured now, too, and isn't even on Smackdown, so I doubt this will happen. But like I said, I'd love to see it, and it could happen if Batista's out for more thana month or so.

 

Good to know that CanadianChick, Blazenwing, and myself aren't the only Edgeheads around here.

The title of this thread should be changed. Batistia isn't out indefinitely as far as we know, he just has a serious injury. Saying he's out for good is a bit much.

In an update, Meltzer confirms the injury is legit and that Batista tore his Lat (Latissimus Dorsi).

This is all the WWE need right now to fuck up the title picture. Not that it isn't fucked up enough with Batista AS champion. Whaaaaat? Umm Batista's been over for quite a long time and hasn't even become stale as a champion as long as he has had it. I can't understand why your saying Batista's run as champion has been a botch.

1:His fan responce diminshes every month, he doesn't even get a pop anymore.

 

2:He's worthless main eventer even when paired with ring scientists like Eddie Gurrrero.

 

3:He has had no interesting feuds since winning the belt.

 

4:Every move in his extremely limted move set, with the exception of his finnisher, he has botched at least once.

 

5:Terrible mic skills.

 

6:There is still nothing to whatever lame gimmick he is using.

 

Now back to the point. I can't understand how anyone can say Batista has been the least bit successful with this crappy title run. He is not over.

Well "indefinitely" doesnt mean forever...it just means an undetermined amount of time.

Slinging the title back on Randy Orton's green ass? Bad idea. Orton is, lets face it, a failure. As long as he has his semi-crippled dad carrying him, he will never be taken seriously as a legitemate main eventer and the idea of Batista/Orton headlining next years WM is totally uninteresting and yet another main event stinker much like WM 21.

 

I will agree though that Gurrero should be a huge face again and the strap should go to him. It will make up for last years buriement.

Batista (assuming he misses significant time) will be missed. He was one of, if not the only character that actually acted like an adult and not a goofy, immature adolescent.

Considering his physique they might have to actually use a hook on the muscle to pull it down into place to be secured again. It may only keep him out 2 months but you can bet he'll be advised to stay away from the weights for a while so he doesn't tear it again. I hope he likes swimming.

 

The way this could work is have Batista out with an injury, have Eddie win the belt after "fighting in your honor, ese" and winning maybe an eight man tournament on SD. Eddie can defend the belt, cheating to win and reverting to his old ways, all the while telling Batista over the phone and backstage that he's keeping it warm for him until he's 100%. Eventually Batista comes back and Eddie says he's the real champ and he will give it to him in the ring, Eddie beats the piss out of Batista with the belt and they have a gimmick match (Last Man Standing?) at the Royal Rumble where Batista regains the belt after one of Eddie's attempts to cheat backfires. I'd buy that for a dollar.

Batista would never accept the belt to just be handed to him after recovering from injury. Eddy could just beat the snot out of him during a tag match or something.
