Forza is a pretty good pickup, especially for someone who doesn't have a PS2/3. It provides a slightly different experience compared to Gran Turismo due to the car damage, slightly different physics and better AI. The cosmetic car customization is awesome too. It's definitely a game to buy, since you'd not be able to experience a good portion of the game via rental. But if brake/throttle control in a racing game isn't something that interests a person, this game probably isn't for them.

Ive heard that the intercooler voids the warranty and ive heard of it overheating and melting onto the 360. Also I hear its LOUD AS FUCK.

I'm dreading the day it happens to mine, I'm even expecting it. The sad thing is, we shouldn't be sitting here waiting for it to happen knowing Microsoft will do fuck all expect us to pay out for another console.

 

What makes it worse, I bet the new Ultra System has done nothing to improve the problem.

I bought my 360 in March, so I'm hoping they fixed that flaw in the newer models. If it goes, I'm not buying another 360 until they do fix it, because this whole thing is bullshit.

I got my Xbox 360 modded, so I can't get an extended warranty. I'm pretty sure there are local technicians who can repair RROD Xbox 360's anyway. There are even some home methods for fixing the heatsink issue.

Mine has had no issues in the 8 months or so I've had it (knocks on wood). The 360 needs very good venting. Nothing stacked on it etc. I would even recommend not running it with a glass enclosure closed.

 

 

Determining somethings reliability is iffy. Look at a Tivo or any device with a hard drive. Usually that drive will last at minimum 5 years and inside the Tivo it is running ALL the time. But, there are times when they have died within a year and Tivo only gives you 90 days parts and labor! Out of the 5 million that they have, this happens fairly frequently but then when you look at total cased and compare to boxes under sub, it isn't that great a piece of the pie.

I've been paranoid careful with my 360. Even though I keep it on a carpeted floor, I put a tile underneath is so it's sitting up and letting the vents breathe. There's a nice open space behind the system, and I moved the power supply brick so that it's not close to being directly behind the system. So far I haven't even had any problems to speak of.

But the Xbox's are having a pretty decent fail rate. The fact that they are in a resonably unchallenged niche (mid priced gaming) is the reason they aren't addressing it.

 

Electronics in general are going to have a fail rate, but there is no way that these things aren't over 20% and 20% is unnacceptable.

Yeah, I've taken a few precautions to try and lengthen the life of my 360.

 

In my stand it's on the bottom shelf, and I removed the middle shelf to give it more ventilation. I also never slide the glass in front of it when its on. I also lay it flat, and purchased a Nyko intercooler (makes some noise, but I guess it keeps it cooler).

 

Who knows if any of that makes any difference, but I just had two friend's systems give out to the infamous "red rings of death", so why not try some things to prevent it.

 

I agree it is pretty sad about the failure rate of these machines, but I'm sure what else to expect.

I don't think that I can get an extended warranty. I don't have a receipt because I didn't pay for it.

 

It said that I needed the receipt when the paper (or whatever it was, I'm not digging for it right now) for it was inside of the box.

 

I get the RROD and I'm fucked. I'll be able to buy another one, but still. I like having the one that I won.

Dust from the carpet being sucked into the block, carpet traps the heat like a blanket as well so it burns up quicker.

My postmaster's son's 360 failed after 5 months. He got a refurb sent to him...after 3 weeks it failed.

 

The failure rate is only 3%!....every week!

 

Most competent companies that have problems like this find out what the problem is, send it up to engineering, have any design-related product flaws fixed, and then incorporate it in newer units.

 

The x-clamp "theory" is being spread quite a bit, it seems. Plenty of folks claim success with replacing them with alternatives. Yet MS doesn't comment on it and refuses to change design.

 

If yours fails OOW, file a complaint with the BBB. Do *not* *pay* *Microsoft* *one* *damn* *penny* to repair their lousy system.

Every 360 has the same x-clamp design flaw. Every 360 is going to fail sooner than it should because of it. It's not *if* but *when*.

Trust me, if a company issues free returns and repairs for a product OOW, they are over 20%. And 20% wouldn't be nearly 2 million until recently (well...Christmas 06) and even now, that would be closer to a 1mill

If people are this noisy about the 360's failing, it makes me wonder what it was like when PS2s started dying en masse.

 

I haven't had any problems with mine. I also keep it well ventilated, which helps.

Anyone play the Shadowrun demo? I thought it had potential kind of like a TFC with magic, but I didn't really dig it. Seems to have a lot of bugs and not much substance.

I played the demo..and I thought it was ok, but I just played the tutorial stuff, I wasn't sure if the demo had a actual multiplayer demo as the game is already out, but I want to play the actual online game before I pass any judgement on it....I just have to rent it first.
