kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted December 14, 2005 (edited) Deadline for Saturday games is Saturday, December 17, at noon. Deadline for Sunday games is Sunday, December 18, at midnight. Saturday Games Tampa Bay at New England (4.5) Kansas City at N.Y. Giants (3.5) (9.5) Denver at Buffalo Sunday/Monday Games (1.5) Arizona at Houston (8.5) Carolina at New Orleans Dallas at Washington (2.5) N.Y. Jets at Miami (8.5) (3.5) Pittsburgh at Minnesota San Diego at Indianapolis (7.5) (7.5) Seattle at Tennessee San Francisco at Jacksonville (15.5) (7.5) Cincinnati at Detroit Cleveland at Oakland (3.5) (3.5) Philadelphia at St. Louis Atlanta at Chicago (3.5) Green Bay at Baltimore (3.5) A few things: 1) A few people from this contest over at the other message board will be taking over three teams here. The teams that have new owners are Tenn., Min., and Seattle. I wanted them to take ownership of these teams now so they can vote on the proposed scoring changes that will be voted on below. 2) Next year the amount of times EPs can be used before you lose your team has been cut to just three. After that, I may start looking for a new owner, even if the season is still in play. 3) Because I'm adding some people from the other league in the next few weeks, I'll be doing a re-alignment of who-gets-what-team next year. I will be favoring people that have been with this contest in one league or another since it started three years ago, so please keep that in mind if I want you to move. Also, I'll be weighing the number of times people used their EPs in determing who gets to pick where they want to move first. Basically, if you've been with this contest for 2-3 years, you'll stay put with your team, unless you want to move. If you are interested in switching teams, or if you want to stay put, please let me know via PM. I'll make a list of which teams are not available (For example, Spaceman Spiff has been with the Dolphins for 3 years, if he wants to stay put, the 'Fins are off the table) and start letting people pick which team they want to be. 4) I asked for feedback last week on if there are any changes you might be interested in regarding scoring/etc. I got several proposals for changing the way scoring is done. Here they are below: a) Keep scoring as-is. Use point spreads and the usual TB. b) Keep scoring as-is with the exception of no point spreads. This is the way it was done the first year I did this contest, and I changed it to point spreads because too many contests were only being decided with one or two differing games. With point spreads, there's a better chance for two teams matched up against each other to make differing selections. c) Use a point-weighing system. When you make your picks for the week (no point spreads -- straight up and straight down) you give that matchup a number from 1-16 (or 1-14 if it is a bye week). The higher the number, the more confident you are in your selection. If you get that matchup correct, you get the points. For example, if Indy is playing Houston, you'd want to pick Indy and give a "16." For a game like, say, Pittsburgh at Cincy, you may want to give it a lower score unless you have some specific inside info that makes you 100% sure the team you pick wins. Whoever ends up with the most points (not correct picks) wins. The first TB will be whoever has the most correct picks. The second TB will be whoever more accurately guesses how many points your team scored. d) Like "c" only with point spreads used instead of straight-up/down selections. Let your voice be heard -- vote a, b, c or d. Even if you PM me your picks, please post your vote in this thread. If there isn't a clear-cut winner, I'll do a run-off. Also, if you say "I don't care/etc." this will be a vote for "a..." sfaJack 0 Report post Posted December 14, 2005 I'm part of another league where we use the weighted system in options C/D. It works great for a league where you just make picks and add up the points every week to determine the winner. For this league, where two teams are matched up head-to-head each week (and I'm assuming it would continue to be setup this way), the confidence points seem unnecessary. I vote for A. I like the way this league is structured, and we definitely need to use the spreads to avoid the "similar picks" problem kkk had in the past.

You assume right. I should also point out that if we go to "c" or "d" you will have to spend more time deciding your 1-16 order of confidence each week... Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted December 14, 2005 (edited) I vote B, which is how it works in the College Football Pick 'Ems here, and I like it better than determining point spreads, even though I did a decent job of it last year. Also, my picks: New England Kansas City Denver Houston Carolina Dallas Miami Minnesota San Diego Seattle San Francisco Cincinnati Cleveland St. Louis Atlanta Green Bay Green Bay will score 13 in an ugly, ugly Monday night game. Jets at Miami (8.5) (3.5) Pittsburgh at Minnesota San Diego at Indianapolis (7.5) (7.5) Seattle at Tennessee San Francisco at Jacksonville (15.5) - Sooner or later, the Niners will cover.....Not this time. (7.5) Cincinnati at Detroit Cleveland at Oakland (3.5) (3.5) Philadelphia at St. Louis Atlanta at Chicago (3.5) - This one took a while, but I think the Falcons will be a lot more deflated than the Bears after both teams losses last week. Green Bay at Baltimore (3.5) St. Louis - 20 points I'll take A. Good luck to all but my NFC West division-mates Also, while it's still not a forgone, how will the playoffs work? The Superbowl, in particular, is vexing. Is it just the one pick and tie break, or will there be others to bet on? Obviously, in Vegas, there's plenty to bet on, will those apply here? kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2005 (edited) The kkk Bowl is just one pick and a few TBs. And let's not get too ahead of yourself. You need to make the playoffs first, hippie. Here's the rules to the post-season that I was going to copy and paste from my playoff thread from last year... Whoever picks the most correct winners in each match-up advances to the next round. Example: * Cerebus picks Seattle, San Diego, Indy and Green Bay to win. * Cartman picks Seattle, San Diego, Denver and Green Bay to win. * Seattle, San Diego, Indy and Green Bay win. * Cerebus beats Cartman 4-3 If there is a tie then the first tie-breaker will be whoever was more accurate in picking the total scores for all four separate games. Example: * Bravesfan picks Seattle to win 7-3, San Diego to win 3-0, Indy to win 10-0 and Green Bay to win 9-7 * Vern picks Seattle to win 7-0, San Diego to win 10-3, Indy to win 14-0 and Green Bay to win 20-10 * Seattle wins 10-0, San Diego wins 13-3, Indy wins 20-17 and Green Bay wins 14-9. * Bravesfan and Vern are tied at 4 correct picks each and move on to the first tie-breaker. * Bravesfan had a total of 10 points selected in the Seattle game (7 for Seattle, 3 for St. Louis), Vern had 7 (7 for Seattle, 0 for St. Louis). The final score total is 10, so Bravesfan wins that game. * Bravesfan had a total of 3 points selected in the San Diego game, Vern had 13. The final score total was 16, so Vern wins that game. * Bravesfan had a total of 10 points selected in the Indy, Vern had 14. The final score total was 37 so Vern wins that game. * Bravesfan had a total of 16 points selected in the Green Bay game, Vern had 30. The final score was 23 so Bravesfan and Vern TIE this game. * Vern defeats Bravesfan 2 games to 1 in the first tie-breaker. If there is still a tie after the first tie-breaker, the second tie-breaker will be combining the total points of all four games and seeing who is closest to the total score of all four games – the first tie-breaker had all four games counted separately. If there is still a tie after the second tie-breaker then I’m going to shoot myself. But before I do I’ll flip a coin to determine the winner -- heads the “road” team wins, tails the “home” team wins. Dr. Tom 0 Report post Posted December 17, 2005 Option C sounds too swingy. One upset could kill you there, while one upset in another system is just one more game. I'm aware that greater risk = greater reward, but the 1-16 power picks approach just seems gimmicky to me. After some thought, I actually like the spreads, so long as we're using the real Vegas lines. So I'll stick with what we have now: option A. Picks made on the other board, though I'd like to add 5 to my TB points. Since I just found out I had a team here now. :-/
