Hogan Made Wrestling 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2006 Has anyone considered Eric Staal for Hart? What the hell is Carolina doing atop the NHL standings? Staal has been good but Carolina's success has as much to do with their team depth and some other players who are having great seasons but arn't at the top of the stats sheets (specifically Brind'Amour and Gerber). Guest Report post Posted January 23, 2006 Speaking of turning a profit, this is the first season that the Kings are going to turn one. Ever. Really? Not surprising after a couple 12,000 a game seasons during the early '00's....Surprising after the early 90's with a moderately priced Gretzky. The salaries and arena costs have always been a deterrent for the Kings. Carolina is high up for 3 reasons. 1. They play Washington and Florida a lot. 2. They're getting career years from everyone, even Matt Cullen. Take a look at his stats, it's shocking. 3. New rules allowed the team to use the speed they've always had without being held up. Guest Report post Posted January 23, 2006 Apparently, Quinn's on the hot seat, and the media's jumping all over it. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=151949&hubname=
treble 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2006 I really doubt there's anyway he gets fired before the Olympics. I really doubt there's anyway he gets fired, period, but I can't see anything like that happening before the Olympics.
Guest Report post Posted January 23, 2006 If Ferguson puts his stamp on the team after the season's over, then I can definitely see something happening. If Quinn were to get fired this year, Toronto would have to go winless in their next 5 at the very least. Tonight, there are either going to be a lot of fights in a blowout, a close game, or a game where the Leafs get blown out and show no emotion. I'm hoping for a lot of fights in a close game, but I'll be watching either way. I love CI.

Guest Report post Posted January 23, 2006 Yeah, I can hope for a close game, but reality tells me it's going to be 7-1 or something like that. Plus, if it's that bad, Nashville's playing Detroit.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2006 I think Ferguson will get fired before Quinn, but I don't think Quinn will get fired unless things get really bad. In the Sun a couple weeks ago someone wrote a column on how this might be Quinn's best season as Maple Leafs coach. So much for that! Everyone hates Ferguson, so I just don't think they'd let him stay and axe Quinn

Kismet 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2006 Tonights Nashville/Detroit game is the rescheduled one from the night Jiri Fisher collapsed. Interesting thing about it, the game will be a full 60 minute game with the Nashville 1-0 lead holding over from the original game.(They had played a bit over a full period the first time if I remember right). Give the fans their money's worth with a full game
Annabelle 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2006 now that milbery is gone, ferguson is the worst gm in the league. how he constructed this team, in relation to the rule changed, was downright laughable. they're getting blown away by all of the fast, dynamic teams. they really don't stand a chance. the only redeemable player they have is mccabe. even sundin has lot a step or three. Guest Report post Posted January 23, 2006 Ever since McCabe and Tucker have been gone, this team has no life left. The Leafs have the worst defensive corps (as a whole) in the entire league. Khavanov, AKI BERG and Belak (when back there) are all awful.
treble 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2006 I think it's hard to judge him by this season. They went for it all last season (since they had to) and that put them in a bad position going into the 'new' NHL. At the start of the season, most people thought they would be a middling team on the fringe of the playoffs and that's where they are right now. It's highlighted by the fact that they've lost 5 in a row (probably 6 pretty soon), but they're doing what they were expected to do by most people. They should have a nice bit of room under the cap going into next year and some good young players already up (Steen, Stajan, Wellwood, Coliacovo) so the future looks decent. Kismet 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2006 Not a whole lot has been said on Fischer in recent Detroit telecasts. He had the big press conference a while ago, and at the time had to wait a set period of weeks/months and go thru a battery of tests before they even decide if he can play again. I would assume that being the rescheduled game tonight, that the pre-game or while the game is going there will be some sort of update.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2006 Also, as much as I'd love to see Quebec or Winnipeg with a team, I'm not holding my breath on it. The Winnipeg Arena is currently being demolished. True. The new arena would be the smallest in the league by nearly 1,000 seats. I don't follow..... They built a new arena (the MTS Centre) in Winnipeg over a year ago. It holds 15,000 for hockey. As much as I hate to agree with the idea of Pat Quinn keeping his job, I agree with this. Everyone's conveniently forgetting that their leading scorer has been out for this entire streak, not to mention Lindros and Tucker. They've been decent for the most part with those guys in the lineup; they just hit a rough patch due to injuries. It happens to the best of teams. Quinn getting fired because of this losing streak specifically would be bullshit.

Brush with Greatness 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2006 Carolina is high up for 3 reasons. 1. They play Washington and Florida a lot. Umm, do you actually research this or do you just spew this stuff out without any real thought behind it? The Flyers are 5-0-1 against the Caps and Panthers this year and Carolina is 5-1 against said teams. Overall, the 'Canes are 8-5-1 in the Southeast. Meanwhile they are 10-2-1 against Atlantic teams, 7-2-1 against Northeast teams, and 7-2-1 against the Western Conference. So basically, their worst record, winning percentage wise is against teams in their own division. But you're right, the reason they are high up in the standings is because they play Florida and Washington alot (6 times so far, pretty much the same amount as every other team in the Eastern Conference). Dogbert 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2006 The Flames clinched the season series with Edmonton tonight with a 3-1 win in Rexall. Iggy with two goals, and Kipper with 30 saves.
Guest Report post Posted January 24, 2006 Let's go all the way through Carolina's schedule. Wins over true quality teams are as follows. Atlanta (and that's a maybe) 3 times, Ottawa 2 times and Philadelphia 2 times, Buffalo before they got hot once, the Rags once, LA 1 time, Detroit and Nashville (those are real impressive). Big whoop. They beat up on the Devils without Elias, a Tampa Bay team with zero goaltending, a shitty Montreal team twice, Columbus, Chicago, Anaheim, Toronto twice, Boston, Washington, Pittsburgh, the Isles, the Blues and Florida a lot. Not real impressive, but they don't make their own schedule. If they played better competition they would still be 3rd in their conference.

Ferguson + brain damage = a better GM than Mr Mike O'Connell. Under his vision, the Bruins went from a 100+ point team to a team that will be very, very lucky to even make the playoffs. I'd take Milbury OR Ferguson over MOC any day of the week.
