I voted for Green Day. It's not because they're the worst band on the list because they aren't. However, I can avoid bands like Simple Plan just fine.

 

The twentysomething singles released from American Idiot, though, are impossible to avoid. At one point I could swear that I was hearing Boulevard of Broken Dreams at least three times a day no matter what, even if I kept the radio off all day. Words cannot begin to describe how completely and totally sick I am of Green Day.

You know what I hate most about the Black Eyed Peas? Those Best Buy commericials.

No, jackass, that isn't insane. That's mundane. We had recorded music when I was a kid. My parents had recorded music when they were kids. Their parents had recorded music when they were kids. Recorded music is not new. Best Buy is not the first store to sell recorded music. And, even better, they're not even the first ones to sell the devices to play recorded music on on.

 

Yeah, the first time I saw the commerical, I was all like "hey, that's kinda cool" until I remembered something. I had no fucking clue who the Black Eyes Peas were or why I would want to listen to the Black Eyed Peas. Turn off the sound and I was sure the Fugees were making a comeback.

Jesus of Suburbia is the ONLY song on the album that has anything close to an interesting melody. Or a good guitar hook.

 

The only conclusion I can come to, is you simply need to listen to more albums. Green Day has some pretty good albums, IMO, so this isn't Green Day hate, but American Idiot is FUCKING ATROCIOUS.

The only reason Lil Wayne has any sort of following is because Mannie Fresh made the dude's career. Solid production has blinded many to the fact that Wayne's rhymes usually go something like this: "I'm out of place like Sheffield in leftfield." You can't be gangsta and mention Gary Sheffield. It's just a rule.

 

As for these non-descriptive whitey bands, I can't believe they've got such a strong following. I know people whose favorite band is Fall Out Boy. I hadn't ever heard anything from them, but when I finally did, I didn't get it. How that can not only be enjoyable to you, but your favorite, doesn't make sense.

I own all of those. I'm not saying that Green Day is more technically skilled than a lotof other musicians, but I've always been a huge fan of theirs (their pre-Dookie work is probably my favorite aside from AI, although I didn't discover them til after Dookie hit) and they're simply my favorites.

 

My previous favorite album was Morrison Hotel.

Of course, many are, but Thom Yorke can't read music, John Lennon was no great guitarist (Jeff Lynne had to re-record his parts on Anthology), Bono & The Edge don't strike me as wizards, Roger Waters usually had his bass parts done by Dave Gilmour, and Morrissey, from all reports, might just be the most musically inept person to ever front an influential guitar band. Read an anecdote of him trying to do that awful "Golden Lights" cover where he's asking about "making the guitars start out of tune but go into tune" and nobody can figure out what the fuck he means. Thing is, they're all writing better music than Green Day.

I forgot I put this on here. I almost didn't include Green Day because I like a lot of their stuff, but they've just been so overhyped. I think it has to do with the lack of good new rock bands. A major rock band puts a little thought into one album and all the sudden people think they are these brainiacs. Older Black Eyed Peas were good before they became a straight pop group. Oh No is fucking sick.

 

Of course, the fact that I said that I don't like Ghostface in another thread will make all this irrelevant to most.
