haVoc Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 Thirty men. Every man for himself. And an opportunity at the WWE or World Heavyweight Championship on the line. Put all of that together and you have yourself one of the most intense, unpredictable, exciting matches of the year. It’s the Royal Rumble, and it’s coming to you Sunday, Jan. 29. Last year Batista and John Cena went into sudden death in the Royal Rumble with Batista ultimately winning and defeating Triple H at WrestleMania 21 for the World Heavyweight Championship. The year before that, Chris Benoit finally won the big one and went on to WrestleMania XX and achieved his life-long dream of becoming World Champion. Will the Rumble prove to be the starting point for someone else’s march to the title at WrestleMania? Credit: WWE.com WWE wouldn't lie.
strummer Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 Alvarez: - Goldust and Jim Duggan are backstage at the show and will be in the Rumble.
Guest tony manero Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 It does look like Rey's winning, but I just don't believe WWE would go through with it. Rey winning the Rumble and not getting a main event match at Mania, let alone winning the title, would be stupid. As Meltzer mentioned, there's a great story there with Rey winning the World Heavyweight Title in the same night Eddie is inducted into the WWE HALL OF FAME.
cabbageboy Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 Dude, if they actually have Rey win and then job him in the contender match to Orton that would be the most disgusting thing I've ever heard of. If you're gonna have Rey win the Rumble go all the way with it. May I ask...what else can you do with Rey at WM if he wins the Rumble and doesn't go for the title? Put him in a Raw/SD MITB style match? Regardless of what RVD does, if he is in fact eliminated I assure everyone on here the crowd shits on the rest of it.
Dips Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 Well I've pretty much resigned myself to the fact I won't be getting the Rumble. I was going to get the webcast but don't have the funds available tonight. Anybody know where I can get decent live coverage? If not the event itself, than an up to date show report or something? ...or should I just keep clicking this here Refresh button? Streamtvnow.com I use that site. It's around $4 for a month's suscription. They have coverage of NFL, NBA, NHL, WWE, etc. The quality is really good too, been using it for a while.
Downhome Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 I guess the final spot will go to Taker. I can't wait to see Goldust and Hacksaw again as well.
4hartthreat Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 With Meltzer's new update, it now leads me to believe that the winner will be the man I had as 4th most likely to win and the only man going into the Rumble with an actual story: Shawn Michaels. Shawn wins, and then Vince finds a way to screw him out of his shot at WM, and that leads us into the much rumored Shawn-Vinny Mac Mania bout.
Angle-plex Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 Rey wins tonight. Orton vs Angle at WrestleMania for the Title. Can the Royal Rumble winner still switch brands?
Guest tony manero Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 With Meltzer's new update, it now leads me to believe that the winner will be the man I had as 4th most likely to win and the only man going into the Rumble with an actual story: Shawn Michaels. Shawn wins, and then Vince finds a way to screw him out of his shot at WM, and that leads us into the much rumored Shawn-Vinny Mac Mania bout. That doesn't make sense because Vince "guarandamnteed" that Shawn will get screwed at this Sunday's Royal Rumble. If Shawn is getting screwed, it won't be AFTER he wins the Royal Rumble, it will be during the Royal Rumble.
snuffbox Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 tony manero - Did your uncle's neighbor's best friend give you any more inside scoops about the Rumble?
4hartthreat Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 With Meltzer's new update, it now leads me to believe that the winner will be the man I had as 4th most likely to win and the only man going into the Rumble with an actual story: Shawn Michaels. That doesn't make sense because Vince "guarandamnteed" that Shawn will get screwed at this Sunday's Royal Rumble. If Shawn is getting screwed, it won't be AFTER he wins the Royal Rumble, it will be during the Royal Rumble. Vince dosen't always get what he wants. If the winner of the Rumble is NOT getting the shot at Mania, Shawn makes perfect sense. Having rey win the rumble and then not giving him his shot would be ludacris. The fans would be pissed off beyond belief. HHH winning the rumble then not getting his shot sure as hell isn't happening. The only other possible winner is Orton and it could happen the opposite of what every here is saying, and Orton wins then loses the shot to Rey on the road to WM. BUT, seriously, how much can one character be assassinated? I know this board would love it, but if they do this to Orton AGAIN, he will finally be beyond salvaging and lost to them as a serious main eventer forever.
Enigma Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 Yes, Meltzer said in his Sunday update that the winner of the Rumble won't be getting the WM main event, so it gives Rey Mysterio a bigger shot at winning.
RepoMan Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 Alvarez: - Goldust and Jim Duggan are backstage at the show and will be in the Rumble. Spoiler tags would have been nice. Guessing which random "legends" would be at the Rumble is one of my favriot aspects of the PPV.
cabbageboy Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 I hadn't even thought about Shawn winning the Rumble. I'd figured so much that Vince would screw him tonight that it never entered my mind. But really, him winning and Vince screwing him over makes a lot of sense, certainly more than Rey winning and getting fucked over on SD.
naiwf Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 With Meltzer's new update, it now leads me to believe that the winner will be the man I had as 4th most likely to win and the only man going into the Rumble with an actual story: Shawn Michaels. Shawn/Vince is going to be THE Main Event of WM in terms of hype regardless. It's got to be either Rey or RVD if the rumor is true. No one else fits.
Lil' Bitch Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 My predictions: WWE Championship John Cena Vs. Edge I'd love to see Edge hang onto the title a little bit more longer, but I'm almost for certain Cena's getting it back and its a damn shame. World Heavyweight Title Mark Henry Vs. Kurt Angle For the love of God, please let Angle retain. Ever since Bradshaw got the fucking title, I haven't trusted WWE when it comes to shitty wrestlers getting world title shots. Ashley Vs. Mickie This match could go either way really. Iin the end, it will only be to establish Mickie as a heel, which is better this way since it won't be a complete rehash of the Sable / Tori feud. I'm also picking Mickie because Alexis Laree > another soon to be Playboy Flavor of The Month. The Boogeyman Vs. JBL I wouldn't be surprised one bit if JBL pulled a fast one in this since he's protected beyond belief, but the Boogeyman has made quite an impact since the debut of his ridiculous, but entertaining gimmick and fans to seem to like it. Oh how glorious it would to see former world champion, Bradshaw be jobbed out to a rookie. : D Open Challenge for the Cruiserweight Title Kid Kash Vs. Mystery Opponent I'm guessing the mystery opponent will be Paul London or Nunzio. Either way, I see Kid Kash retaining. The Royal Rumble: Randy Orton Despite some of the big names involved, I really don't see a certain winner (The Coach LOL) besides HHH or Orton and I'd rather see RKO get rewarded than HHH doing more egostroking at the end of a big PPV. I'd like to see RVD win or Mysterio actually pull it off, but I'll believe it when I see it.
haVoc Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 They're planning something with Vince and Shawn. Vince will be picking the numbers tonight instead of the wrestlers getting their usual random picks.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 Well if HBK wins the Rumble, I should assume that Edge would retain the title earlier in the night. Vince screws HBK over sometime in February and he loses the title shot and then they get the match no one wants at WM between HBK and Vince. Then they could do a 4 way with Edge Cena HHH and ??? at WM for the Title.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 With Meltzer's new update, it now leads me to believe that the winner will be the man I had as 4th most likely to win and the only man going into the Rumble with an actual story: Shawn Michaels. Well I said earlier that Mark Henry could win tonight and they would do everything they could to keep him out of the Main Event at WM.. Mark Henry vs Rey Mysterio 3!
NoCalMike Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 ............and that leads us into the much rumored Shawn-Vinny Mac Mania bout. Wow, Vince is trying to make me not buy WM.
Guest whizzo Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 They're planning something with Vince and Shawn. Vince will be picking the numbers tonight instead of the wrestlers getting their usual random picks. I thought that would have happened by now on wwe.com?
MarvinisaLunatic Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 ............and that leads us into the much rumored Shawn-Vinny Mac Mania bout. Wow, Vince is trying to make me not buy WM. I wouldnt have a problem with HBK/Vince, except that it looks like it could very well be the main event of WM. It had better be a retirement match or something..
cabbageboy Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 It's not RVD. If they have him win the Rumble and somehow screw him out of the title shot then I think most everyone would be PISSED. At least with Rey there's always the argument "Well, can you really see him main eventing for the world title?" Maybe Meltzer has no idea? Anyone think of that?
haVoc Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 They'd ruin the match if they posted the entries online.
haVoc Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 You'd think Triple H already won the Rumble by the way this place is lagging.
BorneAgain Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 Alvarez: - Goldust and Jim Duggan are backstage at the show and will be in the Rumble. There must be an encounter between him and Booker tonight, just to see T's (and possibly Sharmell's) reaction to dealing with Goldust again.
Lil' Bitch Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 Oh yes and having the winner of the Royal Rumble not even getting a world title shot at Wrestlemania is probably one of the stupidest things they could do (VINCE DOESN'T COUNT!!!). Its bad enough I had to see that shit happen back in 97 with Stone Cold, I don't want to see it happen again.
Lord of The Curry Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 Still carrying the scars almost ten years later, huh?
UZI Suicide Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 All this talk about HBK winning the RR, or the winner not even getting the title shot at WM makes me feel a lot better about the fact that I'm not ordering the PPV tonight.
Boon Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 Shelton's momma is winning the Royal Rumble.
