cbacon 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2006 The Strokes - First Impressions of Earth Listened to half of it, reserving judgment for later. Is the Belle and Sebastian album any good? I've been meaning to check them out.
Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2006 Pearl Jam should be releasing one. No title/date yet.
Henry Spencer 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2006 I'm on a quest to acquire that Mogwai album, but every leak I've downloaded so far has been fake.

Matt Young 0 Report post Posted January 12, 2006 I want a new Tool album. Ditto Michelle Branch. The new Chili Peppers should be good... I'm sure there are many more, but those come to mind first.

Red Baron 0 Report post Posted January 12, 2006 Will Dr. Dre and Axl Rose have new records out? Axl Rose is still alive? He just bought himself a BMZ Z8 last I heard and that was last week. I do want a new Tool album and hopefully Mastodon as well.
CBright7831 0 Report post Posted January 12, 2006 Still waiting for new Tech N9ne...it's been promised for well over a year now...still no signs of it. Did he ever release the album that was supposed to feature Slipknot and Eminem?
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 12, 2006 In all seriousness....Tool should have a new cd out and a tour by Fall.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted January 12, 2006 Every year that's passed since the last Tool album has found me liking them less and less, and I used to love them. I feel like, while interesting musically, any of their songs that have lyrics have the same sort of half-life that Nine Inch Nails does, with Tool lasting a few years longer until you get tired of the sentiment. Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted January 12, 2006 That's about the size of it. It's big and complicated music for people who can't understand big and complicated music.
Annabelle 0 Report post Posted January 12, 2006 i sorta liked the new strokes album. its rockier. kinda crunchy. seems the change has alienated some of its "original" fans. too bad the single reminds me of hash pipe. i also enjoyed the greatest. haven't bothered with anything else yet. Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted January 12, 2006 Hey, Cat Power. How does it compare to You Are Free? It's a bit fuller sounding, yet the songs are kind of slight. It's not bad by any means, but I don't know if it has much of a replayability factor. For the record, I felt similarly about YAF. And, as of this post, I'm two songs into the new Lilys album. Good so far.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted January 12, 2006 Is the Belle and Sebastian album any good? I've been meaning to check them out. I'd say it's their best full length since If You're Feeling Sinister, but I doubt that means anything to you. If you're new to this band, check out IYFS or the recent Push Barman to Open Old Wounds comp.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted January 12, 2006 Now I am listening to the Strokes' First Impressions of Earth. I've managed to avoid listening to the Strokes for over four years now; Julian Casablancas' voice is as grating as ever. Why did I download this.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted January 12, 2006 I think the band is aptly named, since I'm willing to bet that writers are doing some absentminded masturbating while writing all those pieces on these five RICH, HOT young men, who know they don't have to be deep if all they wanna do is drink and fuck, who are FINALLY bringing New York back to its rightful post-punk supremacy! P.S.: Something about CBGB and Television!

Matt Young 0 Report post Posted January 12, 2006 I think you're reading too much into this, Czechers. The Strokes suck.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted January 12, 2006 Yes.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted January 12, 2006 Every now and then, there'd be a song with a nice melody or guitar line, but then Casablancas starts his Downsy wailing and kills the song's momentum. Not that they'd be better with a different singer; that they occasionally come up with a nice hook seems more an accident, given the overwhelming mediocrity of most of their output. The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted January 12, 2006 Bitching about Strokes-related hyperbole is sooooooo 2001.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted January 12, 2006 Yeah, I don't think anyone cares about the band's image anymore, Czech.
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted January 12, 2006 Would you classify them as a one hit wonder then? Other than last night, they haven't had much success since then. Oh ya, The Strokes do suck.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2006 I once read a magazine article that called The Strokes "so overrated that they're underrated."
Kinetic 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2006 You guys just don't understand rocking. The new Strokes album is pretty solid and is really only hampered by some schlocky production and one or two poorly chosen guitar parts on a few songs. It's more than half good.
cbacon 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2006 I'd say just about half good. Juicebox and Razorblade being the stand out tracks.
