Solid complementary character, and a nice nod to the past. I think we were all wondering when the Pierce-Palmer card would be played, and they used it about as well as I could have hoped for. But Cummings is still in on it, right? Well, for his sake he'd better not be. Otherwise he'll join Ryan Wolfe as a "Monday night TV character with eye problems". Still, given his "patriot" line, I'd expect Cummings to go the "dies a hero" exit from the show.

the max Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 Good calm before the storm episode tonight. Mostly plot filler, but solid filler. Big letdown with the Ukrainian girl being the one behind the bed and then killing whatshisname in the end. I'm disappointed in them recycling the season 2 idea of Jack having to assist in terrorism. Hopefully they put a twist on this.

I was actually finding that more interesting than the whole nerve gas issue. And we still don't know who was setting up Jack to take the fall as Palmer's assassin and who knew he was still alive.

The Kim tease was nice, and Chloe'n'Edgar are always awesome, but the rest just felt a little too familiar - crazy woman killing important villain moments before said villain will do something to help us out (Alexis Drazon, Saunders), the "Listen to me, no listen to me!" Presidential advisor thing that's been going on in almost every season... ... although I'm now beginning to suspect that Mrs. Logan is dirty, and in it far more deeply than Walt (who didn't know - sort of a Jamie/Nina in reverse). It's entirely possible that she manipulated events to force her husband into giving her a seat at the table, even if only out of guilt. No proof, obviously, but I'm keeping my eye on her. I think she's pulling a power-play. I wonder if this Crazy Druggy Sister thing is going anywhere. I didn't expect the mugging, but I can't really see many interesting places for it to go from there. Then they can play the "breach to national security" card with Lynn caught in the middle of trying to protect his sister and doing what's right for the country.

I do believe this is the first season of 24 where Jack and Co. aren't looking to thwart an elaborate terrorist plot - that is to say, the bad guys are pretty much improvising at this point (unless there's a bigger thing going on we don't know about yet). I wonder how they'll keep it chugging along, then, if it's not going to follow the "Jack finds out enough of the conspiracy to set up the next episode, repeat" formula the other seasons did. I have no idea how they're going to tie that into things though.

No, there isn't, but Jack could probably detox her in 30 minutes, so it's probably just an "out" that they've built in in case they run out of ideas. But again, remember that I picked the Seahawks on Sunday...

Next week: Why do government officials always question what Jack does? He's always right and has saved the world about four times from a complete wipeout. Yet again, they do the "authority figure has Jack taken into custody to explain himself...even though each second brings the country closer and closer to complete chemical warfare.

bobobrazil1984 Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 the episode had a very 'been there done that' feeling this week (although it was awesome to see Jack go all heroic by saving the kid. Not only is he a badass killing and torturing machine, he saves kids too! Jack of all trades). The stuff with Cummings and Logan and Jack was high drama, but they haven't rebounded yet to the next cool situation. Maybe the whole 'he disobeyed Logan's order' thing will take us there.
the max Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 I'm thinking that Jack disobeying orders will give us what we wanted from the beginning of the season; Jack has to be on the run while trying to track down the canisters. On the teaser we see Jack getting arrested by Curtis (I think) and CTU Hobbit flipping out about Jack disobeying a direct order from the president. I think Curtis "accidentally" letting Jack go and letting him act on his own authority would be rather enjoyable...although that calls into question what their plans are for Kimberly.
