Special K Posted January 20, 2006 Report Posted January 20, 2006 I'd say he did a pretty good job of managing it. That was a joke. Mary Todd Lincoln was pretty nuts, though. EDIT: I was going to say that the only reason he's remembered fondly is because of the military genius of Ulysses S Grant, but I couldn't even bear to type it.
2GOLD Posted January 20, 2006 Report Posted January 20, 2006 When I went to the JFK museum (in the book suppository in Texas) They said he wins the best prez poll almost every time. Que? He's certainly one of the best speaker of all time. No doubt. And he did only associate with high-class tail, but come on. Women always say Kennedy because they wanted to fuck him and since most of the population has no clue on the name of 75% of the Presidents in our history it's not surprising he wins. Plus he has the whole dramatic death thing in his favor. And Lincoln had more important shit to worry about than whether or not his wife was swinging around the room on the curtains.
MDH257 Posted January 20, 2006 Report Posted January 20, 2006 My choice for best President would be Lincoln. My favorite response to this type of question was from Stephen Ambrose when he was asked to name the best and worst presidents of all time: "The best was Lyndon Johnson, because he told the truth about civil rights. The worst was Lyndon Johnson, because he lied about Vietnam."
Slayer Posted January 20, 2006 Report Posted January 20, 2006 Whatever happened to facial hair on our leaders. Lincoln and TR had cool facial hair. We haven't had a president with facial hair since Taft (almost a century). Come on!
kkktookmybabyaway Posted January 20, 2006 Report Posted January 20, 2006 Enough of this hippie list. How about doing Top 10 U.S. Presidential runner-ups in history? And you can't pick incumbents who lost or those goofy niche Parties, like Workers-for-Social-Democracy-and-Fresh-Twinkies.
Zorin Industries Posted January 20, 2006 Report Posted January 20, 2006 I don't know enough to make an actual list but I find both Washington and Jefferson to be endlessly fascinating men. Actually you can add Franklin as another man I admire, although not a President. Fscinating men with a fascinating idea, just a shame their vision of America hasn't been followed through to the present day IMHO
kkktookmybabyaway Posted January 20, 2006 Report Posted January 20, 2006 Yeah. Thanks a lot liberal courts.

Special K Posted January 20, 2006 Report Posted January 20, 2006 And Lincoln had more important shit to worry about than whether or not his wife was swinging around the room on the curtains. GOD DAMN IT. I was KIDDING.
snuffbox Posted January 20, 2006 Report Posted January 20, 2006 2. William Jennings Bryan 3. Adlai Stevenson
Slayer Posted January 20, 2006 Report Posted January 20, 2006 The Minnesota Vikings and Buffalo Bills of Presidential Candidates
Zorin Industries Posted January 20, 2006 Report Posted January 20, 2006 I find it a pity that Floyd Olsen died of cancer before he could get to Congress and make his mark. Granted his chance of becoming President was around zero, but I still liked what he did when he was governer of Minnesota
kkktookmybabyaway Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 No. In the spirit of compromising he would have at least given me back my left cheek and brown eye. Wimpy bitch. I feel bad for Dewey because the mainstreamliberalpress toyed with his feelings by running those mean headlines, making him think he had won.
The Czech Republic Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 Alf Landon "Little House On Melmac"
SuperJerk Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 I feel bad for Dewey because the mainstreamliberalpress toyed with his feelings by running those mean headlines, making him think he had won. Most historians agree that Dewey had no actual feelings, so your sentiment is wasted.
snuffbox Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 Could Robert Taft be considered a runner up? He was a pretty important political figure but lost the Republican nomination to Ike in the 50s. These modern day Republicans are so far removed from the values/morals of Taft and, moreso, Goldwater that its stunning. I wonder how good Nixon's legacy would look if really had made good on his 'kicking around' pledge in 1962...
The Czech Republic Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 My history professor said today that Truman was a much better president than Roosevelt, so I like him.
snuffbox Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 My old history professor was a 60 year old that got all hopped up on Revolutions and such and started jumping up and down on chairs and tables. It was an 8am class but I never once fell asleep.
Art Sandusky Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 My history professor said today that Truman was a much better president than Roosevelt, so I like him. So explain the beef with Roosevelt. I want to hear what made him so awful from a real conservative.
The Czech Republic Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 I wouldn't call him a conservative yet, I've only had him for a week. He seems to be pretty unbiased from what I can tell. At any rate, he just told us how unprofessional it was for Roosevelt to never once brief Truman about the bomb. I guess he just likes Truman's take-no-shit philosophy. I'll ask him to go more in-depth on that before class on Monday morning; he's not one to really get into dialogues during the class period yet.
Vampiro69 Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 Henry Clay owns your asses. Damn right that Clay gets some respect. When I think of men that should have been president his name comes to mind immediately, along with John C. Calhoun, and the Buffalo Bills of runner ups William Jennings Bryan. clay was great beacuse he was such a pain in the ass to Andrew Jackson. Top Presidents 1. Lincoln 2. George Washington 3. James Monroe (totally underrated) 4. FDR 5. Woodrow Wilson 6. Teddy Roosevelt 7. James K. Polk 8. Richard Nixon- did alot, but now only remembered for Watergate
Nighthawk Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 Psychologists have posthumously concluded that William Jennings Bryan was most likely a psychopath.
Vampiro69 Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 Yet William Jennings Bryan kept getting nominated. At least he was the winning lawyer in the Scopes-Monkey trial.
