AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2006 A new Capcom compilation comes, another one hits retail, DMC SE hits today/tomorrow... And MMAC Advance still hasn't been released. Regardless--don't screw us out of extras this time, capcom http://1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3147406 Street Fighter Alpha Anthology Coming Capcom loves dishing out the compilations. by Patrick Klepek, 01/24/2006 Fighting fans have got to be in Street Fighter heaven lately. Coming just weeks after the announcement of Street Fighter II on Xbox Live Arcade (drool), Capcom's ready to dish out a Street Fighter Alpha Anthology that tosses Street Fighter Alpha, its two sequels and Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix (aka Pocket Fighters) onto one disc. The recent move onto Xbox Live mean most players have online on the brain, but while the press release doesn't outline any online features and the compilation isn't even planned for Xbox, the game will not be released until the summer, which means Capcom could always come to their senses. Nonetheless, Street Fighter Alpha Anthology contains four main modes. Arcade, versus and survival are self-explanatory, whereas dramatic battle is an interesting new addition allowing for players to experience brutal two-on-one tag team fights. After messing with Dead or Alive 4, imagine how cool that would be, you know, online... Apparently it'll just be an offline PS2 compilation...anyone who has played any online fighter on PS2 can tell you that you wouldn't be missing that much anyway. Hopefully they'll use the arcade versions and throw in the home features. Anything on top of that is just icing. Although Alpha 1 is friggin' ancient these days, Alpha 2 is fantastic and 3's pretty good too.
Guest Tuxedo Mask Report post Posted January 25, 2006 And the original is ignored again. I know someone working on CCC said on the GameFaqs message board that Capcom isn't ashamed of it, but here is yet another compilation of Capcom/SF games that ignores it. Sure, it sucks, but it's historically important and could entertain people for a few minutes. That aside, all 3 Alphas in a comp is awesome. I was just thinking about that the other day, actually. Yeah, the original Alpha was rushed to arcades and Alpha 2 is, from a completion standpoint, is where the series begins, I'm one of those rare people that enjoy fighting games for a story and SFA was the first fighting game I played where the fighters talked about story elements before a fight, so I have nostalgia for it. I actually own SFA2 and 3 for the PS1 but I look forward to better ports (and hopefully extras) for PS2. I'm also not sure where either of those discs are at the moment. I was just gonna say something about this as well as I started reading Drew's post...for nostalgia reasons alone, they should include it SOMEWHERE...I mean it's not like it's gonna hog a lot of disc space...just throw it on somewhere. Anya 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2006 Not that interested. I already have Alpha 3 on CPS2 and have no desire to play 1 and 2 anymore. I really don't care about any Alpha anymore. Since I really got into 3rd Strike it's been difficult to play any other SF. Enough versus games, ports and collections. Make a new game already.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2006 Will SFA2 Gold be in this collection? Good question. My guess is that the version of SFA2 will have all the Gold content, at least. Enough versus games, ports and collections. Make a new game already. Yeah, bring on Final Fight Streetwise! ...closest we're going to get to a new SF for now, sadly. Anya 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2006 If the Alpha 2 is SF Zero 2 Alpha(Gold) then I would think A3 would be Alpha 3 Upper.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2006 Enough versus games, ports and collections. Make a new game already. I want a versus collection with SF vs X-Men, SF vs Marvel, SF vs Capcom!
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2006 Yeah, bring on Final Fight Streetwise! ...closest we're going to get to a new SF for now, sadly. what's that?
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2006 A 3D beat 'em up with the Final Fight name tacked on. But it's supposed to be grittier (re: not quite silly and charming as the 80's classic) and have rather tenuous connections with FF. Beat Down was an interesting failure--one that Capcom may have learned a lot from, but I'm still skeptical they can pull it off.

Thoth 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2006 Alpha 2 Gold IS in the collection. So is Alpha 2. So you get Alpha 2 and Alpha 2 Gold. Okay then.
DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2006 Should be fun.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2006 The PSP version of Alpha 3 being on the way worries me. It likely will be the superior version overall. Maybe they'll even pull features to sell the PSP version. I'm not expecting Maki and Eagle to be in the Anthology (as they are in the GBA version of A3), but if this one is basically the Upper ROM sans the home version features, I'll pass. Naked Snake 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2006 Enough versus games, ports and collections. Make a new game already. I want a versus collection with SF vs X-Men, SF vs Marvel, SF vs Capcom! Capcom doesn't have the rights to Marvel properties anymore, so that probably won't happen.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2006 Damn EA!
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2006 Actually, EA doesn't have exclusive rights to the Marvel characters for use in games. Remember that Activision has been making X-Men games at the same time the vs. Capcom games were coming out. On top of that, Marvel Nemesis and X-Men Legends 2 were released side-by-side, almost. Plus Hulk is in Total Destruction, which is a Vivendi Universal title. EA has exclusivity on producing online fighters featuring the Marvel characters, however. So Capcom could likely release those games if they paid Marvel and didn't add online play, although I'm not certain.
Rendclaw 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2006 This is good for me, because Alpha 3 was the last fighter I had a serious interest in, and even then it only lasted as long as I could complete Chun-Li's storyline. I had an obsession with beating the hell out of Juli and Juni.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2006 So what will be the next anthology from Capcom maybe a Rival School and Project Justice or Darkstalker collection?
Anya 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2006 There was already a PS2 Darkstalkers collection last year. It just didn't come out in America. If they're not going to do anything new then I want a 4th Street Fighter III game.
Pegasus Kid 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2006 I said it on SRK and I'll say it here... Has no one ever heard of MAME?
The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2006 Well, there's a group of people out there that consider emulation to be piracy and they aren't going to want anything to do with MAME. Plus, having the compilation on your home console allows you to play it with actual game controllers and with friends as well. (Of course, you could rig up an elaborate MAME setup with SuperJoyBox adapters for your favorite console controllers and/or a cabinet set-up, but we're talking about appealing to the casual gamer here.) Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2006 MAME/other emulators has glitches anyway, I'd rather have something that really does work right
Anya 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2006 You don't even need Mame. You can take it a step further and get the actual arcade versions for a reasonable price these days. For about the price of a new PS2 game you can get a CPS2 motherboard and get most of the fighters Capcom released in the 90's. The point is the convenience of having them all on PS2. BUTT 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2006 Streetwise could be good. At least it's something new. I doubt it. It's just another XTREME! beat-em-up with lots of swearing and violence.
Anya 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2006 "Another" xtreme beat em up? These days there's not many beat em ups, xtreme or not. If it's fun it's fun regardless of the story or art. I thought the ninja turtles were lame but the beat em ups were good.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2006 These days there's not many beat em ups, xtreme or not. Urban Reign Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks (okay, beat 'em up spliced with GOW) Beat Down The Warriors State of Emergency 2 DBZ Sagas That crappy subgame in Tekken 5 Rise to Honor TMNT Licensed crap like Teen Titans, Fan 4, and the Incredibles. Less recently--the Viewtiful Joes, Batman: ROST, Spike Out There's countless awful-to-good hack and slashers, though. There's dozens that are also too horrible to recall. Anya 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2006 There's also Buffy and Buffy Chaos Bleeds. But how many of those are worthy?
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2006 Easily a half-dozen or more good ones, if you define beat 'em up very strictly.
Anya 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2006 Urban Reign is good Rise to Honor is ok Shaolin Monks is ok Beat Down I haven't played The Warriors I haven't played State of Emergency 2 I haven't played. Didn't know it was a beat em up. DBZ Sagas sounds bad. That Crappy Subgame in Tekken 5 is.......crappy TMNT sucks and has the worst voice samples in the history of games Buffy is good Buffy Chaos Bleeds is ok Not a good track record. None of them even come close to the quality of the old school games. Even the "good" ones are really only good for a 3D beat em up. Anyway the point is the game could still be good even if it's "extreme", "mature" or whatever else. It's FINAL FIGHT. It's Cody and Haggar. It's Metro City. I never thought they'd actually do a new one. It has more potential to be good than most other new beat em ups. Of all people YOU should be giving it a chance even if it's extreme. Look at Warrior Within.....
