Carnival Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 So tomorrow I'm getting my left(top & bottom) wisdom teeth pulled. And the next half get pulled a week later. The dilemma I'm facing is, I've heard that if you smoke afterwards you get something known as a "dry socket" and it hurts like fuck. Well, I smoke all the time, and I'm told that I won't be able to smoke for a couple days at least. Well thats not an option! WTF am I gonna do? Anyone else face a situation like this before? Or any stories about getting wisdom teeth pulled.
Guest Princess Leena Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 I didn't know you smoke. I don't want to talk to you now. Anyway, mine were impacted when I had them pulled out. Believe me, you don't want to fuck around by putting anything yucky in your mouth before they can heal. Very bad things can happen.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 Repeating what I said about wisdom teeth from an earlier thread: Back when I was 18 or so my dentist told me that my wisdom teeth needed pulling ASAP. Now seeing the hell that my one friend was going through at the time (he looked like a freakin' chipmunk) after having this procedure performed on him, I came up with an excuse as to why I couldn't get mine pulled out. For the next year or so I kept making similar lame-ass excuses, and each time the dentists were like, "Oh you better get them pulled out." It was like if I didn't my head was going to explode or something. Anyway, about four years later I went to another practice for a basic cleaning. Toward the end of my check-up I asked the lady working on my pearly whites if my wisdom teeth needed pulling. She looked and said "They look fine to me." You may have been lied to...

Red Baron Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 You wont want to eat mashed potatoes for a long time after you can eat solid food again. The drugs they give you though are nice.

Toward the end of my check-up I asked the lady working on my pearly whites if my wisdom teeth needed pulling. She looked and said "They look fine to me." You may have been lied to... I had a similar experience a year ago. I went to a dentist for a cleaning and checkup. He showed me an x-ray, and told me that I desperately needed 3 of my wisdom teeth pulled, and the 4th pulled no later than a week after the first 3. To make a long story short, I went to my parent's dentist and got his opinion. He told me that one day, years from now, I may have to get 1 of them pulled, but he saw no other problems. Always get a second opinion on these kinds of things. You never know when someone may be blowing smoke up your ass so they can buy that new gold-plated pool cabana at the end of the month.
Carnival Posted February 1, 2006 Author Report Posted February 1, 2006 So I've been reading up on this "dry socket" and it occurs when the blood clots and then the clot gets dislodged. Most common from drinking through a straw or smoking. So it's the sucking action, and not the smoke. thank the tobacco gods! But that does mean, Lushus you can't come over Thursday night.
Carnival Posted February 1, 2006 Author Report Posted February 1, 2006 I didn't know you smoke. I don't want to talk to you now. That implies that you wanted to talk to me in the first place. If you hate smoke...just remember..I don't smoke with my penis. dammit! God! You are SOOO GAY!
Black Lushus Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 I smoke penis. edited for accuracy
Lil' Bitch Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 Almost everybody I know has had their wisdom teeth pulled. I've also had mine removed because the dentist usually says "wisdom teeth growing in can push and mess up the alignment of your teeth". So I had the surgery, hurt like fucking Hell when I woke up, couldn't eat anything for a week or two, but I was fine after that. Apparantly, wisdom teeth (much like the appendix) are useless.
Spaceman Spiff Posted February 2, 2006 Report Posted February 2, 2006 I've still got mine. They just sealed them. Hooray.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted February 2, 2006 Report Posted February 2, 2006 I got both top ones yanked and lit up immediately outside the dentist office with no trouble. I hate dentistry in general, though, and don't go unless I'm in acute physical pain.
Matt Young Posted February 2, 2006 Report Posted February 2, 2006 Man, when I got mine removed, I didn't even smoke, and I got dry sockets. The pain is bad enough, but they stick this nasty shit in there that tastes like straight ass. Good luck.
Carnival Posted February 2, 2006 Author Report Posted February 2, 2006 AH, FUCK I'm freaking out. I hate the god damned dentist.
Nighthawk Posted February 2, 2006 Report Posted February 2, 2006 Three of mine are gone, but the last is so corroded they can't get it without oral surgery, which I can't afford. So I have to dig out the cavity after meals, but it's not so bad. My advice is to intentionally give yourself dry socket after the first pair. The pain will be bad enough that you won't even be tempted to smoke after the second.
Black Lushus Posted February 2, 2006 Report Posted February 2, 2006 ah suck it up and get it done, puss bar!
Carnival Posted February 2, 2006 Author Report Posted February 2, 2006 The time has come to go get mutilated. It doesn't help that this is what my dentist looks like. I hope he doesn't start rambling about King Soloman's diamond mines.
Carnival Posted February 2, 2006 Author Report Posted February 2, 2006 Well, it feels like consumed a couple 8 balls, I can't feel shit. I smoked instantly.
Guest Haiku Posted February 3, 2006 Report Posted February 3, 2006 I had wisdom teeth. All four of them were pulled out. I got painkillers!
Guest Danny Dubya v 2.0 Posted February 3, 2006 Report Posted February 3, 2006 Eh. Had to do this last summer, didn't hurt nearly as much as I thought it would. I thought I'd be put under during the surgery, but the sedatives didn't work on me for some reason.
FroGG_NeaL Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 Just still cotton balls in the open sockets when you smoke, it worked for me.
Sideburnious Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 The time has come to go get mutilated. It doesn't help that this is what my dentist looks like. I hope he doesn't start rambling about King Soloman's diamond mines. Top marks for the congo reference, its all me and my friends reference in college "Wieelll you stup eating my siesemee cake!!!"
Sideburnious Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 Our favourite is "Amy. Want. Raindrop. Drink!" Like you couldnt teach the monkey water, one of the most important elements on the planet, you have to go teach her the sign language for "raindrop drink"
Carnival Posted February 8, 2006 Author Report Posted February 8, 2006 So I may have a dry socket. This kinda started yesterday, just a small ache, it's a little worse of an ache today. and i look in my mouth and it's just a hole where my tooth used to be. i'm really not sure, but i figured it would hurt way worse.
Nighthawk Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 Tell you what, in my experience, if you had dry socket, you'd know for sure. Third worst pain I've experienced, after a dislocated knee and a kick square in the balls.
Carnival Posted February 16, 2006 Author Report Posted February 16, 2006 ya i don't think i had one, i go in tomorrow for round 2.
