Special K 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2006 Have fun here in Seattle, Hoff. I've heard there's a way I can deduct my student loans, which means at least a $1200 tax return. Bananas and blow, here I come!

CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2006 Deductions for my wife's medical expenses should have us somewhere in the $2000 range. Which is almost enough to pay for our trip to Vegas in 2 weeks.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted February 13, 2006 I owe 1300 dollars between state and federal. Apparently despite being laid off and living off the 22k for I made in 7 months for the whole year, and already paying 3k of that in taxes, the goverment feels that 14 dollars a month is more than enough to live off of. I need some fucking deductions. This is what you get for paying off your student loans.

Stephen Joseph 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2006 Its funny Everyone's happy to get a refund, but the government doesnt refund you the interest or equity you wouldve earned, or properly discount the value of a dollar then versus a dollar now Sorry, but if you're getting a refund, the government shafted you this year. kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted February 15, 2006 Its funny ... Everyone's happy to get a refund... Ahem. $2100 -- damnit, that could have been an extra $40 a week for the both of us this past year.
Slayer 0 Report post Posted February 15, 2006 Also, like you said earlier in the thread Congrats you all for giving Uncle Sam an interest-free loan. Which means you get it. When I was 16, I got my first job as a clerk for a group of financial advisors. One time I saw them going over their taxes and saw that they owed a bunch of money to the gov't, I asked "well why don't you just overpay so you get money back at the end of the year." The response was "Because the government doesn't pay interest", so I had hammered into my head early that refunds aren't the godsend people make them out to be. MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted February 15, 2006 I suppose for some people, getting $1500 all at once is better than having about $50 extra each paycheck cause they would probably blow the $50 a week if they had it, but unless you are going to put the money into a savings account or something when you get your refund, I dont see how thats better. You should just set it up so you stop over paying, get a savings account that automatically takes out the $50 each paycheck and it would be the same thing. Plus, I dont think I would be as prone to going out and blowing the $1000 all at once like most people do with their refund. Is anyone really surprised that Americans aren't saving any money anymore? Stephen Joseph 0 Report post Posted February 15, 2006 Okay, I would like to amend what I said, and exclude both Slayer and KKK Sorry.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted February 15, 2006 I get it also. Unfortunately, my wife doesn't, and overcontributes on every cheque because she's scared to death she's going to get hit with some huge tax bill in April. I've given up trying to convince her otherwise.
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted February 15, 2006 I'm in the same boat Chris is in, which is kinda good though, because now I get reduced taxes during the year and I get a chunk of the better half's refund because we file jointly.
