Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted March 29, 2006 Kinda looks like Lita with that windup. And ESPN is already admitting to dedicating entire future shows to Bonds. Oh goody. Excitement is growing for the D-Backs, because they have Tony Clark, or something. And some Young guy is supposed to be great. This team has no hosses. And far too many skinny white guys like Green and Counsell and that ugly OF from Oakland.

And far too many skinny white guys like Green and Counsell and that ugly OF from Oakland. Chris Young, whom Baseball Prospectus hailed as the best center field prospect in baseball. Really, the Diamondbacks have a great number of position prospects coming up. Carlos Quintan, Conor Jackson, Chris Young, Stephen Drew and Melvin Upton are all in the system. Upton's gotten more hype as any player in recent memory before he even plays a professional game.
Mik 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2006 Too bad he broke his hand in winter workouts. He's gonna be awesome, though. Easily worth Javy Vasquez. Arizona is gonna be scary good. Justin Upton is the next coming of Griffey. All of the players Al mentioned are great, and look for Carlos Gonzalez to make the jump from good prospect to ELITE prospect this year. I know...prospects, prospects, but they are stocked with a lot of sure bets.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2006 The Nationals' effort to finish below the Florida Marlins continues. Yesterday they demoted Ryan Church. What's truly maddening is that Church is the best outfielder on the entire team. He's better than Soriano, Brandon Watson, Marlon Byrd, Daryle Ward, and possibly Jose Guillen. Brandon Watson is now the starting center fielder. Watson boasts a minor league resume featuring six home runs in 732 games. This team has now taken the league's worst offense from last year and dumped two of their only productive players (Church and Brad Wilkerson). I can appreciate the effort to add speed, but it doesn't help when you don't carry any hitters.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted March 30, 2006 Marlins snagged another Cubs prospect that never was, Todd Wellemeyer. He showed signs of having great stuff, but his command wasn't consistent. Perhaps he'll work that out with more regular work in Florida.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted March 30, 2006 Marlins snagged another Cubs prospect that never was, Todd Wellemeyer. He showed signs of having great stuff, but his command wasn't consistent. Perhaps he'll work that out with more regular work in Florida. Wellemeyer's entire resume consisted of a good season at the age of 24 in the pitcher friendly Florida State League. I'm surprised the Marlins made this deal because there's little to suggest Wellemeyer will be a capable pitcher in the majors. For the Cubs this is just a tidy way to clear a spot on the 40 man roster.
Vampiro69 0 Report post Posted March 30, 2006 Wellemeyer will also get the nice advantage of learning to pitch in the spacious confines of Pro Player Stadium.
The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted March 30, 2006 The Nationals' effort to finish below the Florida Marlins continues. Yesterday they demoted Ryan Church. What's truly maddening is that Church is the best outfielder on the entire team. He's better than Soriano, Brandon Watson, Marlon Byrd, Daryle Ward, and possibly Jose Guillen. Don't forget Michael Tucker. He's in the running as well. Ryan Church would make all sorts of sense for the Cardinals, given that they need a No. 2 hitter and a corner outfielder with plus defense. And the best thing is that the Cardinals have all sorts of toolsy goodies like Skip Schumaker and Aaron Miles to ship to Washington to make a deal. Maybe they could even give Junior Spivey back! The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted March 30, 2006 I think I remember reading that Church had some chemistry problems with Frank Robinson, who does seem like the kind of vindictive old crank who would do something like this, namely demoting your best outfielder to AAA instead of just ironing out the problem for the good of the club. NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted March 30, 2006 Tomorrow night the A's come here to Sacramento to play an exhibition against the River Cats....I am all over it as the Triple A stadium is approx 5 miles from my house. It is damn nice too. Girlfriend will-called our tix this morning. If the A's start piling up the runs I am going to feel obligated to stand up and shout "..iiiiiit's supposed to be an exhibition" Rocky 4 Style.

Boon 0 Report post Posted March 30, 2006 If you didn't see it, here's Julian Tavarez doing his best impression of someone who doesn't know how to throw a punch. Look at that fist. He probably punched the bullpen phone better during the '04 playoffs. Tavarez got smacked with a 10 day suspension for that. Idiot pitcher. /Peyton Manning
Failed Bridge 0 Report post Posted March 30, 2006 Watson has had a very good spring where-as Church has struggled mightily. It might work out ok.

Guest NYankees Report post Posted March 30, 2006 What was the reason behind the punch?
Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted March 30, 2006 Huckaby threw to infielder Zach Borowiak to nab Lugo. When he did, Gathright broke to the plate, forcing Tavarez to cover home. Borowiak threw to Tavarez, Gathright slid, and Tavarez tagged him (Tavarez might have gotten spiked). Tavarez then connected with a punch, and players rushed the field. Jonathan Papelbon came running out from the bullpen, and he and Papa Jack pulled Gathright out of the scrum. Devil Rays outfielder Carl Crawford and Gathright were gesturing toward the Sox dugout, but there were no other incidents (though we believe Tavarez was yelling from the dugout). In the bottom of the eighth, newly acquired Red Sox first baseman Hee-Seop Choi was plunked by Rays pitcher Wayne Franklin, and the umps warned both sides. EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2006 Red Sox are close to locking up Ortiz for an additional 4 years. That could be a bad deal by the end of the contract. There's a fine line between being David Ortiz and being Mo Vaughn.
Failed Bridge 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2006 as long as he's kept to DHing and not playing first on a regular basis then he should be fine. Big Mo refused to DH and in the end that's what ended his career (injuries sustained from playing first)
