Obviously the most intriguing matchup for me is Friday night, which I had hoped to get a ticket for, but I won't be able to get off work for it.

Artest's return to Indianapolis? Sounds pretty damn good to me. The whole not being able to get off work thing for it makes three of us, though. The Lakers-Nets game doesn't intrigue me any more though, even if it's the best matchup of the week for them.

Clippers @ Suns will prove how well both teams are really going to end up playing heading into the postseason... when does Amare officially come back?

I fucking hate these back to back's against Minnesota.

Spurs vs Suns on Friday should be good, but it sucks that it's not a nationally televised game.

I don't think LeBron's getting enough calls today. He's only taken something like 26 free throws.

Re: 2nd half MVP

Without looking at any numbers or anything, I'd go with either Pierce or Yao Ming.

EDIT: Or Gilbert Arenas.

I just saw the Sebastian Telfair "movie" on ESPN. He's obviously not doing good in the NBA. What does everyone think of him and all the hype he got? Should he have gone to college?

I believe the word overrated is appropriate here.

In college, at Louisville, he would be getting the playing time and hands on instruction from Rick Pitino that he needs to improve.

You don't get that in the nba, so you don't improve in certain fundamentals...he lacks so many skills/habits that a successful nba point guard needs.

Look at Chris Paul. There's no way you can deny he benefitted greatly from his time at Wake Forest.

But really, he doesn't do anything especially well on the NBA level. He got the NYC hype. If someone of his talent level played high school in Oregon or Montana, he might not have even been recruited to a top program, much less drafted in the 1st round out of high school.

Fortunately for players like that, NBA has the 19 year age limit...and I think it's a GOOD thing for the young players.

He's not doing horrible either. Remember, he's one of the few PGs, if any, that has made the jump from HS to the NBA. He's still only 21, and is putting up 9 and 3 in his 2nd year, which isn't bad at all. He needs to improve his shooting, and his defense. He's a great passer and can get to the rim. And remember, he went to the NBA to get his family out of the projects, so in a different scenario, he probably would have gone to Louisville. He'll be fine in the NBA.

The reason he doesn't get the playing time is not anything to do with him, but because Steve Blake has been playing really well as of late. Obviously he wasn't going to live up to all the hype he was getting...I forget which analyst it was who said they would have taken him ahead of LeBron James had they come out the same year.

He played great the 2nd half of last year, but his lack of defense is cutting his minutes under Nate McMillin. When you watch him play, you can see that he is a VERY special player at the point guard position. he will be big in the league eventually.

And like it was said, he did it to get his family money, so he is a sucess in that aspect.

It would be one thing if he got out just to hype himself. He was hyped while still in grade school from what I remember, much like LeBron was.

I wouldn;t call him overrated just yet. He has a hell of a lot to learn, yes. But all things considered, he's doing just fine as a second year player. And alfdogg hit it right on the head as far as being something of a defensive liability, and considering the kind of player Nate McMillan was back in the day, that's not going to sit well with him at all.

Given time, Telfair is going to be a good if not great player. Its going to take several summers to develop him.

All things considered, he probably made the right decision to jump straight to the NBA. I don't think that his stock would have gotten any higher from playing in college. Although he would have become a better player in the long run, his flaws would have been exposed early and often at Louisville.

Given his family situation, the Adidas contract was probably enough to sway him to jump right away.

Telfair did the right thing for one reason and one reason only, $$$$. He could have become the next Felipe Lopez had he gone to Louisville and not lived up to expectations. I think Felipe was the last "can't miss" prospect from NYC and we saw that he could in fact, and did miss in a big way. Ironically, had Felipe gone straight to the pros he would have made more money as a higher draft pick and could have gone back to get his degree 4 years later since he was out of the league that quickly anyway. Oops.

From Bill Simmons

I have an announcement to make: "Are you ready for Maggette?" has replaced "Who wants to sex Mutombo?" as my favorite NBA urban legend.

Background Info from wikipedia

"The most famous quote attribued to Mutombo is probably, "Who wants to sex Mutombo?" — a catch phrase that he allegedly developed as a pick-up line during his Georgetown days. Supposedly, the phrase stuck amid much success with it for Mutombo, and use of it has continued to this day. Although it is arguably chauvinistic, the phrase has achieved cult status among basketball fans of both genders."

Denver's rated a LITTLE too high at 7.

My girl got us some Bulls tickets against the Heat, were kinda disappointed its a matinee game. The Bulls are going to wear those Green Jerseys thats day, so maybe they'll give those away or something.
