Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted March 27, 2006 FX, has a reputation of quality dramas (The Shield, Rescue Me, Over There, Nip/Tuck) and it adds a new show to it's roster, THEIF. It debuts tommorow night at the usual Tuesday 10pm (et) timeslot that all it's dramas air on. There should be no doubt that FX has another quality show especially with a quality actor like Andre Braugher in the lead role. Hopefully, this show can gain a following similar to FX's dramatic trio of Shield, Nip/Tuck and Rescue Me. Over There, wasn't a outstanding success however. Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted March 27, 2006 FX is the absolute shit when it comes to TV now. I've liked just about everything they've done: The Shield, Nip/Tuck, Starved, Rescue Me, Over*There, Lucky... I'm definatly giving this one a shot

I've liked just about everything they've done: The Shield, Nip/Tuck, Starved, Rescue Me, Over*There, Lucky... I'm definatly giving this one a shot I forgot about Lucky, that was probably the biggest disapointment of all the shows...well, the only disapointment. Lucky didnt have the ratings and I didn't think it reached the quality of the other shows.
Guest Brian Report post Posted March 28, 2006 Was lucky the one with John Corbett? I really liked that show, felt they didn't give it enough of a chance, and that "this is a fucking cable network you can afford to let things run for a while". Anyways, reviews for this show have been varied, but it's really dark and I kinda expect that, and Andre Braugher will bring the fire.
SpikeFayeJettEdBebop 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2006 I'm lookin foward to Thief tomorrow night, and I personally enjoyed Lucky. I didn't like OverThere at all thogh.
Special K 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2006 Andre Braugher's all kinds of awesome. He was the best reason to watch Homocide (though far from the only one), and maybe my top TV drama ever. As an aside, I wonder where the hell Rescue Me's going to go. It's been very good so far, but it has quickly gone to rival Six Feet Under as an almost unbearably miserable show (not in quality, just in all the shit they throw at the characters). Remember when the show was funny?
Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2006 Yeah, they need to lighten up a little on Rescue Me.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2006 I'm lookin foward to Thief tomorrow night, and I personally enjoyed Lucky. I didn't like OverThere at all thogh. Over there got better at the end of the show when things started happening and they actually gave the characters personality. Wasn't shocked to see it cancelled, just disappointed. Kind of like when WANTED was canned on TNT, not shocked but disappointed. Same thing with Lucky, it just felt like a niche show that was going to need a few seasons to find an audience. I'd imagine Rescue Me will lighten up this season as Tommy seems to be getting his demons in order. They can't lose that dramatic fucked up edge though, it's too awesome. THIEF looks like it has great potential with an outstanding cast. Hopefully it holds together.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2006 Yeah, Rescue Me ended on a WTFM note last season. I think it's hard to go straight into comedy from that, but they'll pull it off.
Gary Floyd 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2006 I'm really looking forward to this show. Braugher is an awesome actor. Plus, Michael Rooker is on the show.
Special K 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2006 By the way, Braugher looks like he's barely aged since Homocide. Compare that to Kyle Secor (Bayliss), who was Jake Kane on Veronica Mars. I didn't even recognize him. Don't forget it's got Ann Veal!
Special K 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2006 How was Thief? I have very limited cable. (actually cheaper to have with internet) Was it good? It's Monday! I'm retarded. I'm still looking forward to this show.
Special K 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2006 Rooker is Henry, right? THERE's a guy that should've had more parts. Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer is a fucking terrifying movie. One of the best horror movies ever.

randomguy 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2006 I thought Over There was pretty good actually. I didn't really get into it during the season but they had a marathon for a couple of nights a while ago that I watched. The parts with the families/wives at home sort of brought it down. Too many characters and too many changes in location. About 15 minutes of every episode felt like it could be thrown out. For example the guy who got his legs blown off was totally disconnected from the rest of the show and cast. The parts with the soldiers in Iraq were pretty good though. naiwf 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2006 For example the guy who got his legs blown off was totally disconnected from the rest of the show and cast. Well, I think that was going to be something that was resolved in the 2nd season. Of course, they never got that far.
AlwaysPissedOff 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2006 Dug the first episode, but they really telegraphed the wife dying which kinda annoyed me. Izzy fucking up and getting kicked out was interesting, but killing him off in the first episode seemed kinda wrong as him being loose and potentially snitching on Nick and the others would have been a nice lil side story that could have slowburned to Nick eventually having to take him out to preserve the team a la Vic killing Terry on The Shield. Well, they addressed that in the season long preview where the other black dude thinks they should whack the stepdaughter because she witnessed a murder and could ID them all. Considering that's what had to be done with Izzy, he doesn't see why the rules should be different. I'm sure there will be a lot of tension in that regard. chirs3 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2006 (edited) Anybody know what song they used in the recent commercials for this show? "Mad World", by Gary Jules. I'm having a hard time seeing what this show will be like week to week, and how it can be sustained for a long time. Nip/Tuck and (to a lesser extent) The Shield carry long story arcs against a "blank of the week" kind of backdrop (I don't regularly follow Rescue Me, so I can't draw any comparisons there), but Thief looks like it's just building up to the one big job - are the next ten episodes just going to be building up to that? I'm not complaining... yet... just curious as to what kind of formula it will follow, or even if it will follow one at all. On a more positive note, this beat the everloving shit out of the Heist premier. I doubt this comes as a shock to anyone, but still. Guest Brian Report post Posted March 29, 2006 I'm hoping the Chinese thing plays off well. I was pissed because I tohught they were going to cut that out immediately when it looked like they might drop it. The whole thing came off a little too disjointed for an opening episode but there's a lot of promise. I felt that they jumped too much without really establishing the characters really well. It felt kinda rushed as a whole, which is part of what I was worried about based on the reviews, but there's a ton of potential and once things get rolling, I can see things getting really good. Does anybody know what song they used in the middle of the episode? It sounded like Bill Whithers but I'm not familiar with it.
Gary Floyd 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2006 I really liked the first episode. The girl playing the daughter (You know, she was Ann on "Arrested Development") was great. Braugher was awesome like I knew he would be, and the preview for the season at the end really has me interested. Also, it's great to see Michael Rooker again. His part in this season really seems like it will have my interest.
Special K 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2006 I thought it was quite a good premiere, not as good as those of The Shield or Rescue Me, but I'm very excited to see where this series will go. First of all, it looks like it's not like the other "OMG look how crazy this show is!" FX shows. (EDIT, not that that's necessarily a criticism) You've got a fairly moral, complex character in Braugher. The family interaction is what's going to make this show. The scenes in the hopsital were really touching and sad. Who knew Ann could act? And, of course, Braugher is just an incredible actor.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted April 1, 2006 It was a good premier, but it does seem like Braugher is holding the show together. I'm not sure if it would be good at all, if it starred an lesser actor.
Special K 0 Report post Posted April 7, 2006 Quick question: How is it that Andre Braugher isn't a fucking movie star? He is, bar-none, one of the best actors I've ever seen, he can do menacing, vulnerable, quietly intellectual and businesslike. He has PRESENCE with that voice. The only thing I haven't seen him do is play dumb, or play comedy. After Homocide (my favorite dramatic TV show) I figured he'd be huge. Hollywood's always looking for great black actors, how on earth wasn't he wasn't at the top of the list? Blows my mind.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted April 7, 2006 Maybe he just didn't want to deal with the heavy schedules that comes with being a movie actor.
Special K 0 Report post Posted April 7, 2006 If that's the case, that's cool, but I doubt it.
Special K 0 Report post Posted April 7, 2006 Well, after the tiniest bit of research, he DID want to eschew a heavy work schedule to be with his kids, which is awesome. and a little egg on my face. I still think he could have been one of the biggest movie stars in America if he had gone for it. But I'm sure he does well, and he has absolutely nothing to prove. One of Poeple's 50 sexiest men and a Shakesperian actor? Guy's a stud. I like the show quite a bit, BTW.
