Recommended Posts

wow...wasn't Proof to Eminem like Mekhi Phifer was to Rabbit?

(sorry, couldn't remember Phifer's name in 8 Mile)

Yep, pretty much. They were best friends

Yahoo News article

A prominent member of Detroit's hip-hop community was killed in a shooting at a Detroit night club early Tuesday morning.

Rapper and producer Proof, whose real name is DeShaun Holton , was one of two shooting victims at the CCC Club on east Eight Mile Road, near Gratiot Avenue, according to Detroit police.

When police arrived at the scene, the club was empty, Local 4 reported. Both victims had been taken to a hospital, according to police.

Proof was taken to St. John Holy Cross Hospital, and the second victim was taken to St. John Hospital, police said.

Both victims suffered a gunshot wound to the head, police said. Local 4 initially reported the second victim also died but has learned the 35-year-old man remains hospitalized in critical condition at St. John Hospital, according to police. His name was not released.

The rapper is a long-time friend of rap star Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers. Proof appeared in Eminem's movie "Eight Mile" as Li'l Tic, the station learned.

Police are searching for a gunman. A description was not available.

A witness was being questioned by police.

The shooting remains under investigation.

I know nothing about the fellow other than his last album had him sorta hugging a skeleton and it was called "Searching for Jerry Garcia" or something to that effect because it came out on the 10th anniversary of Jerry's death. I suppose it's a tend ironic, but anyhow, it's sad, so RIP.

Future, his nick was Future.

And this is a damn shame. Be interesting to find out what this was all about as more details surface. If they can even get details about what really happened.

It's a damn shame, him and Swifty were the only members of D12 with actual rap ability.

Proof was a crazy freestyler off the dome, even better then Em IMO.

Proof, a member of the Eminem-fronted Detroit-based hip-hop sextet D12, was killed early Tuesday morning outside a Detroit nightclub in a shooting that left another man in critical condition.

According to NBC News affiliate WDIV, Proof (real

name: DeShaun Holton) suffered a gunshot wound to the head at the CCC Club on East Eight Mile Road, near Gratiot Avenue. By the time police arrived at the scene just after 5 a.m., the club — which was operating illegally, after hours — had been cleared out, but several witnesses have come forward to discuss the incident with investigators. A spokesperson for the Detroit Police Department said only that "an altercation occurred [inside the club], and shots rang out," but would not discuss the shooting further, as the 30-year-old rapper's next of kin have not yet been notified of his murder.

Both victims (the other man's name has not been released) were transported to area hospitals; Proof was rushed to St. John Holy Cross Hospital, while the second victim, who is 35 and also sustained a gunshot to the head, was taken to St. John Hospital, where he's listed as being in critical condition. Proof was pronounced dead on arrival.

Proof, Eminem's longtime friend, appeared in the film "8 Mile" as Lil' Tic; he also served as Eminem's best man when the rapper remarried his wife Kim Mathers in January (see "Eminem Remarries Ex-Wife Kim Mathers"). Eminem filed for divorce last week.

Police are searching for the suspected gunman; a description has not been made available. Detectives have asked that anyone with any information on the shooting come forward.

MTV News will have more on this developing story throughout the day.

The rumor is the other man shot was Bizzare. I doubt it though since I'm sure that would have leaked by now if it was true.

Also

A spokesperson for the Detroit Police Department said only that "an altercation occurred [inside the club], and shots rang out," but would not discuss the shooting further, as the 30-year-old rapper's next of kin have not yet been notified of his murder.

I hope that is a typo, cause it would really sick if this hit the press before someone told his family.

I have heard the other man was Kuniva.

I can't imagine it's another member cause if this broke before his family was told, I'm pretty sure the media would have had no trouble finding out who the other person shot was.

I'm guessing it was a friend of his but I highly doubt it was another D-12 member. If it was, damn.

In a group of overwhelmingly mediocre rappers, Proof actually stood out. So it figures that he would fall victim to was probably the usual Detroit happenings, although the conspiracy theorists are probably getting warmed up.

I find it eerie that it was Proof who was portrayed as being murdered in the "Like Toy Soldiers" music video.

I really hope this was local beef bullshit. The last thing I want to hear is this was some Benzino/Murder Inc Henchmen conspiracy.

Did he and Esham ever bury their beef? I know Proof did "Apollo G's" but I never heard if Esham ever accepted it. Although I did hear that Shaggy 2 Dope from ICP had been quoted as saying the beef was over with Em and all of those guys so...

First thing I thought too.

Good old MTV. Nothing is said about the family he leaves behind and whatnot but they make sure to mention Eminem's latest happenings.

Anyways, RIP Proof :(.

Holy Shit......this fucking sucks.

Esham squashed the Beef between him and Proof. At one point Proof had a hit out on Esham.....i don't know how it was resolved but Esham said in an interview that he respects Proof and they squashed it. Proof was even scheduled to be on a track for Twiztid's new album.

wow, i can't believe this shit.

edit: Actually I read that Proof already recorded the song with Twiztid. I wonder if they will use it?

Funny...rappers make careers out of glorifying and talking about the "gangsta" lifestyle, and then when they die violently, people are surprised.

Hmmm, I always thought Proof was an average rapper until I heard How Come, where I thought his verse even outshone Eminem's.

Proof - "Kurt Kobain" - off his solo album Searching for Jerry Garcia. Great song, on my best of 2005 CD. It's a sad one..especially now. :(

I had a much longer and angrier rant to respond to this but then I chose to ignore it. That won't stop me from highlighting what you said though.
