Guest George's Box Posted May 14, 2007 Report Posted May 14, 2007 I wouldn't say it's completely irrelevant. I mean, he was working with ballplayers. This isn't some sort of Met slander, so relax.
devo Posted May 14, 2007 Report Posted May 14, 2007 Fair enough. It's just frustrating me that every article written on the guy is prefaced by how he used to be a batboy at Shea. That cover illustration's blaring insinuation doesn't help matters any either.
Guest George's Box Posted May 14, 2007 Report Posted May 14, 2007 As far as I can tell, the insinuation is that he used the networking done in his batboy days to jump-start his drug dealing days, which I never found to be out of line.
Slayer Posted May 14, 2007 Report Posted May 14, 2007 So, who'd be more fun to do lines with: Straw or Doc?
devo Posted May 14, 2007 Report Posted May 14, 2007 Gooden, without a doubt. Straw's nuts sober, I can only imagine what kinda lunatic he'd be high on crank.
Art Sandusky Posted May 14, 2007 Report Posted May 14, 2007 Besides, it's the ESPN magazine. No one gives a shit.
-DeN- Posted May 15, 2007 Report Posted May 15, 2007 Not that he's a huge presence on ESPN, but this dink is on there enough that I suppose this can go here: Â Dan Shaughnessy is really into...Dan Shaughnessy
hyperchord24 Posted May 15, 2007 Report Posted May 15, 2007 I don't know if this was ESPN's or the MLS's marketing strategy, but this whole "MLS: you're a fan, but you just don't know it yet" seems like a desperate (and not well thought out) attempt to get fans interested. It's along the lines of NBC's "if you haven't seen it, it's new to you" campaign a few years back. Not clever at all and destined to fail.
Cheech Tremendous Posted May 15, 2007 Report Posted May 15, 2007 Not that he's a huge presence on ESPN, but this dink is on there enough that I suppose this can go here:Â Dan Shaughnessy is really into...Dan Shaughnessy Not that surprising. If you've ever read a Shaughnessy article, he's notorious for trying to make himself the focal point of the story.
JustJoe2k5 Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 Some idiot on ESPN wants to make the recent NBA suspensions a race issue. "The only reason the NBA has this type of rule and MLB and the NHL doesn't is because there are more black players in the NBA." Terrible.

"The only reason the NBA has this type of rule and MLB and the NHL doesn't is because there are more black players in the NBA." Terrible. Â His head must have exploded with three straight years of white boys winning the MVP award.

Guest Smues Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 I'm really curious to know which idiot it was.
Guest Smues Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 I missed the end of PTI again with my non-Tivo despite recording until 3:31. FUCK OFF ESPN. Christ is it that hard to keep the end of PTI to that "10 minutes into SportsCenter"?
Guest George's Box Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 This isn't directed toward the Booyahs, but it's a sports media question anyway, so I'll put it here: Â Should TNT be using Steve Kerr as a commentator for broadcasts featuring the Suns, since Kerr is a minority owner of the Suns? And if they do, shouldn't they disclose this? This is especially relevant in light of the whole suspension controversy.
Guest Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 I missed the end of PTI again with my non-Tivo despite recording until 3:31. FUCK OFF ESPN. Christ is it that hard to keep the end of PTI to that "10 minutes into SportsCenter"? Do you have ESPNNews. You should try recording their broadcast, if possible.
Guest Smues Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 I thought the ESPNNews replay didn't have the happy time segment?
Guest Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 I think it does. I'll find out tomorrow. Â The only thing I hate about watching the 'News broadcast is that they have that fucking thing on the bottom that takes up 1.5th of the screen.
Guest Smues Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 Wasn't that same issue brought up a few years ago, for I think Charles Barkley, but no one cared?
The Man in Blak Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 I missed the end of PTI again with my non-Tivo despite recording until 3:31. FUCK OFF ESPN. Christ is it that hard to keep the end of PTI to that "10 minutes into SportsCenter"? Do you have ESPNNews. You should try recording their broadcast, if possible.  You could also listen to PTI in its entirety (including the Big Finish) from the podcasts available on ESPN's website:  http://sports.espn.go.com/espnradio/podcast/index  Not sure when they post the new episodes, though. I just know that they're there, along with Around The Horn and other various ESPN Radio shows.
Dobbs 3K Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 Some idiot on ESPN wants to make the recent NBA suspensions a race issue. "The only reason the NBA has this type of rule and MLB and the NHL doesn't is because there are more black players in the NBA." Terrible. Â Well, athletes in the NBA seem to act out more than athletes in MLB or NHL...

"The only reason the NBA has this type of rule and MLB and the NHL doesn't is because there are more black players in the NBA." Terrible. Â Well, athletes in the NBA seem to act out more than athletes in MLB or NHL... Â I think that it is more due to the fact the players are usually more from the inner cities rather than say football players. Hence they ran with worse crowds.
Hogan Made Wrestling Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 Some idiot on ESPN wants to make the recent NBA suspensions a race issue. "The only reason the NBA has this type of rule and MLB and the NHL doesn't is because there are more black players in the NBA." Terrible. Â Huh??? Is this guy unaware that in the NHL, any player who leaves the bench or penalty box to come on the ice and get involved in an altercation gets hit with an automatic 10 game suspension?
Mik Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 That new ESPN 60 minutes type show called ESPN Reports is going to feature Bill Simmons as the Andy Rooney rant guy at the end of the show. Â Not sure what to think.
sfaJack Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 Which is worse--when ESPN lets their TV guys write columns (i.e. John Kruk) or when they put their columnists on TV (i.e. Bill Simmons)? I'm undecided.
Guest Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 What if both benches clear? AHL in the NHL, baybee. Â You can also call up junior players that you have signed under the emergency clause.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 Which is worse--when ESPN lets their TV guys write columns (i.e. John Kruk) or when they put their columnists on TV (i.e. Bill Simmons)? I'm undecided. TV guys writing columns. The other method at least gets you an occasional Rob Neyer/Brian Kenny interview.
