ESPN sucks, so do thread closers

I wouldn't say it's completely irrelevant. I mean, he was working with ballplayers. This isn't some sort of Met slander, so relax.

Fair enough. It's just frustrating me that every article written on the guy is prefaced by how he used to be a batboy at Shea. That cover illustration's blaring insinuation doesn't help matters any either.

As far as I can tell, the insinuation is that he used the networking done in his batboy days to jump-start his drug dealing days, which I never found to be out of line.

Gooden, without a doubt. Straw's nuts sober, I can only imagine what kinda lunatic he'd be high on crank.

I don't know if this was ESPN's or the MLS's marketing strategy, but this whole "MLS: you're a fan, but you just don't know it yet" seems like a desperate (and not well thought out) attempt to get fans interested. It's along the lines of NBC's "if you haven't seen it, it's new to you" campaign a few years back. Not clever at all and destined to fail.

Some idiot on ESPN wants to make the recent NBA suspensions a race issue. "The only reason the NBA has this type of rule and MLB and the NHL doesn't is because there are more black players in the NBA." Terrible.

His head must have exploded with three straight years of white boys winning the MVP award.

I missed the end of PTI again with my non-Tivo despite recording until 3:31. FUCK OFF ESPN. Christ is it that hard to keep the end of PTI to that "10 minutes into SportsCenter"?

This isn't directed toward the Booyahs, but it's a sports media question anyway, so I'll put it here:

Should TNT be using Steve Kerr as a commentator for broadcasts featuring the Suns, since Kerr is a minority owner of the Suns? And if they do, shouldn't they disclose this? This is especially relevant in light of the whole suspension controversy.

Do you have ESPNNews. You should try recording their broadcast, if possible.

I think it does. I'll find out tomorrow.

The only thing I hate about watching the 'News broadcast is that they have that fucking thing on the bottom that takes up 1.5th of the screen.

Wasn't that same issue brought up a few years ago, for I think Charles Barkley, but no one cared?

You could also listen to PTI in its entirety (including the Big Finish) from the podcasts available on ESPN's website:

http://sports.espn.go.com/espnradio/podcast/index

Not sure when they post the new episodes, though. I just know that they're there, along with Around The Horn and other various ESPN Radio shows.

Well, athletes in the NBA seem to act out more than athletes in MLB or NHL...

I think that it is more due to the fact the players are usually more from the inner cities rather than say football players. Hence they ran with worse crowds.

Huh??? Is this guy unaware that in the NHL, any player who leaves the bench or penalty box to come on the ice and get involved in an altercation gets hit with an automatic 10 game suspension?

That new ESPN 60 minutes type show called ESPN Reports is going to feature Bill Simmons as the Andy Rooney rant guy at the end of the show.

Not sure what to think.

Which is worse--when ESPN lets their TV guys write columns (i.e. John Kruk) or when they put their columnists on TV (i.e. Bill Simmons)? I'm undecided.

What if both benches clear?

AHL in the NHL, baybee.

You can also call up junior players that you have signed under the emergency clause.

TV guys writing columns. The other method at least gets you an occasional Rob Neyer/Brian Kenny interview.
