UZI Suicide Posted May 13, 2006 Report Posted May 13, 2006 Well, Axl made it to the first Hammerstein show tonight, about 45 minutes late, but I guess that's to be expected. Setlist was.. 1. Welcome To The Jungle 2. It's So Easy 3. Mr. Brownstone 4. Better 5. Live And Let Die 6. Sweet Child of Mine 7. Patience 8. Knocking on Heaven's Door 9. Madagascar 10. Band introductions (New guitarist is Bumblefoot) 11. You Could Be Mine 12. Dizzy Reed piano solo 13. The Blues 14. Out ta Get Me 15. Bumblefoot Guitar Solo 16. November Rain 17. My Michelle (w/ Sebastian Bach) 18. Chinese Democracy 19. There Was a Time 20. IRS (Axl said: "I see you people singing the new songs. You downloaded them, fuckers!") 21. Bumblefoot Guitar Solo #2 22. Nightrain 23. Robin Fink Solo + crowd surfing 24. Paradise City Some guy named "Bumblefoot" is the new guitarist. Never heard of him, but he's another shredder like Buckethead. Best thing - Axl got rid of the oversized sports jerseys.
BUTT Posted May 13, 2006 Report Posted May 13, 2006 Were you there, dude? I was. I'm not a big fan of Sebastian Bach, but I totally marked out when he came on stage.
Use Your Illusion Posted May 13, 2006 Report Posted May 13, 2006 The Bumblefoot guy is getting massive hate on GNR boards.
BUTT Posted May 13, 2006 Report Posted May 13, 2006 He was pretty good. They were probably expecting some big name and feel let down.
Renegade Posted May 13, 2006 Report Posted May 13, 2006 Sounds like a pretty decent song list, are any reviews of the show out yet?
ZGangsta Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 Christ Axl, it's been like 5 years since Rock in Rio and you're still playing just 5 'new' songs from Chinese Democracy.
GreatWhiteNope Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 Christ Axl, it's been like 5 years since Rock in Rio and you're still playing just 5 'new' songs from Chinese Democracy. He said in Rolling Stone there's going to be 13 tracks on the album. So far we've heard 7 of those 13 tracks - Better, Catcher in The Rye, Chinese Democracy, IRS, Madagascar, The Blues and There Was a Time. I guess he's leaving the other 6 as surprises for the album.
1234-5678 Posted May 16, 2006 Author Report Posted May 16, 2006 I'm just glad I was there Friday for the only performance of "TWAT" so far. What's interesting to me if the rave reviews Robin Finck is getting so far, but to me, the guy screwed up his parts in "Patience" and "IRS" royally, leaving a bad taste in my mouth. But the show was definitely worth it, it lived up to my expectations, and Axl is still fucking awesome........sounded better live then any othe time since the late 80s.
FroGG_NeaL Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 Axl Rose showing up, and actually finishing shows? New GNR songs leaking at a somewhat decent rate? Whoa... I hope Axl really has his shit together, and GNR comes back in a big way. I've been down since day one, back when I was four years old, and Welcome To The Jungle hit MTV, and I've remained a major Axl fanboy throughout those 19 years. Also, Axl looks more and more like Raven everytime I see a new picture of him.
Neil-o-Mac Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 The Bumblefoot guy is getting massive hate on GNR boards. Damn shame - he's an absolutely tremendous guitarist, singer, producer & arranger. If they really utilise him he could be a massive asset to the band.
FroGG_NeaL Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 I don't see it. Yeah, not in those two pics, but I've seen some where they resemble each other.
UZI Suicide Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 There's a video of the first Hammerstein show. not great quality but the best available right now. Shows clips of November Rain, My Michelle, Chinese Democracy, There Was A Time and IRS.
GreatWhiteNope Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 Here's a torrent of the 5/15/2006 show (audio): http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=96001
jimmy no nose Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 There's a video of the first Hammerstein show. not great quality but the best available right now. Shows clips of November Rain, My Michelle, Chinese Democracy, There Was A Time and IRS. That video was originally much better quality, you can get it along with a clip of WTTJ and Rocket Queen from the May 14 show at http://www.newgnr.com/dloads/video/
BUTT Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 Izzy joined the band on stage at Wednesday's show, as did Kid Rock.
1234-5678 Posted May 18, 2006 Author Report Posted May 18, 2006 Axl and Kid Rock..........two of the most beloved AND hated musicians of our era. I so hope to see some sort of video clip of this.
UZI Suicide Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 Kid Rock is hated for good reason - he sucks.
tominator89 Posted May 19, 2006 Report Posted May 19, 2006 I just downloaded audio of the two shows. It's too bad I couldn't make it.
Henry Spencer Posted May 19, 2006 Report Posted May 19, 2006 Kid Rock isn't really widely beloved or hated. The vast majority ceased to give a shit about him years ago, if they ever did.
Use Your Illusion Posted May 19, 2006 Report Posted May 19, 2006 Axl looks and sounds phenomenal in those vids. He better keep his shit together until he can tour Australia.
Renegade Posted May 19, 2006 Report Posted May 19, 2006 Tickets went on sale today for a one off warm up gig at Apollo Hammersmith UK on June the 7th. It was hell to get through but I got tickets.
UZI Suicide Posted May 19, 2006 Report Posted May 19, 2006 Oh shit - California people.. G'n'R is headlining KROQ Inland Invasion on September 23.
BUTT Posted May 20, 2006 Report Posted May 20, 2006 The band played a surprise acoustic set at Rosario Dawson's birthday party last night. The set included "Used to Love Her" and "You're Crazy", both of which hadn't been played by the new band before. Also, last night, Tommy Hilfiger apparently tried to beat up Axl.
