The OAO Raw Thread for 4/17/06

Go ahead Edge, forget about Trips fucking you over 2 weeks ago and make yourself look even less credible. Crowd actually likes Cena more than they hate him, you know they're in the south.

Did you fail geography? St. Louis, is the south?

Doing a quick google search, I guess they were on the side of the Union; but Missouri sounds like a southern state name and I'm from NY, so it's technically south of me at least. And being on the same level as Kentucky it definitly seems southern to me.

Comparing Missouri and Kentucky is like apples and oranges. You're insane.

I just got home a little while ago. I'm fucking warped, so I'll make this short.

I enjoyed the show alot. The crowd stayed fairly hot throughout the night. Cena, HH, Edge, Carlito, HBK, Rey, Angle, JBL, Kane, Benoit, Lashley, Finlay, RVD and Shelton were all very over.

Cena got fairly mixed reactions.

Until Raw went off the air. HHH and Cena are laying in the ring. Cena's knocked the fuck out still, and The motherfuckin' UnderTaker comes out.

He and Cena have a pretty good match, alot better then most Cena matches lately.

Once Taker came out, the crowd basically turned on Cena completly. It was about 95% cheering for Taker. Cena got some pops here and there, but everything Taker did got a pop, and damn near everytime Cena would get anykind of advantage, he got massive, massive heel heat.

Anyway, they were on their way to a good match, Cena even sold being hit with the sledge and just having a match pretty well, then...

The big retarded fuck comes out and beats down Taker. Taker got a little offense in, but thy're really trying to get this guy over as a badass mofo.

And it seems to be working. Peeps were begging for Taker to kick dude's ass.

The Tish/ Mickie angle, which I still love, didn't go over well for the most part. Mostly Trish was getting booed and getting boring chants, show us your tits and all that, untill she revealed she started trying to fuck with Mickie's head instead of seming like Mickie had already brainfucked her. Then she kinda got over again.

On the Kiss Cam or whatever, Maria kept trying to get these two big burly dudes with Jim Niedhart beards to kiss. They weren't having it, and they came back to them a couple of times. I loves me some Maria.

When Mickie was interacting with Jack after Trish left, the crowd was popping big for her.

"You cheated on me!"

and the kick got great responses.

I don't realy understand why RVD jobbed to The SS, but whatever. Match had madd heat.

The whole Kane/TBS angle was over. When Kane got chokeslammed, you could tell folks had been wanting to see it for a minute, the pop was immense.

Charlie Fuckin' Hass makes a return, with the perfect angle to come back with. WEE are starting to take thier fuckin' whacked out booking style, and blending it with some traditional, if obvious booking, wich I think is starting to work.

Hass got a great reaction. I don't think anybody was expecting the surprise roll-up win.

Carlito was the most over after the usual favs; Cena, HH, Taker, Angle, ect.

Smackdown was fairly good this week.

Booker T and Matt Hardy had a pretty long match, which will probably edited for TV. No botches, just went too long and got a little boring at places, but if you take out time for commercials, and mybe another minute or two, and it's a fairly solid match.

I get the feeling they want all of the KOTR matches to be PPV style, so they can release a DVD of it.

The crowd was dying for BoogieMan when Booker was out.

Good match between London and Mercury, with some cool spots. Match got madd heat.

If you liked the Regal shit last week, Ho-ly Shit, wait untill you see the stuff from this week. Burchill is way over, and he got tons of vignate time, all of which we're gold.

The tag match stayed pretty hot throughout, and was my MOTN.

Randy Orton wasn't mentioned other then Recapping last week on the TitanTron, wich got major heat, with small 'Break His Ankle' chants.

...

I dunno, I'm crashing. I'll add more later.

Over all A great night, with a good crowd, and over-priced beer.

I bought a Carlito shit, first wrestling shirt I've bought since a Brahma Bull on back in 99 or 2000.

Peace.

This was easily one of the most retarded things ever done by the WWE

Agreed, and it probably won't end at Backlash.

After seeing Triple H and HBK both do the DX chop tonight, I'm thinking we could see Edge win the title at Backlash and keep it til ONS while Cena fueds with DX for a few weeks.

I hope thats the case. Edge/RVD would be a fresh match to book for the ECW ppv, have RVD beat him and then I hate to say it, but have Edge beat him the next night immediately on Raw to regain the belt. You then go to Vengeance in Charlotte two weeks later and book Flair/Edge there for the title (hell, even have Flair win it for all I care). Have Edge feuding with Flair on and off til June while also feuding with Van Dam. It makes sense. Edge is clearly the only Raw main event heel that WORKS right now - HHH is getting ridiculous pops, and Cena is getting these back and forth responses. Plus Edge/RVD could be built also on the crutch that Edge won MITB last year and now is champ, so there is a solid story to be told there in that last years MITB is taking on this years.

Meanwhile Michaels and HHH rejoin as DX, could take on Vince, Shane, and/or Cena in a feud via a double turn by Cena and HHH that likely needs to happen sooner than later. This needs to happen on a Raw soon after Backlash, leading to a HIAC grudge match at Vengeance. The seeds are CLEARLY planted for HHH/HBK reunion. Cena is clearly not working week after week in the role they are forcing down everyone's throats, it's going to need a turn, siding with the McMahons, making him some conservative sellout or something. All they now can hope for is a short heel turn by Cena can maybe re-turn him by the end of the summer so they can promote that stupid Marine movie as they want.

As for the show last night, was hit or miss but seemingly more hits than misses. The Vince promo, though, just feel completely flat to me. Boring as fuck. Payoff was ok, but how many times did we have to see that on replay later in the night?!!

Anyone notice Lillian took a really hard bump to the floor, even hitting herself (I think) on the table?

The finish of the main event was well done and totally unexpected to be honest. Edge/HHH would be a feud I would pay $$$ to see with all of the obvious heat between the two in reality, and they should really consider Edge holding the belt through the summer (maybe losing to RVD and Flair but IMMEDIATELY regaining it back from both, showing he actually ISNT a "transitional champ") and then you go with HHH/Edge either at SummerSlam or maybe even beyond that at the next Raw ppv.

How do you put HHH back w/ HBK? These 2 have spent virtually the entire time since HBK's return as blood enemies, and all of a sudden they'll pair back up? What'd be the impetus behind that move? You'd think Mr. Kayfabe HHH would see the gaping logic holes in such a reunion.

The fans calling for them to return (via the DX signs, etc) is the initial thing, from there its Vince being an ass to HHH, who then reveals that the father of Stephs baby is him, which infuriates Vince more, and via a McMahon beatdown on HHH, then guess who makes the save? You guessed it. Thats all it would really take - that or a double turn in a HHH/Cena rematch or angle, that sees Cena join McMahon and they all beat down HHH, with Michaels making the save.

'Him' being HHH or 'him' being Vince? Because I wouldn't rule either out as a storyline going by recent examples.

Yeah, well . . . you're not supposed to remember that, or my personal fav: It was all an act, we really do like each other.

Every angle that was suddenly dropped, every unexpected heel/face turn and every swerve that has ever happened in the history of professional wrestling can be explained by either of those two statements.

That's the way to completely kill credibility. It took years to properly build Kane back up as a mega heel after Austin won the title on Raw the night after the King of the Ring where Kane won it.

If Van Dam gets the title, he needs to hold it until SummerSlam at the very earliest. Otherwise, it might end up doing him more bad than good.

Whatever, he could get royally screwed out of it the day after Raw and still be able to chase for the title later in the year, against Edge again, or someone else. If he would beat Edge clean at the ECW ppv, its all good. If you ask me, he should be the token babyface to get the big title win next year at Mania, if you tease an extremely brief title win mid-2006 and then slowly build to him getting the title back at Mania.

Kane didnt have credibility in the first place because he never won the title even close to cleanly. It had nothing to do with Austin beating him the next night.

Chavo should realize WWE aren't going to use him right and even by chance they do come up with something good the fans are never going to get behind him like Eddie.

He should just ask for a trainer or agent job now and spare his body and mind.

I dunno... we should wait it out a bit and see where this goes. I mean, he was over during the Shelton match, and all he really needs is a strong story to get him over for being himself, and not for being the carrier of the Guererro torch.

Which hasn't happened in the last ten years. Chavo, has always relied on his name to get over. He had brief run in WCW after Eddie left, when he was at the top of the cruiserweight divison but it didn't amount to much. Chavo, isn't going to get over on his own, especially now.

I actually think this Chavo angle could go somewhere and be entertaining. Right now Chavo reminds me of Dean Malenko in 1998 WCW. Shelton can play the part of Jericho and taunt the man on TV every week, saying he's an embarrassment to the Guerrero family, that he ran him out of WWE. Then finally they can have Chavo Classic, Rey, or Vicki, whoever talk to Chavo and tell him he's not a disgrace, then Chavo gets renewed confidence and comes back to kick Shelton's ass and take the IC title.

RedJed, I like some of your ideas but not others. If RVD wins at ONS then he needs to have a reasonably decent first reign. We've seen with Orton (and even Edge to some degree) how a brief or crap title run can sabotage careers. I'd think Vengeance will be mostly booked anyway, so RVD can simply retain on that show. Then if they are dying to get it off him, there's SS. But losing the very next night on Raw? Why give away the title change? Why job Van Dam out that soon and hurt his credibility?

I do like the idea of RVD winning at WM next year though. Keep in mind the show will be in Detroit, so they can play on the hometown factor (RVD is from Battle Creek, but trained under the Shiek in Detroit I think).

We didn't give Jack, enough attention.

I put him in my sig. His part in that skit was just as well-done as Trish or Mickie. Of course there's the crazy bitches line, but then after that he yelled out "Somebody help me!" (which was just funny) before Trish put the tape back over his mouth. And the WTF look on his face when Mickie started to help him was good too.

Don't forget his slow-motion selling of the "Mick Kick." Gold!

WWE RAW did a 4.3 rating off hours of 4.0 and 4.6 this week. The 4.6 for the second hour is a strong number.

AM RAW did a 0.7 rating. The replay did a 1.1.

Credit: PWInsider.com

The ratings continue to be very decent, specially the second hour seems to be garnering interest lately, possibly for the 3-way feud for the WWE Title. And AM RAW, after being disregarded as a waste of time, continues to amaze with numbers that match, or sometimes surpass, TNA Impact.

A.M. Raw is usaually better then Raw. It's what I think Raw would be like if it was taped like SD.

Plus, BREAKING NEWS! at the bottom of the screen throughout the show.

Ugh. Even more reason in Vince's mind to hate the live crowds. They crapped all over that promo, and yet the ratings continue to be good. Yikes.

AM Raw is indeed some good stuff. They usually do a really good job of cutting out the useless crap and showcasing the strong points. Plus, I usually miss Smackdown and don't get to check the internet all weekend, so the little CNN text crawl thingie is actually informative to me. The perfect thing for a wrestling fan who's still awake after a long Friday night.

The live crowd were giving Vince hell, and when the HUGE Boring chants started, he saved the whole segment with his nonchalant, " I assure you this is not boring."

That, and one or two of the Photo-Shop pics were the ONLY good parts about McMahon's part of the segment.
