lomasmoney 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2006 Well, tonight is the night. Detroit needs to come out and play with some fucking intensity or be sent home packing...again. I don't understand how a team puts up the fifth most points in the history of the NHL and then turns around and gets run in the playoffs. Edmonton is just outworking Detroit and its not even close. Kenny Holland needs to dump the geezers and get some more gritty, agressive, and younger players. I'm still watching the same guys who were pushing 30 during the first Cup run trying to still play and its clear that this is a team that just isn't built to win in the playoffs. And Detroit needs to give up the Hockeytown USA shit, because Joe Louis Arena sounded like a library during game 5.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2006 Here's to hoping Calgary and Edmonton both close the series tonight. So they meet in the 2nd round! GO FLAMES GO!
Guest Report post Posted May 1, 2006 We could be watching Steve Yzerman's last game ever tonight, provided he plays. A legend in every sense of the word. If there's a Game 7, he would play, so I'm hoping the Wings win.
Zetterberg is God 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2006 As good as a Flames-Oilers matchup would be, I'm praying that Detroit puts that possbility to rest in the next few days. The veterans need to provide the grit and leadership and the young guys need to provide the offense, otherwise it's another year of disapoinment.

Being your from Calgary aswell, you know how bad Edmonton/Calgary series will be on the red mile. They better bring the army, because their will be full fledge riots. Zetterberg is God 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2006 Oh yeah, it would be nuts in this city but again, it's not the outcome I'm hoping for.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2006 Looks like they're going back to Detroit. The Wings are totally shutting the Oilers down right now.
Kismet 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2006 Man, I really like how the Oiler crowd doesn't deflate after a score against them like 90% of arenas in most sports. They go down 2-0, and it's "Let's Go Oilers", and not the stunned silence for a minute or two most places have. If the Wings can't pull off the comeback though, I eagerly look foward to an Oiler/Flames match-up.
Urban Warfare 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2006 WOW. Oilers tie it at 2.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2006 Holy shit, did I ever misjudge the Oilers. Rexall Place has gone insane.
Kismet 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2006 And yet again Pisani gets a goal as 2 Wings cover the wrong guy. Detroit doesn't deserve to win this series. Even when they play even with the Oilers, they do something like that. Edit: Now 3-2 Detroit again, as Franzen(who helped screw up on the second Oiler goal) gets it. Hell of a game regardless. Chelios and Lebda on defense are hurt.
Urban Warfare 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2006 Huge goal for Detroit. The crowd just completely died after that goal, but came up again about 30 seconds later. Edit: Edmonton ties it on a very, very ugly goal.
Kismet 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2006 One heck of a disputed goal, but end result after review is a goal. So that's what it is, no crying from me. Tied at 3, hell of a game
Urban Warfare 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2006 Meh... I thought Horcoff's stick was high, but in any event, I still don't see how that went in.
Urban Warfare 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2006 OILERS SCORE! Edit: What awful defense. That was just terrible.
Kismet 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2006 And that looks to be it. Another disappointing year for the Wings. It seems like they are honestly built for the regular season, and yet another defensive breakdown leads to a goal.
mike546 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2006 I wish I was a Oilers fan right now in that arena. What a fucking crowd.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2006 Wow. I don't think I've seen a better period of hockey this postseason. Maybe Ottawa's 3rd period in Game 1 against Tampa, but even that was against an outclassed team. The Oilers earned every bit of this win, and their fans should be proud as hell. Kismet 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2006 Well done Oilers. Can't call it a choke job, as the Oilers just took it from them. But there needs to be some turnover on the roster, get a few new parts on the team. This combo of players just can't cut it any more. Too slow in some regards, to old and soft in others, and Legace just didn't cut it either. Guess by virtue of losing to them, I will root for the Oilers now. Not eight days ago, I told my dad that it could be the 83 Wings on the ice, the Oilers would not be winning. I couldn't be more prouyd to say I was wrong. On second thought, this was the best period of hockey I remember this year. Id have been going to bed happy either way. But more happier this way

Zetterberg is God 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2006 Congrats to the Oilers. They played their asses off and earned the win, but I'm getting pretty fucking sick of giving other teams props for beating the Wings early in the playoffs. How you can blow a 2-0 lead so quickly in the third, get the lead back and lose it again is mind boggling, but all credit in the world to the Oilers for pulling it off. The Wings really need to find some younger, faster players to complement their core of young talent (ie Zetterberg and Datsyuk). Also, while Legace played decent, it was not good enough most times so a new goaltender may be needed. As much as I respect the veterans and all they've done, they simply are not cutting it anymore. Guest Report post Posted May 2, 2006 I'm not going to be able to watch Game 7 of Flames-Ducks. That fucking sucks.
packwingfn 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2006 The thing that pissed me off the most was the stupid penalty that Jason Williams took in the third. He defnitely did not need to rough the Oiler up and look they scored on that powerplay. If he didn't take that penalty, it could have been a totally different outcome. Prophet of Mike Zagurski 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2006 If I was Mike Babcock, I would have put Osgood in net for a couple of those games. He has won a Cup before. Ducks win and go on to Calgary for Game 7. After the first round is done, everyone should bump up their predictions. I know I was wrong about the Rangers and Red Wings. Fartsauce 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2006 The first thing I want to do is give credit to Steve Yzerman. Despite being an Edmonton fan, this guy has been my favourite hockey player. He has gone on the ice so many times and created results. Even tonight, with a fucked up back, he was winning battles to the puck, winning faceoffs, hitting goal posts. It was a kind of a shame that he was on the bench for the final 5 seconds. If this is indeed the end for Steve, at least it was against my favourite team. What a class act and should immediately be inducted into the hall of fame. Having said that, I haven't been so happy over a hockey game in years. I was at my buddies house tonight and despite being from Ontario, got him completely into the game. When Hemsky scored the winner not only was I jumping and screaming off the couch, but so was he. Just an absolutely awesome moment in my life. Bring on the Sharks or Flames.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2006 I just realized something...if Anaheim wins Wednesday, all of the higher seeded teams in the West will have been eliminated from the playoffs in the first round. I doubt that's ever happened in any sport that has a 16-team playoff.
