Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted March 30, 2007 I'm still trippin over the Robocop remake...I can understand forgetting that 3 existed and taking up where 2 left off (a la the Superman series), but a REMAKE? That movie still holds up well even today.
treble 0 Report post Posted March 30, 2007 I think people usually get too upset over re-makes. You can still watch the original. And I think we might be stretching by calling Teen Wolf a 'classic'.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted March 30, 2007 I'd say if it wasn't for the overwhelming amount of them this decade, it wouldn't be so bad.
treble 0 Report post Posted March 30, 2007 I mean, I can understand getting frustrated that there's not a lot of originality in Hollywood and all that, but some people go overboard. I remember when they remade Willy Wonka a few years back, some people were on here saying that they were pissing on the original by doing a re-make. No, they're just trying to make a quick buck. And usually re-makes lead to updated DVD releases of the originals, which brings those movies added exposure.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted March 30, 2007 oh I don't know man...I finally got around to watching that Wonka remake and wanted those two hours of my life back instantly. It really does piss on the classic, IMO.
treble 0 Report post Posted March 30, 2007 Alright, maybe it sucks (I haven't seen it, so I can't judge, but I'll admit it didn't look very good), but it's not as if you can't still watch the original. I don't know, maybe I don't have the same kind of attachment to movies that some other people have, but it seems that people go overboard reacting to something that they don't have to go and see. No one's forcing you to watch a re-make over the original.
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted March 30, 2007 The remake of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, I'm not sure about but I'd have to see it again. It was a lot different from the original and I didn't like some of the changes (The Oompa Loompas annoyed the hell out of me) but I was really impressed by Johnny Depp's performance for some reason. I'll have to watch it again if it comes on HBO or Showtime.
BorneAgain 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2007 I'm usually less bothered by remakes if they're using some type of source material that the original film used as well, ie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or all the versions of A Christmas Carol for example. razazteca 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2007 Dukes of Hazzard was the worst remake ever! Roscoe, Boss Hog, Uncle Jesse, were nothing like the tv characters.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted April 1, 2007 re: Charlie/Willy Wonka- Roald Dahl hated the original film, so I don't see how anyone can say the remake sucked compared to the original when the original sucked in the source material writer's opinion.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted April 1, 2007 That makes no sense. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was fucking awful, shit all over the book. If Dahl didn't like Willy Wonka, I doubt he would've liked the remake
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted April 1, 2007 It was closer to the source material. Dahl wanted a darker tone to the film, as opposed to the sing-song musical-like version that the original provided. And not that they can really speak for him, but Dahl's family said that he would have liked the remake a whole lot better than he did the original, but I guess to them, anything was an improvement over the original. bob_barron 0 Report post Posted April 1, 2007 It wasn't close to the source material AT ALL. Depp's portrayal of Willy Wonka was horrible and not in line with the character in the book. That and the book never had a horrible storyline where Wonka had daddy issues to explain his eccentricity.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted April 1, 2007 Because you speak for Dahl better than his family...
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted April 1, 2007 What are you even talking about? I've read the book many times. I've seen the movie. I can tell if the movie is close to the source material
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted April 1, 2007 No, that's not what I'm contending. I know it's not that close, but the family said it's closer than the original version. So I mean, that's their opinion and I can't really argue with it, because they'd know what Roald would have wanted more than you or I.
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2007 Thought I posted in this thread.... I think the point I was trying to make and to a lesser extent, Bob is making is...just because Roald Dahl didn't like the original doesn't mean everyone who liked the book shouldn't like the original. Call me crazy, but I liked both. I liked the original a bit more but not much.
Gary Floyd 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2007 The ATHF movie is on AS! Oh, and so is Family Guy.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2007 Gotta say that Good Hair Forever was funny as hell looking like it was a 5 generation fansub tape with subtitles that were close but not accurate and at times went on some weird tangents.
KingPK 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2007 I caught Bullrun on Spike after UFC Unleashed. Despite the fact that I have zero interest in cars and all that "gearhead" stuff, I gotta say it was a fairly entertaining hour. It's kinda like TAR if everyone drove everywhere. Ripper 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2007 I finally watched Slither last night. That was a pretty fucking good movie. so I have watched : Stranger than Fiction, Mission Impossible 3, Slither, Wickerman, Little Miss Sunshine, Blood Diamond, Lucky Number Slevin, That paul walker movie (run something or other) The Black Dahlia and Match Point all within a week. I am catching up nicely. For the record, the only movie so far I haven't liked is Black Dahlia...and well Wickerman but I loved it at the same time for being so incredibly bad. Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted April 7, 2007 Sweet mother of God was Jeremy Piven coked out of his mind on Leno last night. He was all over the place with his words and told a story about being invited back to a Professors house for dinner when he was studying theatre in London that went nowhere and at the end of it all he said was "You can't be in your own way" and Leno looked confused as fuck. Jenna Fischer, by contrast, came off as a fucking superstar. Not too many female actresses can make me laugh out loud but she's one of them.
Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted April 7, 2007 She even played off Piven pretty well given the circumstances, but yeah, Piven was zonked.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2007 Movies dubbed in spanish are the worst dubs in the history of television its ok for the average kung fu movie that I never seen but its just wrong what Telemundo does to Gov Arnold and Sly Stallone movies. King Kamala 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2007 I must be the last guy to find out that Stringer Bell (Well the guy who plays Stringer Bell, Idris Elba) is British. I'm in shock right now for some reason. And I thought I was surprised when I found out McNulty was British.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2007 the best line ever for The Wire is when McNulty goes undercover to the brothel and before he goes in, they ask him to do his "fake" british accent which they comment on as being horrible! Coincidentally, Mark Wahlberg also tells him (Dominic West) he's doing a lame impression of a british rock star over the phone in Rock Star.
