Ripper 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2008 Random thoughts. Sylvester Stallone is going to be one of the more underrated actors of this generation. Last Action Hero is a criminally underrated movie.
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2008 Hell yeah on the latter random thought. I don't see why it catches so much flak but it really is a damn good parody of 80s action movies. I really don't know why that movie isn't one of the most beloved Schwarzenegger movies.

I really don't know why that movie isn't one of the most beloved Schwarzenegger movies. It's an alright parody for sure, but the script seemed a bit muddled and all over the place, got the impression is was a rush job of a film to just make a quick buck for the most part. I always thought it was fun to watch, but underrated? Nah, its just "there." Neither really bad, nor really great either. Calling Sly one of the underrated actors of our generation is ridiculous. 2GOLD 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2008 You know what? As bad as HOUSE OF THE DEAD one was, there is almost NOTHING on this planet as bad as HOUSE OF THE DEAD 2. Holy CRAP was that a bad film! It made Uwe Boll seem like James Cameron.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2008 That's funny, because I thought it was pretty decent. It didn't have constant shots of the video game, lame-as-fuck "bullet time" effects, and there weren't any decent actors that had to lower themselves by being in the movie. It also had a couple interesting ideas ( mostly the mosquitoes transmitting the zombie virus ), but overall it was a piece of shit. Not Zombie Chronicles or Dead Life bad, but not even as good as the Resident Evil flicks.
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2008 Magic ticket my ass, McBain. Other than that, LAH is top shelf. Tom Noonan was great in it. Also, Sly is an underrated actor. His dramatic chops are far more noteworthy than his reputation as an action hero would indicatate.

Scroby 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2008 Tonight..I'm going to be seeing the Sex in the City movie. I feel so ashamed. I'm very excited to see it, but I have to wait till Tuesday for various reasons. I just hope it doesn't piss on the show, but I'm optimistic that all the reviews say it's for the fans only I've never been a fan of the show. I watched a few episodes years ago when a girl I was kinda seeing popped in a dvd...I honestly didn't pay attention. I really have no desire to see the movie either, but a few of the girls from my cast was going to go and my director (who dates one of the girls) decided to tag along as well and asked me to come along as well....Luckily for me it was sold out, both 10:10 movie showings. Everyone else bought their tickets online so my diretor got stuck seeing it..I went home and watched National Tresure 2. Which is decent at best.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2008 They had a piece on the news last night about 8 soccer moms that were dressed up like it was a Homecoming dance, drinking wine and heading over to a local theater to see Sex and the City. Some of the moms weren't too bad, actually.
EricMM 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2008 Venture Bros. Season 3 Promo-This season, they promise to put out. Featuring Henry Killinger (Think Henry Kissinger meets Mary Poppins), Hunter Gatherer (Hunter S. Thompson meets Nick Fury), and the best parody of G.I. Joe I've ever seen. So the new ep is on adultswim.com now. Very Monarch heavy. Not too much comedy. Awesome. I'm so glad they're back.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2008 Sex and the City having a 65 million opening weekend is insane. I had it pegged for about 45 million at best

RedJed 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2008 Anyone else here seen the second Narnia yet? I went to it today and, other than the four three year olds running around the theater with their parents sitting there most of the entire time like dolts, it was pretty solid. I never read anything past the Lion Witch and Wardrobe when I was younger, so didn't know what to expect here. Had much more of a Lord of the Rings medieval battle epic vibe than the first film, and much darker all around. Felt more PG-13 than what is was rated (PG)......as it goes, the fucking little rugrats I mentioned earlier were getting scared at times, crying, running out of the theater, etc, on and off the entire film. Probably my worst theater experience ever having to deal with that shit, although I still was able to enjoy the movie at the same time. Checking out The Strangers tomorrow.... RepoMan 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2008 I was never that into it, but Sex in the City is really good for a chick show. If I had a GF the only thing that would make me warry of seeing it is the 2.5 hour run time and that I'm paying $9 a ticket for just a really long TV episode. The parody section of the movie was just pure genius. It was incredibly well written. The "escape into the real world" half also was very strong, and fun dark realism. I like the fact that technically the hero died, only he was saved by getting back into silly movie world. I personally can't find a single thing wrong with that movie for what it is. A parody of a genre. They did it very well. As for Sly, people all say he is a shitty actor. he did a incredible job in First Blood (sure, some of the dialogue was bad, but his acting was amazing), the first Rocky (people underplay his performance there because they like to pretend he was just acting like Stallone) and of course everyone knows about his performace in Copland. Even something like that horrid Get Carter movie. the movie sucked for every reason except his acting. He gets punished for A: The sheer number of shitty movies he has done and B: They are action movies. But he has churned out quite a few amazing perfomances for a guy that people like to lump with the Paul Walker, Keanu Reeves of the world.
Cran Da Maniac 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2008 Ripper, glad to see somebody else agrees with my sentiments on Last Action Hero. Everybody that says it's bad doesn't see the parody of what it is.
Scroby 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2008 They had a piece on the news last night about 8 soccer moms that were dressed up like it was a Homecoming dance, drinking wine and heading over to a local theater to see Sex and the City. Some of the moms weren't too bad, actually. Yup, that was happening at the theater I went as well. The girls that I was going to see the movie with dressed up nicely and were drinking cosmos at the bar across the way, there were women dressed up all fancy like, some you could tell were trying to hard. It was kinda surreal seeing it happen, it was like seeing a woman's verison of the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2008 I still don't see the allure of dressing up as if you were a character from whatever movie you're going to see. ...that is, unless Ghostbusters 3 somehow DOES get made...then you best believe the homemade proton pack I did for Halloween (that I still have saved at my folks' house) is coming out with me. My girlfriend and/or friends will never look at me the same way again. Kinda like when I painted a bad skull onto my face to see the Misfits one time... Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2008 I'm doing it for Dark Knight. But it's really kind of the easiest way to segue into fucking my girlfriend as the Joker while she's dressed as Harley Quinn. Now that's hot! Unrelated to that, I think is cool.
RedJed 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2008 Also, Teeth fucking sucked. Don't bother with it. i saw this a couple weekends ago, loved it. some of the family subplot stuff was admittedly half-baked and awful, but the slow-burn pacing was perfect and made those funny touches even funnier (the doctor examination, the nuclear power plant that sits right behind the house in every shot). I couldn't tell if the power plant thing was there for humorous purposes or not, which just made me dislike it more. Yeah, I didnt like it much. It was trying for a half twisted dark comedy vibe and the other half seemed like this was some "coming of age" feminism NOW! type deal as well. I dunno, the movie just dragged and it just didn't click for me. I felt like I was watching an afterschool special some of the times, and then it does a total 180 and we see graphic mutilation scenes. I have to say the ending was so tongue in cheek and over the top though, I chuckled. The power plant shit, to me, was supposed to explain how she got teeth in her twat somehow, I dunno? What I didn't get was how she could control "it." Because she was high and drunk?

DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2008 I didn't realize there was an issue going on but apparently an issue with The Simpsons voice cast has been resolved and they'll be going into work (or already went into work...) on Tuesday for $400,000 per episode... BUT due to some last minute snag Harry Shearer was not part of that deal and his status is unknown. That would suck if they lost him but I assume the deal will be worked out to include him.
