I just don't think it'll get any nods besides the technical ones, wardrobe, and make-up. Cate will probably get a nod, I don't think there's anything else with her this year... so they'll toss her a nod.

Oh man, I went to go see Evil Dead: The Musical last night for my birthday, and it's fucking AWESOME. It's not JUST for ED fanboys(although obviously it helps) because I went with someone who's never seen any of the movies, and she thought it was great as well. You can't go into it expecting a faithful retelling of the movies, as it's really them mixing up the storylines of the first 2 movies for comedic effect, along with lines from AOD randomly thrown in.

 

But what it did do, was be fucking hilarious. Hell, I think the intermission was the only time I stopped laughing for more than 10-15 seconds at a time. Scotty was the best character in the whole damn play, and I loved how they basically turned Scotty and Ash into a gay couple.

 

 

Either way: if you have an opportunity to see it, don't think twice. Just go.

Scream (the horror network in Canada) was showing Nightmare 4, 5, and 6 the other day (I guess showing the good ones - 1 and 3 - was not an option, but they were running New Nightmare a lot). Odd note about the digital guide description for "Freddy's Dead" - it actually lists the title as NOES 6 and notes in the synopsis "Formerly known as Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare". I didn't realize it was FORMERLY known as that. Perhaps I should be on the look out for New Nightmare being called "NOES 7 - Formerly known as New Nightmare".

Sam Mendes will direct a bigscreen adaptation of the supernatural graphic novel "Preacher" for Columbia Pictures.

 

Created by writer Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon, graphic novel focuses on the preacher of a Texas town, who is struggling to get by and is driven only by his strong moral sense. When the city is decimated by an otherworldly force, he embarks on a journey across the country to take on the evil.

 

Supernatural project is a departure for Mendes, who is best known for tackling suburban angst in such films as "American Beauty" and the upcoming Leonardo DiCaprio-Kate Winslet starrer "Revolutionary Road."

 

But Mendes isn’t new to the world of comicbooks: His drama "Road to Perdition" was also adapted from a graphic novel.

 

Neal Moritz ("I Am Legend") is producing through his Sony-based Original Film banner alongside Kickstart Prods.’ Jason Netter ("Wanted"). Ken Levin and Ori Marmur exec produce.

 

Columbia is also developing another Ennis comicbook, "The Boys," which Moritz and Netter are producing together.

 

The 75-issue "Preacher" series, which ran from 1995-2000, has been lauded with numerous kudos, including four Eisner Awards.

The good news is creator Mike Judge has a new animated sitcom, ABC’s “The Goode Family,” launching on ABC shortly just as “King” finishes up.

 

In the meantime, Fox will be airing three animated sitcoms from Seth MacFarlane: “Family Guy,” “American Dad” and “The Cleveland Show.”

That's an impressive run for a show that supposed to have been cancelled in 2005 or so. They really seemed to be running out of steam with Cotton dying last season so this is fine.

I've been on a horror movie binge-well was, since October is over, and here's some of the stuff I watched (warning, may be tl;dr)

 

Dance of the Dead: I liked this a lot more than I thought I would, though it could have done without the crappy music (except for the Andrew WK song.) It's a whole lot of goffy, suprisingly lighthearted fun, that's actually a breath of fresh air. Justin Welborn (from "The Signal") steals the show as a mohawked redneck whose also a backyard wrestler. This has potential for a "Night of the Creeps"/"Night of the Comet" style cult following. 8/0

 

Pieces: I love this movie. It's not good by any means. Hell, for the most part, it's unintentionally hilarous. That's why I love it though. People who think horror is too misogynistic should stay clear, but other than that, it's a hoot. Oh, and "BASTARD!" 8/10

Necroville: Um, no. Basically a horror/comedy from a bunch of guys who watch way too much Kevin Smith, this is just a bad movie that tries too hard to be like their idol, and fails. Oh yeah, there's an amusing moment here and there, but other than that, no. 2/10.

The Devil's Chair: It's gory, and has some originality, but it's also a pretty dull movie, and doesn't live up to it's initial premise. A shame really, as it had potential, though it's better than the director's last movie "Broken." 4/10

 

Stuck: Oh man, see this. It's from Stuart Gordon, and it's a great horror movie/dark comedy. Oh, and it has Mena Suvari naked. 9/10.

 

Zombie Strippers: Ok, first the good news: This isn't unwatchable. Hell, it's actually not the sub par Troma rehash I feared it would be, and it's got some great zombies, and Robert Englund is a hoot. That out of the way, it's nothing spectacular either, a lot of the jokes tank, and it's pretty much a "watch if there's nothing on" type of movie. 6/10

Zombies! Zombies! Zombies!: Strippers vs. Zombies: This however, is a low rent Troma rehash, in spite of a few chuckle worthy moments. Also, enough with referencing "Snakes in a Plane" people. 3/10 because unlike "Necroville", it has an awesome line: "Them ain't crackwhores, them bitches is crackwhore zombies!"

 

Trailer Park of Terror: This is a hoot from start to finish. It's nothing too original, but it's a great take on Redneck style horror, a really fun performance from Nicole Hiltz, a killer asian masseuse, zombies, and much more. 8/10
