I mean, I can understand getting frustrated that there's not a lot of originality in Hollywood and all that, but some people go overboard. I remember when they remade Willy Wonka a few years back, some people were on here saying that they were pissing on the original by doing a re-make. No, they're just trying to make a quick buck.

And usually re-makes lead to updated DVD releases of the originals, which brings those movies added exposure.

Alright, maybe it sucks (I haven't seen it, so I can't judge, but I'll admit it didn't look very good), but it's not as if you can't still watch the original. I don't know, maybe I don't have the same kind of attachment to movies that some other people have, but it seems that people go overboard reacting to something that they don't have to go and see. No one's forcing you to watch a re-make over the original.

The remake of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, I'm not sure about but I'd have to see it again. It was a lot different from the original and I didn't like some of the changes (The Oompa Loompas annoyed the hell out of me) but I was really impressed by Johnny Depp's performance for some reason.

I'll have to watch it again if it comes on HBO or Showtime.

I'm usually less bothered by remakes if they're using some type of source material that the original film used as well, ie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or all the versions of A Christmas Carol for example.

It was closer to the source material. Dahl wanted a darker tone to the film, as opposed to the sing-song musical-like version that the original provided. And not that they can really speak for him, but Dahl's family said that he would have liked the remake a whole lot better than he did the original, but I guess to them, anything was an improvement over the original.

It wasn't close to the source material AT ALL.

Depp's portrayal of Willy Wonka was horrible and not in line with the character in the book. That and the book never had a horrible storyline where Wonka had daddy issues to explain his eccentricity.

No, that's not what I'm contending. I know it's not that close, but the family said it's closer than the original version. So I mean, that's their opinion and I can't really argue with it, because they'd know what Roald would have wanted more than you or I.

Thought I posted in this thread....

I think the point I was trying to make and to a lesser extent, Bob is making is...just because Roald Dahl didn't like the original doesn't mean everyone who liked the book shouldn't like the original.

Call me crazy, but I liked both. I liked the original a bit more but not much.

The ATHF movie is on AS!

Oh, and so is Family Guy.

Gotta say that Good Hair Forever was funny as hell looking like it was a 5 generation fansub tape with subtitles that were close but not accurate and at times went on some weird tangents.

I caught Bullrun on Spike after UFC Unleashed. Despite the fact that I have zero interest in cars and all that "gearhead" stuff, I gotta say it was a fairly entertaining hour. It's kinda like TAR if everyone drove everywhere.

I finally watched Slither last night. That was a pretty fucking good movie.

so I have watched : Stranger than Fiction, Mission Impossible 3, Slither, Wickerman, Little Miss Sunshine, Blood Diamond, Lucky Number Slevin, That paul walker movie (run something or other) The Black Dahlia and Match Point all within a week. I am catching up nicely.

For the record, the only movie so far I haven't liked is Black Dahlia...and well Wickerman but I loved it at the same time for being so incredibly bad.

Sweet mother of God was Jeremy Piven coked out of his mind on Leno last night. He was all over the place with his words and told a story about being invited back to a Professors house for dinner when he was studying theatre in London that went nowhere and at the end of it all he said was "You can't be in your own way" and Leno looked confused as fuck.

Jenna Fischer, by contrast, came off as a fucking superstar. Not too many female actresses can make me laugh out loud but she's one of them.

Movies dubbed in spanish are the worst dubs in the history of television its ok for the average kung fu movie that I never seen but its just wrong what Telemundo does to Gov Arnold and Sly Stallone movies.

I must be the last guy to find out that Stringer Bell (Well the guy who plays Stringer Bell, Idris Elba) is British.

I'm in shock right now for some reason. And I thought I was surprised when I found out McNulty was British.

the best line ever for The Wire is when McNulty goes undercover to the brothel and before he goes in, they ask him to do his "fake" british accent which they comment on as being horrible!

Coincidentally, Mark Wahlberg also tells him (Dominic West) he's doing a lame impression of a british rock star over the phone in Rock Star.
