Mission Impossible 3

Recommended Posts

Well, this is it, Friday kicks off the Summer Movie Season, and when the dusts settles, this will probobly end up beign the #2 box office draw behind X-Men. I saw it tonight, and it was pretty good for what it was. It's pretty brainless, and in fact if you attempt to really put any thought or logic into it, you're going to end up with a pretty big migraine. The big action sequences defenitly live up, but I felt the story may have been a little too convoluted for it's own good, by the end I had some difficulty discerning who was good and who was bad. The ending was a pretty big cop out too, but I guess a movie like this can't have any big twists. Phillip Seymour Hoffman did a decent job as the villain, but I just can see a guy like him really playing a credible bad guy. He's just kid of fat and smarmy. Tom Cruise did a great job as well, as crazy as he may be, he may be one of the most consistant actors in Hollywood today, so I give him props for that. Overall, it's definitely worth your money this weekend, but I'm more enthused for X-Men and Superman.

Superman and Da Vinci will do better than MI.

Superman Im not so sure, it'll make a lot of money, and has the benefit of of that July 4th weekend, but the majority of the actors are reletive unknowns, and the buzz on the film has been pretty minimal. We'll see. I actually think Da Vinci Code will be the big bust of the summer, the advertising campaign and trailers have been pretty cryptic, and don't really seem to be too appealing to film audiences. I'm not sure whether or not all the controversy sorrounding the film will help or hurt, but I just can't see the average movie fan sitting through this, it seems to appeal more to the older crowd that may not attend the movies as much. I think it'll do well it's first weekend, but then get swallowed up afterwards.

Tom Cruise consistently plays Tom Cruise. So yeah.

Well he impressed me in Collateral.

Superman gives me a boner just because they got the John Williams score, which is probably his best ever, IMO.

Interesting, as most people hated the first and liked the second.

I loved the second movie, so I'm really excited for this one. Plus it has Michelle Monaghan from Boston Public.

I think M:I3 will be one of the top three with X-Men and Superman.

I prefered the first one as it seemed closer to the show with all the spy/espionage/secret agency stuff whereas the second was too John Woo/Michael Bay-ish with lots of explosions, over the top fight scenes and little plot development. (which is to be expected since John Woo did it) More style than substance. What is the premise for MI:3? It seems to me like it's more of an action movie featuring Ethan Hunt than a movie about an agent working for IMF.

I think Da Vinci Code will knock MI:3 out of the top 3 ,but MI will still be very profitable.

I can't fucking wait for this movie, the trailer looked absolutely phenominal.

Tom Cruise runs off a building! Tom Cruise thrown into a car! Tom Cruise with tears in his eyes! Phillip Seymour Hoffman yelling at him!

Hooolllly shit.

Umm, Kevin Spacey? And, what is his name, oh yeah, FUCKIN SUPERMAN. People don't care if a big actor is playing him or not because it is Superman. And the buzz has been minimal because the real trailer just got released Tuesday.

Number 1 movie of the summer, no doubt about it.

Dude, the advertising campaign could literally be "The Da Vinci Code is now a movie" and nothing else and it'd still make a zillion dollars. Do you know how many people read that book?

It's not. It has more of the IMF team stuff than the other two. There's a good mix between the espionage and plot twists in the original to the action of the second.

You know the opening to the original with the team infiltrating the party? The middle of this one has an extended mission like that with Hunt and an IMF team. I thought it was the coolest part of the movie.

I thought it was possibly the best movie i've seen (so far) this year. Cruise and Hoffman were excellent. The cinematography was beautiful. The plot left no holes in it and the story was easy to follow without being brainless.

well that's good...I'll scoop it up on DVD anyway, but that's definently nice knowing.

I'll probably go see this on Sunday. I have to admit the trailer drew me in, which is more than I can say for the 2nd movie. M:I 2 is one of those movies where you look up the year 2000, see it was like #3 at the box office, and then think "How the hell is that possible?" At least M:I:3 looks like it has a decent heel, which is more than the first two can say. The first had the ultra idiotic Jon Voight heel turn, and the 2nd had the truly crappy Dougray Scott.

I think people here are forgetting POTC 2. That is likely to make some huge money. At least it's something that had a recent GOOD movie. My last thoughts of Superman are of Superman IV: The Quest For Peace. It's just not something I really am interested in.

As far as Da Vinci Code....I dunno. In Entertainment Weekly they were predicting it to make 200+ million. I wouldn't go so far. To do that you have to draw on a variety of people, and I'm not sure it'll do that. I'm thinking it'll make a bit more than Hanks' Road to Perdition.

The movie was trash, they still have that stupid face changing shit which made MI2 so insufferable.

On a side note Bahar Soomekh (translator/Dorri in Crash) is hot, she needs to be in more stuff.

Wait a minute, whats trash about the movie?

And on the subject of the mask thing (while I haven't seen Mi:2, anyone i talk to says how shitty it was) there was little of it done in this movie, and it was explained when it was.
