Nobody is the next Pele.

They love to talk up Ronaldinho, but so far he hasn't done a whole lot. I'm saying that in hopes that he will tear the Japanese apart.

Yeah, I had my head in my hands when Kewell missed the open goal. Aussies should still go through though. It's not as if Croatia don't look like scoring, but you can beat them.

Another mediocre performance from England, which some added awful defending this time. Apart from Joe Cole no one really made a positive impact. Still, maybe we'll keep scraping through.

God the world's gonna hate us if we keep progressing so miserably. A draw was no less than we deserved. Thank christ Gerrard didn't get booked though, and Rooney is fortunately still a massive threat, he'll only get fitter.

Plus, we saw the return of Roon Rage~!

If football were a 45 minute game, we'd be World Champions. Another game, another competent first half, another stinkfest in the second. Joe Cole was superb and Hargreaves had his best performance in an England shirt ever, but other than that not a lot of positives.

Going by trend, we should crush Ecuador in the 2nd Round and build everyone's hopes up, then go out in the Quarters.

I'm pretty sure that Owen's done.

Yup, his World Cup's over. Expected to be out for up to 5 months.

bah, Mexico makes it to the round of 16.

The countdown to what ol' Brucey is calling America's "world cup" is just a bit over 19 hours away.

I hope America can win out and move on to the next round, I mean we fucked up and didn't win the group, which means we'll have to wind up playing Brazil next, but I think if we lose out.. then Soccer will take another step back as far as popularity in this country.

So, any potential loser plays Portugal, winner plays Mexico, in the event of a draw, Argentina plays Mexico.

Quick question:

Without knowing the name of the goalie for Portugal, were the fans screaming: "PUTO!" everytime he goal kicked or no?

I guess so, my brother heard that too.

Anyway updating the brackets

Germany vs. Sweden

Argentina vs. Mexico

England vs. Ecuador

Portugal vs. Netherlands

Even though as a Mexican American I root for the US over Mexico

Nothing would make me happier than seeing Mexico beat Argentina, too bad Mexico has been playing craptacular.

Would a victory over Brazil mean much for the popularity of the sport in the US anyway? Just a fair question.

It's hard to say we fucked up when we weren't the favorites by any means. People forget that these are three really good teams. Sure losing 3-0 was an embarassment, but we could've played our best and still lost 1-0 or 2-1 easily.

That's true, and I think to the lay fan, that would've looked a whole hell of a lot better than getting smoked the way we did. I mean, we tied with Italy and the fans respected the team for tying because they saw how the US played their hearts off.

Beating Brazil would be a huge thing for soccer heads here because the lay fan knows that Brazil is like, OMGWTFAWESOME!!!1!1 .. and to beat them would almost legitamize the sport stateside.

Why even talk about that match, it's a small chance that it happens anyway?

If it does, I have some really good points to bring up in regard to it.

The US will beat Ghana tomorrow, but I don't trust Italy to get the job done. Ghana has one top player playing tomorrow, the rest are suspended.

Guest Felonies!

They still haven't played that Ghana game? Seems like it's been forever.

A loss to Ghana would mean the death of Major League Soccer in USA.

The MLS is pretty stagnant as it is. I've seen a couple of games before. There aren't enough top quality players because all the money is in Europe, obviously. But the big problem I had was the pitch. The couple of games I've seen, plus the handful of games England played in the U.S a couple of years ago, the playing surfaces were terrible. Bobbly, hard, it's too hard for teams to play exciting football.
