"An email advertisement for the upcoming WWE Vengeance PPV listed the main-event as John Cena vs. Edge for the WWE Title"

So, RVD isn't winning the title.

Get the Swat team ready.

This is complete and utter bullshit.

It's also been tossed around that RVD would face JBL after he beat Rey at Judgment Day. It would make more sense as Vince wouldn't want Cena to get shit on in front of an ECW crowd.

If RVD was to lose to Cena at ONS, it would be a screwjob leading up to the ECW storyline like others have suggested on here.

It's also been suggested a double-pin finish, or something of the like, to give ECW a belt but not take Raws. That's not including the fact that Vince probably doesn't want the prestigous WWE belt going to ECW and that anything can change in the next few months.

Regardless, even if RVD wins the title at ONS, Raw will need a title of its own so you could have Cena/Edge for a new title.

Meltzer has pretty much stated since WM that RVD would be facing the winner of the Backlash 3-way at the ECW PPV.

I can't be the only one who doesn't want RVD as World Champion, surely? He's been okay since coming back but not spectacular, he can't cut a promo to save his life and it's the same damn thing over and over again with him. What's the difference between 2002 RVD and 2006 RVD? If they freshen up RVD's act then maybe, maybe, I could see him as World Champion. As it is does it really matter? How is RVD as Champion going to improve things? I don't see it.

They dropped the ball in 01/02 by not giving him the strap. Now, who cares?

JBL was reported by a few places since.

The difference is that at WM the plan was to give RVD a title shot to help sell the ECW PPV. Now they have to use the PPV as a launch pad to a new brand, as opposed to a one shot deal.

You could have asked Meltzer 5 minutes before the end of the WM title match who was going to win, and he'd have said HHH just like everyone else.

I don't think RVD is really likely to be the one to take the belt from Cena no matter what the situation is.

I'll never get these "Meltzer isn't credible" type of arguments. Meltzer simply reports the news given to him at a given time, and gives his opinions on what he thinks can/would/should happen. He's not one of the fanboys on www.WWEWRESTLINGNEWZ.com saying "KEVIN NASH WILL JOIN THE NEW DX AND ITLL BE TEH KLIQ AGAIN OMG!".

Besides the questions everyone is posing here, this is another one:

Why the hell do we need to see John Cena vs. Edge again?!

How many times are these two going to fight this year? Enough already.

I think I've received all the e-mail advertisements from Bobcats Arena and they haven't listed one match. The major draw is the return of DX and Ric Flair.

Problem is that Edge is the only credible and legitimate main event caliber heel on the Raw roster. Edge, was a draw and continues to be and Cena regained interest from the crowd during that brief period with Edge in January.

It's not them fighting each other that is tiring, it's them fighting each other with Cena always coming out on top. If he'd drop the title again, but for months rather than weeks it would do a hell of a lot to help the staleness in the Raw main event scene. I don't see why they're so scared to take the belt from Cena, if you book it properly, he'll come out stronger on the other end of a run without it.

If anything, between the DX reunion and Cena/Edge again, it looks like Edge will get another reign, only to be the patsy for Triple H. That way they can use Cena/HHH as HHH's first program with the belt, with Cena claiming he's both pinned and made Triple H tap.

I think that continuing with Edge/Cena/HHH combinations for the belt is their best option, especially with a HHH face run coming up.

I don't know who else would transition to ME yet. And, unfortunately, it's going to be HHH against HBK again once DX falls apart. Keep the three of them in there until Survivor Series.

I have no problem with Cena/Edge. I rather liked the two matches they had against each other, so if it means more matches between the two, then I'm all for it.

I said it before in other threads. RVD not winning the title at ONS, isn't the problem, the problem is how will WWE fuck it up to make RVD come off looking weak. Will he just job clean to an "F-U" ? There needs to be some type of astounding circumstance as to why RVD jobs, which will set up the launch of ECW in the coming weeks on Raw.

You cannot job RVD at that PPV under ANY circumstances. Look, Cena jobbing there doesn't hurt him whatsoever and it'd really boost the ECW revival.

Here's the thing. If they are going to start up ECW again you can't just build it around a guy who just jobbed in his biggest match ever.

See, this is why the JBL idea is easily better. With JBL who cares? You just have RVD kick the shit out of him and let the entire ECW roster drink beer over his unconscious body. But since they already made a slight hint at Cena/RVD, they'll have to do it I'd say.

RVD isn't losing, because doing that would kill this version of ECW, and that isn't happening while Vince considers it a pet project. However. they also don't want RVD beating Cena, so that would leave a disputed finish as the most likely outcome, with the real question being what kind of disputed finish do we get.

It would require something really creative because doing the old "evil ref doesn't make the final 3 count" or the "mass run-in causes a non-finish" or the double pin or god forbid, the Montreal finish won't make any impact.

I think Vince will want that feel good pop to end the PPV, so I think we might see the WWE ref get bumped and an ECW ref make the three count and the PPV ends with Van Dam the WWE Champion. Then, the next night on Raw, Vince can strip Van Dam of the belt and they can segue into Van Dam walking out and joining ECW as the uncrowned WWE Champion.

That's actually the first thing I thought, card subject to change. I personally would do something similar to the video game angle where RVD wins the title and then just takes off and reforms ECW. Set up a stip where if RVD wins then ECW gets some sort of TV and can split off from WWE. See, we already know flat out that Vince owns ECW, since he said as much on TV last year. Therefore something has to change here to give the illusion that Heyman is back in charge and running the promotion. That's why I say RVD needs to win and split off.

From there they can do a tourney on Raw and still have Cena/Edge in the finals at Vengeance for the WWE title. That idea hurts no one, helps RVD, helps the ECW revival, and so on.

Good thing ECW is coming back, or RVD would stay a mid-carder where he belongs and you guys would bitch, bitch, bitch.

Oh, wait...

Yeah, that makes alot of sense. Rob Van Dam actually attempts to make his matches entertaining, which is much more than most mid-carders in WWE could say. He may not be the best wrestler in WWE, but I would much rather see a Jerry Lynn / Rob Van Dam spotfest over a Chris Benoit / Kurt Angle match any day of the week.

That's insane.

Lots of people work their asses off, but it doesn't mean they should go to the top of the card.

I just hope if RVD wins any belt, it's an ECW belt, so I don't have to watch the garbage.

I don't even think that RVD should win the title at ONSII now anyway, so I'm just fine with this news.

There needs to be some true catalyst for Paul Heyman, RVD, and all the other guys to start up ECW as an actual brand once again, and having RVD getting screwed out of the WWE Title at ONSII is the perfect place for that to happen.

Either at ONSII or on the next RAW, have RVD come out (still the IC champ) with Paul Heyman and the other ECW guys and cut a viscous promo on WWE as a whole, ending with RVD spitting on the IC belt and tossing it down, and then Paul Heyman presenting RVD with the ECW World Title (or maybe even just the TV title since that was RVD's strap for so long). I could see them presenting him with the TV title (well, a new one since the old one is gone now), and then Paul Heyman saying that the TV title has been merged with the old ECW world strap. They don't need the world and TV title right now anyway, so that would be pretty cool, and it would make sense since RVD pretty much owned that title for so long.

If they do something like that, I don't have a single problem with RVD doing the job at ONSII.
