Is Wood one of the bigger flameouts ever? Sad thing is, is with the way he throws, everyone should have seen it coming. You can't throw across your body forever.

I'm inclined to say no, because there are dozens of pitchers with similar stories. Check out Herb Score, Billy McCool and Mark Fidrych, for example.

Phat Albert is likely to miss anywhere from 2-6 weeks. Let the freefall begin.

More like "watch Aaron Miles and Hector Luna impossibly pick up the slack and keep them in first," if you ask me. Too bad Pujols is gonna miss such a big chunk of the great season he was having, I actually wanted to see him keep tearing it up. The only Cardinal I really dislike is Edmonds, actually.

What was the offer that the Red Sox made to the Angels involving Manny during the offseason?

Also, Boston screwed up when they traded Renteria, unless he's playing this well due to being comfortable with the pitching.

Braves down 4-0 in the 2nd inning and looking well on their way to a 4th straight loss and 6th on this homestand. However, thanks to the magic of Youtube I was finally able to watch the MC Hammer Atlanta Braves commercial. I don't know if I should be laughing or crying.

My game my team oh oh my south, go Braves

They screwed up when they signed him for that much money in the first place. There's probably something to him liking National League pitching better.

Clement is surprisingly un-sucky today, though the Tigers are swinging at some pretty poor pitches.

I'm cringing at Pauley pitching at Yankee Stadium, though.

Ah, there's the sucky Clement. As soon as batters show a modicum of patience it all goes to hell for him.

Milledge comes through with a two-out, two RBI double in the bottom of the 6th to put the Mets up 3-1. He's been having a very good day thus far, as that hit puts him at 2-2 with a walk.

Someone go to Baltimore and tell the Yankees to save some of this suck for the next four games.

And Chasing Bagwell is over as Manny ties him for 31st all time on the HR list.

Cubs should probably be blowing the Cards out right now, but due to some key outs, they've got five runs off five walks and six hits so far. Of course, that would've been unthinkable for this team a couple weeks ago, but when you have a chance to stomp on the throat of a team like the Cards, you'd like to do it.

David Wright hits his second home run of the day to tie the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the 8th. I'm constantly amazed at just how good he is.

Cards take the lead in the 5th. The game shouldn't have even been in reach at this point, but that's what happens when you let a good team stick around.

As an aside, Murton's looked positively atrocious in the field and at the plate lately.

I saw the Brewers' starter walked the pitcher (who was trying to bunt) with two on and two outs. He was lifted and the reliever gave up a slam to Soriano. Ouch.

And surprise, another shitty throw for Jacque Jones leads to another Cards run and runners moving up. I thought this guy was supposed to be a GOOD defensive player?

After the Mets had gone down 6-4, Jose Valentin hits a solo home run in the bottom of the tenth, only for Lastings Milledge to hit one shortly thereafter and tie the game up at 6! God damn!

I now admit that I might have been a bit too rash earlier regarding Lastings. :D

Sweet baserunning, Juan. Cubs have four walks in two innings, but have yet to really make Marquis pay.

What was even worse about that is that it was on a 2-0 count and Marquis looked like he had no intention of ever throwing a strike again. He probably could have waited a couple of pitches and just walked to second (in fact, he took off on ball 3 of that at-bat). Just a really bad decision.

Interesting to see Tyler Johnson working the 8th. He's always had more electric stuff than Flores and his power pitching is more suited to the later innings anyway.

Of course, two strikeouts later and we see vintage TLR, as he takes out the relief pitcher that nobody can pick up and brings in Braden Looper for the righty/righty matchup. I will be genuinely surprised if Looper takes this game into the ninth without allowing at least one baserunner.

I should be happy with a series win (and I am), but this had all the makings of a Cubs blowout early in the going. They were putting together great at-bats, stringing together hits and avoiding stupid fundamental mistakes.

This game was a good representation of why the Cubs have to make more changes to their outfield. Even if they make throws that are on line, the Cubs regulars in the outfield have some of the weakest arms in the majors, which really hurts in situations where there could be plays at the plate.

Well - Marlins swept the Rockies. Look out Pittsburgh! And Washington is next to be passed.

Miguel Cabrera moved his average up to around .360.

I look at Pauley and see a non-headcase Derek Lowe in a couple years maybe. He looked decent for the first 4 innings...
