godthedog Posted May 29, 2006 Report Posted May 29, 2006 my friend in delaware had 2 extra tickets to the pearl jam show in camden, NJ, and invited my girlfriend and me to go with him. so now, if i'm ever asked the question, "Why would you want to take a road trip to the most dangerous city in america?" i can say: "To see pearl jam." they're still a good live show, and they've still got a rabid following that sings along with EVERYTHING (even the new songs), but there weren't any great moments. like the new album, solid but not memorable. they evidently have a lot of faith in their new material, as they played more than half the new album live. "life wasted" was a good opening number, and "come home" was a good slowdown number. the rest was eddie's muffled screaming over ballsy cruncy guitar chords that i don't really remember. eddie, for being in his mid-40s, looks fantastic. his voice is still in fine form and he's got a ton of energy. matt cameron looks like a college freshman. the rest of the band, especially mike mccready, looks like your friend's dad. you know the one, the guy with the good taste in music but the creepy skin and the bad haircut. they wandered off in too many places. in the words of my girlfriend, "almost wanky enough to be a jam band." i like it when they do it a few times, for a big balls-out ending and such, but their jamming probably took up almost a third of the show. worth the drive and the time, but i'm glad i didn't pay for tickets.
Sideburnious Posted May 29, 2006 Report Posted May 29, 2006 I just hope they get it together for the European part of their tour. I'm really looking forward to see them (and the tickets were like golddust, as there was only 8000 available).
Spaceman Spiff Posted June 2, 2006 Report Posted June 2, 2006 Dammit, they just played "Footsteps" at the 1st Meadowlands show tonight. I'm going to the 2nd show on Sat., and I was hoping to hear the song there. The 1 song I've been dying to hear live, and haven't in the 4 shows I've been to already. Dammit. And it's "Come Back", not "Come Home", btw.
UZI Suicide Posted June 2, 2006 Report Posted June 2, 2006 Pearl Jam is going to be on VH1 Storytellers on July 1.
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe Posted June 3, 2006 Report Posted June 3, 2006 I went to the first Meadowlands show (6/1) too. It was fucking awesome. One of the last songs they did was a Who cover of Teenage Wasteland. The crowd was really, really into the whole set which lasted over 2 hours. I've never been to that arena so packed before, or so loud and crazy. Pearl Jam notoriously one of the best live acts around, and their fans are awesome.
Spaceman Spiff Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 Damn you, Jack Bauer, for stealing Footsteps from me. Awesome show last night. Best of the 5 I've seen. Band was energetic, crowd was incredible (esp. during Black & Alive), an all around great show. Show lasted about 2 hours 45 minutes. Main Set: Severed Hand, Corduroy, World Wide Suicide, Hail, Hail, Animal, Love Boat Captain, In Hiding, Even Flow, I Am Mine, Whipping, Gone, Comatose, State of Love And Trust, Rats, Garden, Inside Job, Porch Encore 1: Army Reserve, Hard to Imagine, Last Kiss, Black (We Belong Together), Crazy Mary, Last Exit Encore 2: Wasted Reprise, Life Wasted, Lukin, Leash, Don't Gimme No Lip, Why Go, Leaving Here, Alive, Yellow Ledbetter (Star Spangled Banner).
Sonic Reducer Posted June 10, 2006 Report Posted June 10, 2006 I saw them five times on this tour. These are shows mainly for the hardcore fans. Sure, hits are thrown in all over the place, but the fact that they've busted out Leash again and they're playing stuff like Hard to Imagine, Around the Bend, Rats and Satan's Bed now is amazing. It's safe to say that fairweather fans would enjoy the show, and not really understand what they're witnessing. Grand Rapids had the best set ever. Detroit had the worst fans ever.
Sonic Reducer Posted June 10, 2006 Report Posted June 10, 2006 On a sidenote, this thread wins the award for 'Most Incorrect Song Titles'.
BifEverchad Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 On a sidenote, this thread wins the award for 'Most Incorrect Song Titles'. I can't wait til they play "Do the Elevation" again..
Guest The Beta Male Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 for my money, Nine was the best album.
