LaRue is a catcher on a team that is loaded with them, logically trading him makes sense as Valentin is a servicable back-up to Ross. Problem is, LaRue is a much better defender then Ross is. I'm surprised the Reds are sticking around this long. Granted, they usually are a really streaky team, but it seems like this season their hot streaks are outlasting their cold streaks. I'm not convinced that they'll be in the race at the end of the season, but they're doing their thing, and, like the Tigers, will probably start contending next year, if get a little more pitching help. The maybe the trade should be with Valentin, and have LaRue be back-up Hal McCoy suggested switching Phillips and Lopez to bring down errors in that area, and it might help Harrang just had a bad night last night, hope he'll get back in form next start. DMann, trading Valentin gets nothing. LaRue's trade value is slightly higher. You either sacrifice another offensive machine or defense. Arroyo has geled with Ross and you can't screw with that formula. Cincy has starting pitching now, they are in dire need of a bullpen (as do 20 other MLB teams). Dunn, extended his contract for 2 years(with option for 3rd) in March because they changed the ownership. I mean, you got Coffey, Mercker, and Weathers (who, I think, is decently above average, but shouldn't be closing under any circumstances), and some decent talent in the minors, namely Ryan Wagner and Mike Burns (I was upset that Houston just out and out dropped him.). And I think the best trade bet of the three catchers would be LaRue, as he's too good of a defender to be a backup catcher, and Valentine isn't going to get much in return. As far as trades for Dunn, I know for a fact that he would love to come to Houston and Houston would probably love to have him-strikeouts and all, but I doubt an inter-division trade would happen. And who woulda thought, at the beginning of the season, that the two biggest Cy Young candidates would be Brandon Webb and Bronson Arroyo? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Failed Bridge 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2006 Does Larue play shortstop? I just don't understand the hatred for Alex Gonzales that alot of Red Sox fans have. I still personally enjoy watching him play. I understand however that he is what he is; that being a gold glove caliber SS that isn't going to give you massive offensive numbers but will contribute from time to time when it counts. Does anybody remember having to sit through Mike Lansing in the field and at the plate? It's weird that obviously Cincy's in the race, as of yet, so it seems like the FO would be going after quality arms that would help the bullpen, as opposed to getting guys who haven't ever done anything anywhere. Annabelle 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2006 the tigers have made a few foolish moves. percival stands out. jones stands out. ivan rodriguez does not. sure, he's having an iffy year. but he's a great leader who gives the tigers a lot of punch in an otherwise dry offensive position. he's still really solid defensively. they probably did overpay him, though. ordonez has done extremely well for them this year. not the monster he once was, but definately giving the tigers a heft bat for the middle of their line-up. a great guy for monroe, thames, & granderson to learn from. as mentioned earlier, the tigers have made some great trades that went under the radar the past few years. players who've ended up being quite spectacular. carlos guillen, a great ss, was acquired for peanuts. polanco for a reliever in his decline. zach minor & roman colon for kyle farnsworth. minor looked great starting against the blue jays this weekend. bonderman is one of the few great pitchers the a's did not give full consideration to. he's got ace written all over him. along with verlander. shelton has been discussed already. add this to two of the hottest pitching prospects in the league. both justin verlander & joel zumaya are the envy of baseball. hard throwing youngsters who have a great career ahead of them. stalwarts like inge, monroe, robertson, rodney, shelton, maroth, & infante are finally gelling. perenial minor leaguer marcus thames is hitting 1 hr per 11 at bats. thats sick. all of this with a proven world champion skipper? c'mon. i'd try zumaya as a closer myself. him, or rodney. try to unload jones for something. he looks so feable & weak when he pitches. not the aura a closer should have. zumaya is that kinda guy. MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2006 Amaury Telemaco is the only pitcher in ML history to face 3 Different Cy Young Winners (Drabek,Glavine,Maddux in 1996) in his first 3 ML starts..but Adam Loewen will have faced in this order: Randy Johnson,Roy Halladay, Roy Halladay, Tom Glavine (this weekend) in his first 4 starts. The announcers hype the fact that they're traditional with no big screen or digital scoreboard or such. The big between inning activity is slip and sliding in the urinals in the men's room and yet, they now have a Motorola digital bullpen phone. Add to the irony that the bullpen is about five feet from the dugout. Dusty could stand up on the steps and yell to get a pitcher ready. And the Astros are shellacking the Cubbies. 3rd inning. 3-0. Bases loaded no outs. Isn't Michael Barrett supposed to be suspended? Is he getting leniency because he hit AJ Pierzynski...and nobody likes Pierzynski?
