The OAO 6/26 Raw Thread

Recommended Posts

I don't think the angle is all that hot. It reminds me of the Cena/HHH/Edge feud where everyone really wanted to see Cena/HHH and Edge was just kind of there. Well now Edge is HHH, and RVD is Edge, because RVD just looks like the red headed stepchild in the whole thing. He needed Edge to beat Cena at ONS, and he needed Edge to prevent him from losing tonight. He's coming off like a bitch.

I disagree. The thing about Cena is that he fragments the audience. Sure, 60% of them or so love him and buy all his merchandise. The problem is that the rest of the fans can't stand him. So what do they do? Enter RVD. Now, the other 40% still has a top face to rally behind that's involved in the same main feud. I'm mildly interested in Cena/Edge because they've built it well, but what I really want to see is RVD kick both of their asses. Well, Vince has decided to appease me and the 40% of the audience like me by building things in a way where both sides can feel like their side won fair and square.

As others have noted, there's no reason to suspect RVD was going to tap tonight. Why would he? At ONS he was in the STFU and simply got to the ropes and that was that. I do think Edge's run in would have been slightly better if he had done it while both men were simply down.

I enjoy some of the gray area here. Stuff like "Is Edge doing this on his own or is Heyman bribing him, or is it all a coincidence?" It's subtle booking and it's surprising really.

Why isn't there? EVERYONE has tapped to it. Edge, Sabu, Triple H, Kurt Angle - there's simply no reason to believe that RVD wouldn't tap to it.

If they wanted to make it good for both sides, they would have done it, like the guy above me said, when both men were down. They clearly booked it to make it look like Cena had RVD finished if it wasn't for Edge. Which is pretty much the same thing that happened at ONS. They could have at least thrown RVD a bone and had him about to finish off Cena before Edge comes in.

Exactly. It's episodic booking which is something the WWE has been missing for a while. I think it's going to come out that Heyman went to Edge, told him he was being misused, and enlisted him as an insurance policy which was kind of hinted at by the backstage segment between Heyman and RVD as well as Edge "leaving the WWE". However, finding out exactly how it's all going to come together is a good reason to tune in tomorrow and a good reason to tune in next Monday.

Loaded Glove, as I said RVD got to the ropes at ONS while in the STFU, so there's certainly doubt as to whether he would just tap or make the ropes.

If they are doing the "Edge and Heyman are in cahoots" angle then RVD cannot be in on this. He has to be stoned and oblivious to it all.

The Main Event was about as good of a Cena match as I have seen in awhile. It might not have been a technical masterpiece, but it was actually entertaining. Thank You RVD....

Also, RVD should be getting booed, once he turned "ECW" he should be the heel to the marks, and marks always outnumber smarks at WWE show. It's no coincidence that RVD was getting massive cheers up until he "turned ECW" which coincided directly with the start of his Cena program. Kind of funny how they wouldn't let him confront Cena until it was assured that he wouldn't be the bigger face of the two.

I am not sure why people think Cena was getting so many cheers. I just got done watch the Main Event and to me it breaks down like this

75% booing RVD

25% Cheering RVD/ECW

60% booing Cena

40% trying to get a "lets go cena" chant going, but failing as everytime it starts up, it draws boos and jeers.

With the Cena/RVD feud the crowd is confused. They aren't SUPPOSED to cheer for RVD because he is the "ECW guy" but most of the MALES in the crowd don't care for Cena either. So the crowd is more about booing them both rather then overwhemingly cheering for either one.

Whenever Cena gets cheers, I swear it basically sounds like Jeff Hardy fans, went from 13 years old to 16 years old, washed off the makeup/paint and discovered "thug life" Other then that, I am not sure why people think he is getting that many cheers.

Very good point, Mike. In terms of crowd heat, that was one bizarre match tonight. RVD is working a tweener persona right now in WWE terms (on ECW he is obviously face). I don't think I've ever seen a match where both participants were booed by various people in the crowd. I've seen matches where neither man had any heat at all, but this wasn't like that. This was....weird. Imagine when they add a full fledged heel like Edge to the mix.

See the thing is, I think people still aren't understanding the mentality of marks. If you are a WWE Mark, and RVD "joins ECW" then in your mind, you are supposed to boo him. I guarantee if he came out on Raw next week and renounced ECW and said "I am WWE 4 life etc etc etc" he would get nearly all of his face heat back, however no matter how much WWE marks liked him a year ago, they aren't going to like a guy that badmouths WWE and leaves to join another show. So when people on here act like RVD is getting booed because he is stale or boring or people just don't like him anymore, they need to remember the ratio of smarks-to-marks in the crowd and who they are directed at to boo and cheer.

Call me weird, but I enjoyed the fact that the crowd actually showed life during the Main Event tonight. All during the match we were getting some type of vocal response from the crowd, whether it was for RVD or Cena or against RVD or Cena. Unlike the usual Raw Main Event where the crowd pops and boos for the entrances, then goes to sleep during the match until the obvious run-in finish. The crowd was alive and kicking for this match.

Yeah, I think I missed that too. In my mind, WWE mark = ridiculous dumbass that cheers for Cena. I forgot about the in between types that haven't been watching long enough to embrace ECW, but still realize that Cena's crap.

Yes it is rather sad. What about what you have seen from RVD as champ do you hate so much that you would want Triple H to have the title back? Has RVD not been involved in good matches since ONS? The consensus around here seems to think so, I would like to hear what you actually have a problem with, rather then these one-line zingers you keep throwing at RVD, or is this just Leena "The Heel" at work?

How long before Edge becomes the cool heel that the older males start cheering, and then the younger kids start to follow suit because cheering for what the older guys cheer for is cool.

They (as in WWE commentators) always make mention of RVD's flexibility. Why don't they ever use that as justification on why he doesn't tap out to submission moves, or why it's tough to get him to submit? It's a smart angle, and it justifies why he didn't necessarly need Edge to interfere to keep the title.

Other than that, I'm liking the main event scene with RVD, Edge and Cena. The beginning (liked the Trish/Mickie match and liked the angle after) and the end were the highlights of the show for me.

Kane killing Kane 2 and the main event were the only watchable parts on this show. I guess Mickie vs Trish was ok but boy Melina is a dog.

I liked tonite's show. I think it was the best they've done in probably over a year.

Things I liked:

----Edge shooting on Torrie Wilson. I love it. His best line was "Get the hell out of the ring before Lita beats your ass"...For whatever reason I found that funny. The Skidmark remark was good too. Then it gets better as he storms out of the arena and takes his T Shirts. That was the best segment of the nite I think. I'm honestly sick of Torrie Wilson. Could the WWE at least try not to blatantly copy pop culture? Its obvious they are copying Paris Hilton (which most people hate), by constantly having Torrie come to the ring with her dogs. If your gonna copy someone, at least copy someone that isnt hated like Paris Hilton.

-----DX segment took a little long. HBK danced a little too much. But anything that ends with the SS looking like douches is a good segment.

----Edge making the save at the end. Good bc Cena winning would have ultra sucked

----Kane getting his mask back. I like this. I think Kane getting the mask back, and being booked as a monster (remember when he killed Shane, and lit JR on fire)..that was when Kane was entertaining. I hope they get him back to being that. Of course, they can always just have him take his mask off and be normal, or put it on to be the monster. You never know. But i think Kane vs Imposter Kane was done to logically put the mask back on Kane, and it worked.

Things I didnt like:

---Highlanders ripping off a Kingpin joke. Come on, that was way too blatant.

--The Diva search nonsense.....I could care less

--Still dont like Carlito as a face, but maybe if he and Trish become heels together it'd work.

--Hearing JR and King laugh when DX is giving a promo. I hate hearing announcers in the background when a performer is giving a promo. It just kills things and feels forced to the viewer.

Just a Random Thought

----Lillian Garcia is the best looking woman in the WWE, with the most talent, and I hope she leaves WWE for her own sake. She's deserves better and I hope she follows the Stacy Keibler example. Some chics (Lita, Melina, Maria, Trish, Torrie)...WWE is all they are ever gonna do. Lillian just seems a cut above.

This was different because Cena had RVD right in the center of the ring. It's highly doubtful that he'd have been able to drag him all the way to the rope. Not to mention you had JR yelling about the fact that RVD was about to tap out if Edge had not interfered. The WWE is trying to playing it like RVD was about to tap.

RVD should not be getting booed. That's the error the WWE made in this entire thing. The same crowd that is booing RVD on RAW is going to be booing him on ECW TV at the Smackdown taping. They're trying to create this "Us vs. Them" storyline, where RVD is the "outsider", but it's all taking place in front of the WWE marks who don't give a shit about ECW.

Thats in 3 weeks!!! What else can they do with this angle to keep it fresh for 3 week? Its starting to get stale.

Oh and anyone else wondering why the WWE annouce team wasn't just badmouthing RVD tonight? You think he would since he's an outsider and has their belt and yes RVD should have came out 2nd not 1st, that made no sense.

"Melina is a dog"

Post a picture of a woman you've had that is prettier.

What the fuck? You don't have to had sex with hot women, to able to judge other girls. Especially girls who are a mix of Juventud Guerrera and a dog in a dress.

Anyways, man WWE would have nothing "interesting" going on this Summer were it not for the DX and ECW reunion tours...

At SNME, Cena and RVD should both pin Edge, and Cena should get the WWE title because he's a "contracted" WWE wrestler that got a pinfall in a title match, and RVD should just keep the ECW title and not really care about the WWE title because he accepts that Cena scored a pinfall too. And then hopefully the WWE/Raw crossover on ECW will stop, and Edge and Cena can have another 56 matches together on Raw.

Never, because Edge isn't cool. His promos sound forced and he's not very funny.

That's one thing I've been wondering about this whole "double pin" scenario that people keep bringing up. Why the hell would Cena get the WWE title if there was a double pin? It's not like the match would be for both titles, so they'd just split them in two. The match would be for the WWE title only, so if there was a double pin, either RVD would keep the belt or the title would get held up. It doesn't make sense that it would go to Cena.

If they are going to move the title back to Raw, the only way it makes sense is for Edge to win it. That way Cena still has the heat of chasing the guy that screwed him out of the title going into Summerslam, Edge has the heat of being the champion, and RVD looks like he's still legitimate because he already beat Edge cleanly in a singles match. Not sure who Edge should pin though. That's still a little sketchy.

I still see the title Rob holds as one title. He is not in possession of the ECW and the WWE titles because they are one in the same. When he won the WWE title, it was re-christned the ECW title. He was supposed to toss the other belt, but he liked it and it was so prestigous. Until they actually split the two titles up, it is one title represented in two belts.

Not really. He's the WWE and ECW champion. He won the WWE title from Cena, and in doing so, ECW "owner" recognized Van Dam as the champion and new holder of the (at the time) vacant and revived ECW title.

The lineages are:

WWE Title:

John Cena >>> Rob Van Dam.

ECW World Heavyweight Title:

Rhino >>> Vacant >>> Rob Van Dam.

Actually, it is ONE title represented by two titles.

There would be no ECW Title without the WWE Title. Heyman needed RVD to win to have the right to re-christen a title as a "World" title.

Van Dam is the ECW World Champion. ECW doesn't recognize the WWE Title. But Van Dam likes it, because "it spins", and for some reason keeps giving the WWE a chance to win the thing back.

It's about time people started to boo RVD. Now, they just need to do something with it.

Face RVD is stale as month old bread, he's been doing the same crap for 5 years. Let him be cocky, let him throw in some mannerisms like he did in ECW and for crying out loud, USE SOME NEW SPOTS ROB!! You can take virtually any RVD match from the past 3 years and again, it's the same crap. Have him actually DO something! All you hear is RVD being a 'great athlete' and an 'innovative wrestler' but he's been nothing of the sort. And that's not just the mythical "WWE style's fault". All the hype for RVD was great in 1999, because he was innovative and he was doing something exciting. Now? He's no Jack Evans. He's no AJ Styles. He's in Petey Williams' league, getting by on the old standbys even though they're probably capable of more.

Also, why whenever we see Van Dam backstage is he busy shadow boxing, yet when he steps in a wrestling ring he throws some of the weakest punches going?

Kane kicking fake Kane's ass was cool(especially the chokeslam on the ramp). Cena/RVD was ok. Edge's T-shirt tantrum was funny.

Not as bad as last week's Raw(still not in Smackdown's league).

The mark fans interviews were so lame.
