Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted September 30, 2006 Physically gifted fighters often do (and get away with) things that most other fighters wouldn't dream of. Imagine Chuck Liddell telling a young up and coming fighter, "Now, once you get taken down, immediately give up your back, make no attempts to defend your neck and simply stand up." Regardless, it was some strange advice from Rich, though I assume he imagined Serra pulling guard as Spratt coming into punching range.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted September 30, 2006 I love Captian MIserable. I laughed my ass off when he found it, lowered his head, and pretended like it didn't bother him
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2006 UPKICK, ya heard? Cote/Dewees and Sell/Lutter along with Serra/Lytle and Thomas/Carter are my picks for the semis.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2006 Serra/Carter for the finals and then Serra/Carter 3 at UFC 69!
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2006 PROPS FOR SHONIE CARTER, KEEPIN IT GANGSTA. Fuck that team shit now, your in the semi finals, now you gotta fight for yourself, not the team shit. Matt Serra is a little bitch, he has no right to say shit. Considering he tried to map out the easiest route for his boy Drago to get to the semi's and ends up fucking over Scott Smith, and he also stated had the grey team won the coin toss, he would've fought Burnett, the easiest fight for him. Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2006 Scott Smith is more gangsta then Shonie Carter. I'm pretty sure that once you use the word 'vernacular' you turn in your g-pass.

And make use of a Bedazzler to sequin up your hat. That probably isn't keeping it gangsta.
Mik 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2006 I love when Shonie stands in front of the camera and loosely strings together big words. They kinda go together and make sense but are arranged in a way that normal human beings would never consider using. The fact that he truly thinks he is a genius for doing it cracks me up every time. Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2006 Shonie Carter has no class, but I guess that's why people find him so entertaining to watch on television, myself included. He's the worst WW left, so he's gonna get his comeuppance from Serra.
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2006 I actually cannot wait for Hughes to fuck with Serra this week.

He's the worst WW left, so he's gonna get his comeuppance from Serra. How many "spinning back hand" references are we going to get THAT week I wonder? For the first couple of weeks I thought Shonie was amusing (the suit and cane, etc.). Now he's starting to irritate me. Dude, you're on a show that is being billed as guys' "last chance" at UFC success. Why are you acting like you don't have a care in the world? If I were in your spot I'd be jumping around the house from having so much nervous energy.
Angel_Grace_Blue 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2006 Did the timekeeper fall asleep during the first round? I didn't think it was that boring, but whatevs. Also: Did I misunderstand what he said, or did Hughes say something along the lines of "I know you said something, Din, I saw your big lips flapping." at the sushi restaurant (Speaking of that, what kind of good ol' country farm boy eats sushi?) Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2006 That fight sucked. The narcoleptic timekeeper didn't help matters either. I strongly dissagree. I found the fight entertaining, and razor close. I had Din Thomas barely winning, but can't complain about the desicion. The rest of the fights are predictable to me. They should've gone with Carter/Thomas and Lytle/Serra, that would've been more interesting IMO.
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2006 On one hand, Matt Hughes shows he is not a stupid country boy due to his love of sushi. On the other...."Nigger lips".

naiwf 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2006 This was the entire fight. . . They exchange a few punches, most of which miss, Thomas goes for a takedown and slips or fails to execute it. Chris dry humps him until the ref stands them up, rinse and repeat. Execute this game plan at half speed in the 2nd round, and one quarter speed in the 3rd. If that was a fight they didn't want to "deprive the world of", I'd hate to see a fight that they didn't want us subjected to. Both guys were gassed after the first round, and neither landed one clean shot or sub attempt. In summary, for a SF it was the drizzling shits.
starvenger 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2006 You could see it coming. It was pretty much a case of knowing each other's strengths TOO well, and trying not to make mistakes instead of just letting it all hang out.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2006 Din was landing some elbows when Lytle was on top of him, which is why I had Din winning the fight. Standing up Din was countering most of Lytle's shots. Close desicion, I found the fight to be exciting.

Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2006 I can't wait for the return of rookies and prospects. I agree, from what I've read, TUF5 should be really interesting with 16 lightweights, and Jens Pulver and BJ Penn as possible trainers.
Mik 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2006 That's good because right now the LW division is the least interesting to me. I know the fights are better, for the most part, but there's no one I feel like I'd solidly get behind. Adding a bunch of new fighters, one or two I may be a big fan of, would certainly help me enjoy the LW division more.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2006 On one hand, Matt Hughes shows he is not a stupid country boy due to his love of sushi. On the other...."Nigger lips". I found his "I'll show you how to defend the armbar" line to GSP far more offensive then his racial slur on Din. But I'm a cracka so whatever.
Mik 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2006 I thought Serra/Carter was pretty boring. The second coming of the spinning back fist was pretty cool, but I was sort of fiding myself rooting for both of them to lose somehow. I think that Matt Serra did do a good job of making Laimon look like a total bitch. "Whatever, man. That's his opinion. Just because I don't fight means I can't have an opinion on something?" What a dick.
starvenger 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2006 I thought Serra/Carter was pretty boring. The second coming of the spinning back fist was pretty cool, but I was sort of fiding myself rooting for both of them to lose somehow. Definitely wasn't boring, but it wasn't MOTY either. Shonie seemed to be playing defence, so he was reacting to whatever Matt threw at him. There were several nice takedowns, and I kept wondering if Matt tore something with the way he was grunting (Seles + Sharapova - hotness + short New Yorker = Matt's grunts). No real sloooooow points like Thomas/Lytle, Serra and Shonie stayed active. Relative to the rest of the season, this was a very good match. Relative to everything else, it was passable. Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2006 I liked the fight well enough, but other than backfist v2 Matt was never in danger of losing that fight. Shonie having a burst at the last 30 seconds of round one wasn't enough to steal the round...I didn't think so anyway. Looking forward to the finals. I like Matt and Chris...and I like all of the middleweights but Drago. And it was nice seeing Laimon get talked down. Guy seems like and looks like a dick
