WHAT THE FUCK were the Mets thinking when they traded Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano? As mind boggling as it was at the time of the trade, it's even worse now. That honestly has potential to go down as one of the worst trades in the history of baseball, maybe in the history of any sport. Can some Mets fan clue me in on the story behind this? Is there a story behind it aside from the GM just being a total dumbshit? A.) Why did they want to trade him? B.) Why didn't they get more than a journyman pitcher for the top prospect in baseball?

No it was a Duquette who was the gm of the Mets in 2004. I believe it was Jim Duquette's cousin or something who was the gm. The Mets believed that Rick Peterson could fix Zambrano because he said so. Every Mets fan that I know hates that trade with a passion.

They go to 'em and go to 'em and go to 'em, and it's good to be that guy because then you get that opportunity to keep playing, and if you mess up, you get to go back out there. But the bad part is that if you are not one of his boys and he doesn't have much confidence in you, then you wear it. For me and some other people, we don't get opportunities to get in there and stay fresh and keep it going. It's been hard. If you are just one of the players on the outside, it's hard because you feel like you're under a microscope and walking on eggshells. Expos trade Randy Johnson for Seattle's Mark Langston. Mark goes on to win only 12 games for the Expos. 4. 1987 the Tigers trade John Smoltz for Doyle Alexander 5. 1981 the Padres trade Ozzie Smith to the Cardinals for Gary Templeton. 6. 1991 the Astros Traded Kenny Lofton for Willie Blair and Eddie Taubense. It is scary to think but in the 90's the Astros could have had Lofton, Bagwell and Biggio in the same lineup.

If the Astros wouldn't have made several bad moves, we could have had Bagwell, Biggio, Kenny Lofton, Bobby Abreu, Freddy Garcia, Carlos Guillen, and Curt Schilling in the 90s. Hawk 34 Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006 The big rumor around here is that Felipe Lopez is on the block and apparently, talks have started with Detroit...yet last I checked Detroit doesn't need help in the IF and it's not like Lopez is a big threat at the plate (although he is a good threat to steal). However, of the entire team I would believe Lopez is most expendable. People are still expecting Kearns to get dealt.

To be fair, Andersen went undefeated for the stretch run into the playoffs (allowing only 3 runs in 22IP) and helped the Sawx win the East. At the time, they had future hall of famer Wade Boggs at third, so moving Bagwell to third wasn't an option. They also had future Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Champion Mo Vaughn at first, and Bagwell was ranked behind Vaughn in the organizational depth chart and was traded merely a year after being drafted.
