I miss Chris Benoit!

Recommended Posts

I was just thinking the other day how much I could use a good Benoit match... basically I miss one of my old hobbies. So, the question is should I get back into wrestling? Give me your honest opinion.

Also, I've been out of it since the late, great Eddie Guerrero was about to win the title. Is there any place I can get a history of what I've missed without having to read all of the weekly recaps?

As for whether or not I should get back into it... I realize there is no possible way for the crap that drove me away to be completely gone, but the question is whether or not there's enough good stuff to make the bad stuff tolerable. I was hoping, seeing the recreation of ECW, that they may have brought back competition to the various products.

If there is that competition, and some good workers, as well as a good presence of guys like Benoit, Angle, Cena, etc... That would be a good sign. Basically, am I missing something and if so what have I missed?

All you've missed is Vince McMahon dig ECW out of the grave and basically make it a 3rd WWE brand, not playing any respect or loyality to what ECW once was.

You've missed nothing.

Don't bother getting back into WWE, as there's only been a couple truly meaningful matches and two good storylines since Eddie's title win.

The crap just multiplied. For instance, male cheerleaders, DX revival with 2 40+ year old men pretending to be 20, another samoan savage, more giants with no talent, skills or anything at all, good talents from indies stripped down to nothing, and Bradshaw carried a promotion for 11 months.

The good stuff, is probably to be found on Youtube anyways. Outside of WWE, things have been good.

You would be better off watching the indy shows that name their big shows after 80's tv, movies, music icons. All WWE shows look like glorified indy shows at the moment so if you have the urge to waste money on wrestling you might as well throw that $20-$30 on local shows or tapes/DVD-Rs.

SD is pretty interesting because their roster is so thin. Thus, you get programs you wouldn't have imagined a year ago (Booker/Rey for the title, Finlay/Lashley, etc) as well as longer, better matches.

Raw is just terrible, and ECW2 is a joke. Don't watch either of those.

For the record, I do NOT consider Cena to be in the same league as Angle or Benoit.

Well, I guess this is a resounding "no!"... maybe I'm better off going the DVD route and reliving my favorite moments.

Now is the best time to become an MMA fan. Even if Benoit returned I doubt he'd be enough to sway my love at this point.

The MMA Folder is poppin' off, btw. New cats are joining every day and despite what you might hear we're all really cool guys (except for Lei Tong).

Do you watch TNA? Not all the wrestling is great, but there's some interesting stuff going on right now. (Senshi as X division champion, Samoa Joe feuding with Steiner, Christian slowly going heel, etc).

One thing thats kinda nice is there is so much wrestling to watch these days you can almost just pick any night of the week and catch something.

For example Wrestling has been on every night, including tonight, since last Thursday.

Raw's hard to watch. I don't know about ECW but I hear it's also hard to watch. Keep in mind I've hardly watched any of Raw lately. Sabu however is definitely worth watching.

Smackdown's been a lot of fun with a lot more interesting wrestlers. The booking is often poor but at least Smackdown has more of an old school feel to it. They have been producing an awful lot of good matches.

Finlay alone is greater than the entire Raw roster.

Rey is better than the entire Raw roster

Henry is more entertaining than the entire Raw roster.

Regal is more entertaining than the entire Raw roster

Ditto Angle, Undertaker, Bradshaw and Booker when he's there. Angle's now gone though.

Batista's back and no doubt he'll be better than the entire Raw roster.

Benoit's now gone for awhile but he was on fire this year. If he does come back to the WWE than no doubt he'll make the show worth watching on it's on.

So yeah, Smackdown's been 5 million times better than Raw and despite its weaknesses has often been a blast.

It's up to you Spicy one, if you've fallen out of love with wrestling at this point in time theres not much decent going on to help you rekindle that spark.

The reformation of DX is a pale copy of their previous outing(s) the ECW rebirth has been imo, a complete fuck up from start to finish, you cant force a WWE crowd to watch ECW, it simply will not work.

TNA, again imo, isn't very good, Samoa Joe is the only decent thing worth watching, even the slightly overated, but decent enough Christian has done nothing there.

On the positive side the ROH/CZW feud has been a cracking slice of entertainment, with some great angles & matches too.

I'll go ahead and say I watch purely out of habit.

ECW continues to piss me off, RAW is pretty much more miss than hit anymore, and Smackdown is sorta the good show that nobody gives a damn about, but even it is hit and miss.

You are soooo hot Leena. That's an awesome pic in your avatar.

Back on topic, I haven't watched Smackdown in a little while. Like the thread says, "I miss Chris Benoit". Been watching a lot of puroresu lately though. Treated myself to Kobashi's

title win over Misawa

once again. Can you say drama?

I was watching Summerslam 2002 and got sad realizing that all but one of the champions from the PPV is still with WWE.

Undisputed Championship Rock vs Brock - the I hate the road schedule guys

Intercontinental Championship Benoit vs RVD - "suspended 30 days"

Tag Team Championship Storm/Christian vs Booker T/Goldust - Booker T soon to be the 6 time champ?!?!?!

I think most of us can just admit that we are wrestling addicts. I mean when my sports team do bad, I don't stop watching sports. I had to endure almost a decade of the Redskins being mediocre in the 90's, but I was still there every Sunday to root them on, same with the A's in the mid-nineties.

If you truly have a passion for something, and are a core fan, you are unlikely to stop watching just because it might be currently sucking. We might pride ourselves on being "smart" but we also have to face the fact that the majority of us will all be watching ProWrestling no matter how awful it gets. Something about it is in our pysche and it will never leave. We are not casual fans. Those "fans" left after the Austin/Rock era, and there is only a small dribbel of them left to cheer for Cena and the lame DX reunion.

I am not saying I am happy with the current product, and I barely support it, outside of paying my satellite bill which allows me to watch it. I choose to spend my actual greenbacks on other promotions, who aren't exactly *****, but I find them better then WWE at times, however the love for prowrestling is in my genetic makeup or something because I still can't help myself from watching it when it is on.

I love wrestling. I recently bought 38 (yes 38 I counted!) wrestling DVD's of ROH, old school Mid South, Smokey Mountain, among others to watch. It helped rekindle the love just a little bit, but I must admit the excitement just isn't there like it is for MMA. Don't get me wrong, occassionally something like Joe/Kobashi happens that just feels special, and makes me forget what i'm watching is fake...but its too rare compared to the exciting world of MMA. I'd much rather watch something like say Hughes/Trigg 2...because thats a story right out of a wrestling match that took place in real life. Trigg took advantage of a low blow and heeled it up on Hughes, almost chokes him out, only for Hughes to deadlift him up, RUN with him on the shoulder across the ring a slam him strategically in his corner. Then finish the fight up moments later with the RNC (or Gable grip maybe??? I hate to quote Rogan). Just fucking tremendous and is one match i'd recommend to all MMA newbies...

No Brock is the I hate the road schedule. Rock is the "I'm a movie star to good for the shit that is the WWE right now" guy.

Yeah the Rock deserves all the hate he can get because he left a seamingly sleazy as all hell industry for an EVEN SLEAZIER industry...Outside of the fact he would make the 90 minutes of talk and drama on Monday Nights a bit more interesting, I have no desire to see him take up ANY of the 30 minutes they allow for wrestling.

All I got to say is that WWE has been at the bottom of the downward spiral for years, yes, there has been some upside but when there is something to get excited about the "Powers That Be" shit on the title change and book it poorly to prove that they are infaluable. That being said I would rather watch HBO boxing PPVs Saturday Night cause the lightweight, bantemweight, flyweight, straw weight classes are more entertaining than the shit that was SNME on NBC. I would rather watch some poor boy from asia fight a poor mexican for the right to be known as the Best Pound 4 Pound Fighter in the World by RINGS magazine than anything at this point. FUCK THE STORY FUCK THE BUILDUP FUCK ALL THAT EXTRA SHIT....I want want my steak rare not smothered and soaking in gravy....just give me 12 nonstop rounds of the sweet science where everything is settled in the ring. Gatorade-gate? SHUT THE FUCK UP Jim Lamprey boxing is in a sad state as it is there is no need to hype the match like a wrestling promoter....thats Don King's job.

The WWE has never fully recovered when the Rock, Brock, Austin left the company. It's the company's fought for not having a backup plan and shitting on the upcomming mid-card stars to keep the elderly H boys happy.
