Guest Princess Leena Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 I've got to side with naiwf. I can easily see the Yanks' asshole fans turning on Abreu in quick order.
Brett Favre Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 He just made a warning track catch the other day. And yeah, Manny really doesn't cost the Red Sox too many games in the outfield. I'll take that guy over a platoon at right field.
Brett Favre Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 I've got to side with naiwf. I can easily see the Yanks' asshole fans turning on Abreu in quick order. You're only saying that because they turned on A-Rod. And people, before A-Rod, lately in the past few years really haven't booed players.
naiwf Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 Just let Cena experience Abreu half jogging after a ball hit to the short porch, then misplaying it into a "triple", when an adequate RF would have caught it. Anyone who has seen him playing regularly KNOWS that he is a loafer who would not hustle if it meant saving his life. You can say the same thing about Manny Ramirez. Does that mean that Manny sucks too? He half-heartedly runs out grounders. And he can be pretty lazy in the field. It's all in the eye of the beholder. People choose to see Abreu as a loafer. He's a pretty damn productive loafer... Bobby Abreu's 162 game average season: .303 23 HR 95 RBI, .411 OBP/.512 SLG Manny Ramirez' 162 game average season: .314 42 HR 136 RBI, .409 OBP/.599 SLG Abreu's fielding pct = .982 Manny's fielding pct. = .977 Abreu has 88 assists in 1307 games or 1 every 14.85 games Manny has 102 in 1433 or 1 every 14.04 games Manny's not that much worse in the field but infinitely more productive with the stick. If I'm gonna be stuck with a lazy ass, let him hit 40+ HR's a year and knock in 130+. Cliff Floyd and Bobby Abreu don't have the "right" to be lazy especially when Abreu's one of the most overpaid guys in the league relative to his production.
UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 Myers is getting Wife Smacked by the Cards...(that was awful) And I totally lost it when they played the "Benny Hill music" super loud while showing the Phillies bullpen a few minutes ago.
Brett Favre Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 Okay so Abreu isn't productive enough to be a loafer now? What the hell kind of argument is this? And Abreu is way better than Floyd, so please don't mention them in the same sentence again.
the max Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 .303 23 HR 95 RBI, .411 OBP/.512 SLG if that's the average line for a loafer, SIGN ME THE FUCK UP!
strummer Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 Billy wagner about to blow another one Or not. Can't believe he got out of that. Damn
UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 I would like to thank the worst manager in baseball for sending in one of the members of the worst bullpen in baseball to give up another home run and come closer to blowing the game.
bob_barron Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 I've got to side with naiwf. I can easily see the Yanks' asshole fans turning on Abreu in quick order. You're only saying that because they turned on A-Rod. And people, before A-Rod, lately in the past few years really haven't booed players. Jason Giambi. I remember even Jeter got booed at one time.
the pinjockey Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 I love the lazy argument. When in doubt bust out "lazy" since it can not be completely disproven. No matter who you talk to, which message board you go to it always boils down to the "yuh huh, nuh uh, yuh huh, nuh uh" and that's it. Abreu is not a good fielder. He does not get good jumps on the ball. The fact Aaron Rowand told him earlier this year to trust his judgements more seems to lend credence to that idea as opposed to just laziness. He has an arm to make up for some mistakes. What the hell happened to Ryan Madson this year?
Brett Favre Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 What I meant to say, for the reasons Abreu might get booed for. Giambi and Jeter got booed because they sucked ass at the plate. For Jeter it wasn't even full hearted boos, and Giamby was batting like below .200. Abreu should hit fine, and just get the balls he's supposed to in the outfield. I know most people will say his gold glove was undeserved, but you can't win a gold glove if you're as awful in the outfield as people are making him sound.
UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 Bring in Geoff Geary or Arthur Rhodes, that'll stop Pujols.
UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 Madson gets the first-third MVP to ground into a double play. I'd feel a sigh of relief if they didn't just show Rick White in the bullpen doing what was reported to be "warming up".
Bruiser Chong Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 Billy wagner about to blow another one Or not. Can't believe he got out of that. Damn I question Girardi leaving the bunt on Ramirez with two strikes. At that point, I say let him swing away.
therealworldschampion Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 Regarding the Abreu trade, there might be another reason that the Phils got fleeced: It was rumored that Paul Hagen from the Daily News said that he overheard during All-Star Weekend that the ownership may be in financial trouble. Apparently Bill Giles had to sell some of his shares of the team to another member of the ownership because of a cash shortage. This financial trouble would be understandable since attendance has fallen, along with the high payroll, rising interest rates, and stadium debt. Should be an interesting offseason with the freed up cash and seeing where it goes...
strummer Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 What the hell has happened to the Cardinals pitching staff?
Mik Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 Billy wagner about to blow another one Or not. Can't believe he got out of that. Damn Great game, though.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 Utley extends his hitting streak on an infield hit. EDIT: Damnit, they changed it to a fielder's choice.
Bruiser Chong Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 Ha, what a way to extend the streak. And I think Encarnacion just proved why it's not necessarily a bad thing to be perceived as a lazy fielder. With the uncertainty of whether that ball was going to be caught, I doubt Rollins scores from second if Encarnacion plays it on a bounce. Instead, the effort to make a highlight reel catch blows up in his face and possibly costs them a run, while allowing Victorino to move to third.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 I know there's likely going to be some controversy over the call. It's not an easy scorer's decision.
naiwf Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 I know most people will say his gold glove was undeserved, but you can't win a gold glove if you're as awful in the outfield as people are making him sound. 2 years prior to Abreu winning the GG, Jose Cruz Jr. won one. Let that sink in. Aside from Andruw Jones and Jim Edmonds winning them every year it doesn't really matter who gets the 3rd, it just has to be a corner outfielder. You Yankees fans will get sick of Abreu in time, so don't take my word for it until he costs you a game by not hustling for a ball in the gap or near the wall.
Open the Muggy Gate Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 Well I'll be damned. 34 and counting.
Brett Favre Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 I know most people will say his gold glove was undeserved, but you can't win a gold glove if you're as awful in the outfield as people are making him sound. I hate the Yankees..so I will say Abreu will suck. Moving on..what happened with Chase Utley's hit? I'm glad that it's a hit a though.
