Discuss what will undoubtably be the funniest movie of the summer here in this thread.

Going to see this tonight - can't wait.

I'm going to see "The Descent" first, so "Ricky Bobby" will have to wait.

I can't see this being anything but a letdown. Sure, Judd Apatow is involved but he's not directing and it seems that the usual cast of characters is absent.

I'd like to be wrong but this seems very much like one of those "You can watch the trailer and see all the funny moments" kinda movies.

I have heard from numerous sources that they are going the Anchorman route here and showing highly edited versions of what's in the trailer or not showing certain parts of the trailer at all in the actual film.

I think they realize that no one appreciates all of the best jokes being given away in the trailer.

No, that's Little Miss Sunshine.

That was one thing I hated about Anchorman.

This summer's been weak for comedies, but this one's looked like money the whole way. Some early reviews suggest it'll be much like Anchorman, which can only be a good thing. My take is if you're a fan of Ferrell, you'll dig this. I'm there tonight.

P.S. I know Ebert's not liked around here (for some reason), but he stopped a half star short of giving this four stars.

I don't think it was Ebert, it was the editor of his website.

Now that we actually have a movie theatre here, I'll be seeing this tonight, I hope.

Ever since the weekend that Pirates came out, all reviews have been written by Jim Emerson, not Ebert.

While I think some of the mainstream comedies have been weak, I loved Little Miss Sunshine and thought Scoop was pretty funny

D'oh. Good call, Bob. I just visit his site every week and saw the header for the movie with the star rating and figured he was back.

Still the sort of movie he'd probably give a good rating to, since he did that with Anchorman.

I saw a commercial last night that had a different cut of the "Help Me <X>!" scene, this time mentioning Oprah, so the multiple take thing sounds accurate. That, or that is a long scene and he names a LOT of people (or 4, anyway). I plan on going tomorrow night whether my unemployed poor friends want to or not.

Won a pair of tickets (what good a pair did me).

Saw it even though I didnt want to.

The two kids steal the first half of the movie easily laughter wise until grandma reforms them. 90% of the parts of the movie that would have been funny were seen in the trailer and promos and elicited forced laughter from the crowd. A lot of the stuff in the trailers had more to them and got a few laughs. Girrard showing up at the bar for the first time, Ricky doing some funny ad spots, the cougar in the car scene and Ricky coming back and finding Cal had stolen his wife were the funniest completely unspoiled scenes off the top of my head. The ending is rediculously stupid but it does at least make up for itself somewhat by having a point and them acknowledging the stupidity of it.

Bonus points I suppose for Andy Richter as a gay french guy (Girrard's husband). Molly Shannon's character seemed tacked on with no purpose other than to keep seeing her get progressively drunker. Thumbs up for Amy Adams..

And I know that NASCAR and Commercialism are hand in hand, but the movie felt like an hour and 45 minutes of commercials. I dont think the movie goes more than 3 minutes at a time without some ad plastered somewhere and some scenes have way too many. And to top it off, there was a god damned Applebees commercial in the middle of the wreck at the end (as a joke on NASCAR TV Coverage pretty much acknowledged by the NBC Commentators), but still an actual Applebees commercial in a movie.

My wife surprised me with tickets to the movie when I got home from work today. I'm a huge Ferrell fan so I can't wait. I'll stop back in with my impressions later on.

I suppose I should note Im not the biggest Will Farrell fan.

The trailer for his next movie Stranger than Fiction was attatched and it looked in retrospect funnier than this or Anchorman for that matter.

They also attatched trailers for the Tenacious D movie and Beerfest or whatever its called..

I'm going Saturday. Hopefully the Molly Shannon involvement is kept to a minimum

I hope Amy Adams has a sizeable role, she's hilarious

see my spoilers for info about Molly Shannon..but..on Amy Adams..

she goes on a hell of a rant to convince Ricky to drive again and they actually start making on on a table in a bar. Another funny scene (for her rant) that I sorta overlooked. She's a background character up until that point though..

And for what its worth, I think she's hotter than the supposed hot girl in the movie Leslie Bibb (Ricky's wife), but its the hair/glasses that does it for me...

Guest Felonies!

I've never found Will Ferrell to be funny. Why do I feel that every year we're gonna have a new "Will Ferrell as a ________" movie.

They had "Beerfest" attached to Clerks 2 when I went to go see it. Looks like Broken Lizard fortunately went back to the "Super Troopers" style of slapsticky stupid humor rather than their recent mistakes (Club Dread, the release of Puddle Cruiser, etc.). I'm looking forward to it.

"Will Ferrel was a news anchor. Then he was a NASCAR driver. Now, Will Ferrell is... a carrot!"

Even if he might've been funny in the past, all this movie looks to be is him running around, doing pratfalls and yelling a lot, like some minute version of Chris Farley

He plays a figure skater in the upcoming Blades of Glory, which sounds hilarious.
