Masked Man of Mystery 0 Report post Posted August 7, 2006 This is not a question of your favorite style. If one had a body that could do any of the differant wrestling styles, or could with some work, using the recent past(say '90 onward) what is the most effective wrestling style? Don't take WWE biases into account or such. As far as I know, the major styles are: technical, power, cruiserweight/lucha, Japanese strong style, brawling(one could make an argument that strong style and brawling are very similar in many regards, but I'll leave that to folks who've seen more puro), MMA/shoot style, and all around. Every style has their own advantages and disadvantages, but I personally think that a style like Sting's would probably be the most effective, he was very good all around in his prime, able to fly a bit, power wrestle, brawl, and he could do technical work, of course. I'm interested to see what other folks think.

Bruce Blank 0 Report post Posted August 7, 2006 hmm I guess it depends on how you define best (most entertainining etc.) I'd have to say overall the AJPW style have all other styles licked - I mean where else can you get dropped on your head continually and beaten up for like 30 minutes only to no sell it all and win with a Lariat? No one can complete with that
FroGG_NeaL 0 Report post Posted August 7, 2006 This is a tough question, man. If Chris Benoit could get the reactions Hogan does, he'd be the perfect wrestler. Dude can do it all in that ring. If he ever found his niche on the mic, he would've gotten over way more, and mic presense is an important part of any wrestler's style. Unless you're Sabu. Then it don't matter, cause you're Sa-Fuckin'-Bu.
Masked Man of Mystery 0 Report post Posted August 7, 2006 I understand what you're saying, but I'm thinking more in terms of how effectove you'll be in the ring, counters and such. Benoit is darn hard to stop in the ring, if he had the aggresiveness he had just before he went on sabbatical for more of his career, I think he might've caught on better as this crazed man who does anything he can within the rules to win
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted August 7, 2006 In kayfabe terms, I'd say an all around technician like Dean Malenko would be most effective. Can take people down, use submissions, and probably go for hours to wear down an opponent, if need be.
Maztinho 0 Report post Posted August 7, 2006 Sting or Benoit's styles are nearly perfect. Benoit maybe even more so. The technical aspect combined with some aerial, and competance in a brawling enviroment is what I like in wrestlers.
The Buzz 0 Report post Posted August 8, 2006 A big man like Vader or Undertaker pick up more wins than most with their mix of brawling, and uncanny agility(speaking of both men's prime) A mix of brawling, technical work, speed, and aerial manuevars worked well for Sting, Benoit, Guerrero, Savage, and others. I think one of those two has worked the best for wrestlers over the years. All-rounders, big men with agility.

Understood, but there's one problem with a really big guy: work over the legs and they're screwed.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted August 8, 2006 See, that's why I think a technician type would be the best overall. I mean, yeah, the Undertaker's big and can brawl, but do you really think in a true match he could beat someone like Kurt Angle?
Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted August 8, 2006 if it's in kayfabe, then the best style is clearly Umaga's, because he's never lost
razazteca 0 Report post Posted August 8, 2006 After watching 2 hours of boring armdrags, headlocks, chinlocks, and a comedy match nothing can get the audience to pop more than the brawling hardcore main event. Cactus Jack is the god of the fat alcholic momma boys that never leave the house.
Guest Bammey Report post Posted August 9, 2006 Triple H's style. Big, power guy who can knocks fists with anyone. Wear you down with smart leg work. Can reverse any aerial attack with a spinebuster. Just very good at hitting the hot shot move, and wearing you down for the win.
The Buzz 0 Report post Posted August 9, 2006 Also in a kayfabe point of view, Ric Flair's style of dragging a match to the time limit worked very well.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted August 9, 2006 Hulk Hogan, because he can Hulk up at any moment.
Mystery Eskimo 0 Report post Posted August 9, 2006 Well, he can Hulk up after his opponent hits him in the face several times and he points his finger. If his opponent never punched him, or worked over the finger, he'd be screwed.

If his opponent never punched him, or worked over the finger, he'd be screwed. That reminds me, someone in the OAOAST wrestled Batista, and when he went to do the thumbs down pose, he grabbed his thumbs and stopped him or something. I'd also like to see what happened if Hogan hulked up and someone did something random like hit him with a Shining Wizard. It'd be impossible to no sell that
FroGG_NeaL 0 Report post Posted August 9, 2006 Hulk Hogan could no-sell death, probably.

Rendclaw 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2006 I loved Taz's style. Good technician and could brawl, and just awesome with his submissions. Not to mention he wasn't bad on the mic.
Coffin Surfer 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2006 Big John Studd stopped the Hulk Up by booting him out of the ring. Misawa would probably be unstoppable as he's a master high flyer, the best striker capable of knocking out larger men like Hansen with his elbow smashes, has the deadliest moves that can put away anybody, can take incredible punishment, and a smart survior who can win when he's hurt or injured. Guest Human Highlight Reel Report post Posted August 14, 2006 I'd also like to see what happened if Hogan hulked up and someone did something random like hit him with a Shining Wizard. It'd be impossible to no sell that I have a memory of Chris Jericho stopping Hogan from Hulking up by kicking him between the legs. Did this actually happen? Or did I just imagine it because it would be awesome? The best overall wrestling style is a moveset consisting entirely of the Pedigree.
