EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2006 This week we've got a big Cincinnati vs. St. Louis series in the NL Central from Tuesday-Thursday. The AL West is going up against one another as well. The weekend will inevitably be dominated by the Yankee/Red Sox series. It's amazing how uninspiring a week in mid-August can be when you're 56-60 and facing a team a full 15 games up in the standings. Honestly, I haven't been paying much attention. The AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons have a two game lead on the division and seven on the playoffs with just 23 games left in the season. Beats the hell out of the Phillies and their 13 man pitching circus.
Longdogger_Pete 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2006 It's also noteworthy that before facing the Yankees for five games this week, the Red Sox will first have to contend with Detroit at Fenway for three. Tomorrow it's Beckett vs. Robertson, Tuesday is Schilling vs. Bonderman, and Wednesday is the one I worry about - Wells vs. Verlander.
Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2006 Potential Starters for Yankees/Sox Friday: Wang v. Lester, Ponson v. Jason Johnson (?) Saturday: Johnson v. Beckett Sunday: Moose v. Schilling Marquee matchups on Sat/Sunday. Wang pitches pretty well against the Sox, but Lester's first look at us could go either way, who knows. Personally, I'm really looking forward to the flip side of the double header battle of Orioles rejects. That's looking like a 12-11 game.

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2006 I'm going to Cooperstown this week. Is this your first time? Cooperstown is truly a terrific place to visit. The Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is outstanding. I'm going to the SWB/Syracuse games on Monday/Tuesday. Gustavo Chacin and Casey Janssen are scheduled to pitch for Syracuse. treble 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2006 I thought Chacin was pitching in Dunedin since the Jays are down in Tampa.
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2006 I've been there twice before, in 1996 and in 1997. I have my picture with John Wetteland's jersey from Game 6 of the World Series and the '96 World Series trophy itself.
Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2006 I go to Cooperstown every couple of years, used to go every year when I was a kid. It's nice to be within driving distance of both the baseball and basketball hall of fames And Cooperstown is such a quaint little country town. GREAT location for the baseball HOF, right near a beautiful lake, surprisingly uncommerical, it's just not what I think you'd expect. Springfield, Ma on the other hand..... TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2006 It is a great little town, can't wait to go since I haven't been there since I'm about 11. Even though I don't think any of the Yanks' trophies will be there this time around. Ever been to the wax museum up there? It's really cool as well.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2006 I've been there twice. First in 1991, and than again in 2001. I don't have the luxury of living within driving distance.

Wang doesn't do good at Fenway. 6.62 ERA and he is 0-2 in 3 starts in his career at Fenway. He's 1-2 career vs. Boston with a 4.91. He has problems getting the ball over the plate against them for some reason.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2006 Paging through the press notes, I see Pat Burrell is 0 for 17 career against Pedro Martinez. That's not a lot of at bats, but damn.

TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2006 I'm not in driving distance either, it'll probably be a 5 or 6 hour drive. On a semi-simlar topic, how many games has everyone been to this year so far? I've been to three (Yankees obviously) May 27, a 15-4 win over KC, June 27, a 5-2 loss to Atlanta, and July 30, a 4-2 win over Tampa, which, somewhere around the 6th or 7th inning, they aquired Bobby Abreu. Lots of people in my section were buzzing about it.

About 30 SWB Red Barons games, one game at Reading (Reading vs. Bowie), one at Binghamton (BMets vs. RPhillies), and one at Williamsport (Crosscutters vs. Muckdogs). I was debating on going to Lakewood yesterday but decided not to. I missed a no-hitter.

mike546 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2006 Only been to one. Yankees home opener when Jeter hit the game winning 3 run homer in the 8th. I'm heading to Boston on Friday and I'm going to atleast 2 of the Yanks/Sox games. edit: Also went to a Double A Trenton Thunder vs Portland Seadog game. I left early but I heard it ended up being the longest game in the history of the Seadogs I think.
Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2006 I haven't been to a game yet this year (well, one minor league game, but that doesn't count) One of my friends HAD tickets to Yankees/Mets and I was going to go with him but the FUCKING ASSHOLE SOLD THEM! Can't really blame him though, he got like five-six times the face value for them I'll definitely go to Yankee stadium by the end of season though. Need to see Abreu in person. the max 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2006 All minor league games for us. Fort Myers Miracle about 10 times. In the community calendar they have coupons for "Buy 1 ticket, Get 1 ticket FREE!" I love minor league baseball. I'm still waiting to catch a ball though. Considering there are only 95 people at the games, I'm surprised I haven't gotten one yet. We were going to go to the Red Sox v. Marlins game on my birfday, but we went to Busch Gardens instead. Considering Tampa to Miami is about a five hour drive...no thanks. We had plans to go to a Marlins or D-Rays game, but with the situation at the apartment complex...I don't think that'll be happening.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2006 Mets/Nats May 1st. I called the Lo Duca walk off, I just didn't know it would be by a Nats miscue. I haven't had the time to go to any other games.
Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2006 Been to a couple of Mariners games so far this year (v. Royals, v. Sox) and will probably hit up a couple more before the year's out. vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2006 I've been to somewhere in the neighborhood of 45-50 Astros' games this year. That makes me a superfan. I'd like to go to the game tonite. Oswalt v. Zambrano. Zambrano always kills the Astros.
sfaJack 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2006 I wanted to go to Zambrano/Oswalt tonight but with work being a tremendous pain in the ass this month, I'm a little short of time. Boo for that.
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2006 I was just looking through my stack of Astros' season tickets that I have, and I notice that I do, in fact, have a ticket for the game tonite. Score~!

Granted I'm usually in a relatively difficult place for a ball to land. Beyond AAA the stands are set up in a way where not many baseballs land. It takes a fair bit of luck. Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2006 Joe Sheehan has a strange article up at BP.com about this year's MVP race. What about it is strange, you ask? He doesn't even have David Ortiz in his top 5, nor does he even think of him as much of a candidate other than having added a few extra wins with his clutch hits. His top 5: 1. Jeter 2. Mauer 3. Santana 4. Sizemore 5. Ramirez
