Someone please explain to me how it is (kayfabe-wise) that Vince gets mad enough at Foley, just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, to FIRE HIM, yet it seems totally beyond him to even comprehend firing DX, even though they do stupid shit to Vince CONSTANTLY.

 

Seriously, if anyone can justify that, kayfabe-wise, I'd love to hear it.

 

And don't mention that he didn't fire Austin, because he *did* fire Austin at one point, and it was acknowledged that Austin was such a draw Vince woulda lost out by firing him.

 

And WHAT THE SHIT is up with Edge's belt? That's somehow more hideous then Cena's. "Cena, your belt is such a piece of crap, I'm gonna throw it away, and then get myself one THAT LOOKS ALMOST EXACTLY THE FUCKING SAME, BECAUSE I'M A FUCKING TIT."

 

Like, JESUS. I only watched the first half of RAW, because I couldn't take any more.

This week's Raw was actually ok. Edge's new belt is too similar to Cena's for my liking. Jeff's return was nice, and the match with Edge was ok(except for the crap finish). I actually liked the Foley/Melina angle, and it didn't run for too long. Now that Foley's gonna be out for a while, I'm gonna miss him on the microphone.

 

By Raw standards, this show was ok. Smackdown is still far better.

My thoughts on Foley/Melina

 

Having not seen the PPV, it none the less goes something like this:

 

1) Nitro and Melina are not uber heels like I dunno McMahon. Or more aptly, they are NOT Edge and Lita. Yes, they may cheat to win, but so does Carlito.

 

2) Foley and Flair match apparently contained something of a double turn in that Flair was turned from the spectactular Nature Boy into something of a raving madman, willing to beat the shit out of an innocent bystander just to get his old enemy to give up. At the same time, both Foley and Melina were humanized by having a platonic FRIENDSHIP that was real and decent. Obviously Melina was with Nitro, but that never mattered to Foley because he wasn't trying to FUCK Melina. Everyone who is posting here about that is fucking stupid. Foley is married and has a hot wife. Melina is with Nitro who looks better than Foley. There is no sex tension here, there is only loving friendship. Almost, likely, a mentor relationship. It COULD have built to something of a second dimension to Melina.

 

3) Flair's promo on Vince on Raw was not only fantastic, but led to Melina's promo which wasn't bad (see: the second dimension I mentioned earlier) You believed Foley would rather walk out of the company than disgrace himself in front of his fans and his friend.

 

4) The ass kissing. Foley made, quickly, the decision that his dignity was worth nothing without his friends, and decided that kissing another man's right ass check was less onorous than causing a friend's termination, even indirectly. So, he yells at Vince to drop trou, and gets it over with. This leads to:

 

5) The turn. I'm sure they will come up with some sort of promo to make this "make sense" but it just won't. There is no no no reason for that low-blow. It makes sense if you assume that the bookers are full of shit and especially if you see Vince hanging out with Melina in the future, after all, we know that Vince has to make out with every single female on the roster. But as a "heel turn" it was out of no where and unexplainable. A heel turn (and a face turn) has always been effective when it MAKES SENSE. This one was senseless. It was just done to get Melina and Nitro over as heels, when it would be a thousand times more effective to slowly use their relationship to CAUSE the low blow, or something like that. Leave them as tweeners for a while or something like that.

 

It was effective to see Melina run out during Nitro's entrance, him looking miffed that she wasn't there but dealing with it, her running out and quickly "putting on the act". It showed that Nitro may be irritated with Melina hanging out with his girlfriend because she's away, he's not JEALOUS because he was all smiles when she came back. THAT could have led to a heel turn when TENSION was created between the two, and Melina inevitably choses the young hot boyfriend over the fat but considerate friend. Especially if NITRO heeled it up more than Melina. My god, how many times have we seen THAT happen? It would work.

 

This didn't work. This is what infuriates me on Raw. A story is crafted, becomes possibly great, and is shot down when someone else takes control of the story.

 

If Foley was leaving, they should not have done the turn anyways. He should have left after his match with Flair.

Suppossedly DX is done in the fall, or that's when Stephanie wants it to last untill.

 

Since it's already August, and DX is done in the fall, which will only be a month or two way, I'd say until WrestleMania.

I'm pretty sure DX/McMahons will last up to Survivor Series, where we'll probably get a Montreal re-enactment of some sort.

 

I thought they might end it after DX's decisive beating of the McMahons at Summer Slam, but then I thought about how there was no logical program for DX afterwards. Then I remembered how Shawn killed Vince at Wrestlemania, only to have the feud pick up the next night. The reasons this feud continues are as weak and uninspired as the angle itself.

 

Before the "I Quit" match, Melina told Foley that he shouldn't do the match b/c he might lose and she doesn't associate herself with losers. I'm sure this is the way they're going to take this.

 

But I'm sure they won't bother to explain why she's just trading one loser for another. The McMahons lost at SS too, and have been embarrassed for the vast majority of the DX feud. Kayfabe wise, I'm not sure how they can pull off that logic. I guess they could just blatantly insult everyone's intelligence and have Melina call Vince a "winner," which wouldn't surprise me in the least.
