iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2006 Speaking of that wacky NL Wild Card race, here are the teams that are closer to the NL Wild Card than Boston is to the AL Wild Card right now: Cincinnatti, San Diego, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Florida, Arizona, Houston, Milwaukee, Atlanta That's right the AAA Marlins, the Brewers, and the Braves who are having their worst season in 15 years by about 20 games are all closer to a playoff spot than the Red Sox. And Colorado's just as close as Boston at 5.5 back. Seriously, that race is ridiculously wide-open (and void of good teams) right now.

CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2006 You'll be interested in this, Al...the sale of the Ottawa Lynx to Joseph Finley and Craig Stein was approved by the International League board of governors today. The team will become a AAA affiliate for the Phillies, and will be moved to Allentown after the 2007 season. Sucks for us, but I don't think anyone had any illusions of the team being viable in Ottawa anymore.
Guest Felonies! Report post Posted August 28, 2006 What would make the most sense w/r/t affiliate shuffling is that S/W-B goes to the Mets, and Norfolk goes to the Orioles, but who knows
Guest NYankees Report post Posted August 29, 2006 Carla Pavano has two cracked ribs due to him getting into a car accident two weeks ago and failing to tell the team. I wish the Yankees would cut his ass or find a way to void the contract.
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2006 The Astros are officially deep in the hunt for the NL Central title and the Wildcard. They've called up Eric "Play Bruntlett to Win" Bruntlett and my favorite backup catcher for the Astros over the last 5 years not named Raul Chavez-Humberto Quintero. Happy days are here again. Dave Campbell still believes. I believe. The Astros have 7 games left against the struggling Cards and a 3-game home series with the Reds. I'm making the bold prediction that the Astros will win the NL Central and the Wildcard winner will be either the Padres or the Phillies and the WC winner will finish the season with more wins than the NL Central winner. Mik 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2006 Marlins completed a 4 game sweep of the Brewers to move within two games of .500. Josh Johnson is now 12-6 with a major league low 2.87 ERA. I'm guessing he'll get a few 2nd and 3rd place Cy Young votes... maybe better if no clear candidate emerges.

Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2006 Anybody see the Redsox lineup tonight? Not pretty. Why would you even consider giving Ortiz a day off right now? Especially with Manny out, and it's not like DHing is that taxing on a player. They're putting up a heart of the order of Loretta-Youklis-Hinske. Oh, and they're starting some guy I've never heard of before. I think the Sox are throwing in the towel already. We all know Manny has quit on his team, and Francona's comments in the media haven't exactly been inspirational.

Mik 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2006 Hopefully not tonight. I would love the Marlins to be two games out. That would be just about as close as their "star studded team" got last year.

KingPK 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2006 Anybody see the Redsox lineup tonight? Not pretty. And its produced exactly zero runs. Why people are still hanging on to the hope that they'll go on this magical run and make the postseason escapes me. They'd get slapped around like last year, anyway. And yeah, Ortiz caught the same bug that Kyle Snyder pitched with yesterday (Snyder was ordered to stay at the hotel today because of it).

vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2006 I was checking out my Fantasy baseball lineup for today, and I see they have a thing on Ortiz's page saying that he's going to be out "infdefinently" until he gets a clean bill of health. I feel bad for him. If you don't like David Ortiz, something's wrong with you...and with Liriano out of lineup, if Ortiz isn't in there, I'm screwed even worse than I am now. If Jeter or Bernie had an irregular heartbeat, I'm show you'd be writing get well soon cards about them. I don't care who the player is whether it's a Red Sox, Yankee, Tiger, Devil Ray or Pirate. I hope it doesn't end up being career ending or life threatening.

the max 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2006 Of course now, any player with any injury is going to be suspected of steroid use. Nevermind that Ortiz owes his success to having a good hitting coach (after the Twins told him to hit to the opposite field more and less for power). It must be steroids. Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2006 Irregular heartbeats are bullshit. Hell, I had an irregular heartbeat this morning! I'm here, I'm posting... Seriously though, when someone Ortiz's age comes up with an irregular heartbeat, nine times out of ten they did it to themselves. Or the Yankees did it to them. Just sayin
